Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I know it's dumb that these so-called "experts" keep mistaking our players for some other hacks (cf. Jackson Trengrove, Alwyn Davey, Robert Warnock & Danny Frawley), but how bloody good is it to finally have some positive press about the MFC and our gamestyle?! Sitting in the stands every week and watching the run and carry and the amazing footspeed is so exciting! Watching the replay then just confirms in my mind that the skill level has increased considerably from last year. Just imagine how good we are going to be once we can eliminate some of the errant handpassing and flat kicking!

The Foxtel commentary crew from Saturday night were absolutely gushing in their praise for our gameplan and the brand of footy that we exhibited.

Tho it is nice to get good press, this article is a crock of dust. We played the corridor because Brisbane let us play the corridor. Yes, we wanted to play the corridor, but Brisbane refused to play accountable football through the corridor. Based on one week, we are the next Geelong? Basically, the truth us we have stockpiled enormous talent, and we are at the stage where that talent will start to show. No-one knows where confidence and momentum can take us, but when we get belted, which will happen, will we still be compared with Geelong?

It sounds like you would be happier barracking for Richmond.

Bad article. Melbourne hasn't got a big key forward and is playing well, therefore we are Geelong. For every player comparison he provides, there's one that is more obvious. The playing personnel are very different. The only similarity between the teams is the way that both are/have a gameplan that is pretty basic...RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN...and when the ball is in the other teams hands, TACKLE HIT PUSH HASSLE RUN. We're doing well, but watch North next week sit somebody in the middle of the centre square all day. We're going to have to run through them, and shepherd hard and spread their zone with run and aggression, and by providing leading targets so we can kick over the roadblock.

Our forward line will be MUCH better than Geelong. And while Frawley and Warnock look a bit like Scarlett and Harley nearing their peaks, they both look better than Harry Taylor.

When we've tightened up on the defensive side of our gameplan (not just tackling and spoiling on the last line) they won't be recognising us as copies of Geelong, they'll know that THE FIRE HAS STARTED!

After the Brisbane game there was an article in the Herald Sun that referred to Melbourne's Danny Frawley. Pathetic.

And Aaron Davies. Double pathetic!

I am not surprised Journos get our players names wrong. Lets be honest, no journo has watched a Melbourne game without trying to publicly lynch them for a number of years. The Dees have been the medias whipping boy time and time again. All of a sudden some nice play has developed and they are forced to write something about a club they know absolutely nothing about.

Are we copycats? I can tell you one thing, the most recent Cats premiership squads did not invent this corridor style play. The 3-peat lions used similar tactics before their reign came to an end.

There are similarities between their play no doubt, but the dees could change that by developing a dominant forwardline- something the cats did not have during their flag years. Midfielders kicking foals won the cats flags, but if the dees could have midfielders and forwards dominating, maybe we too can start to think premierships down the track.

I sent a comment into the journo who wrote it, pointing out all the errors and told them to ensure proof reading, before publishing. I've now been blocked on the Herald Sun website. Lucky, I suppose.

In Round 2 these demons started playing differently - they ran and ran, tackled ferociously, weren't afraid of contests, took possession, wheeled and turned, and kicked to hit up in the corridor. They correctly used handball to release players. Their confidence and kicking efficiency improved with obvious results. Rounds 3,4 and 5 have been the same. They are not copying another team because that won't win a premiership, but all of us can always learn from others. These demons will bring their own positive style to the game, especially as more players earn the right to selection. Continued success will come as everyone adapts to best use whatever talent is available at a given time. The atmosphere is exhilarating - enjoy the ride!

Just trying to draw a number of threads together and focus on the team and the game Titan.

Suggest a few people should read The Red Fox very carefully.

I'm also not chasing a record number of one line posts!

Fair enough. It just seems that this thread is on the same topic as a lot of others.

Most modern game plans have similarities, but they also have considerable variations from team to team, of course. Those who study game plans would find significant changes in the demon plan after R1. Knowledgeable people (I'm not claiming to be one!) could not even identify a demon game plan last year. Personally, I would suggest that the kick and hit up the corridor is one significant change - other people may see it as an evolution. For the record, I'm disappointed this thread was merged (especially as I lost my response in the middle of typing it!)

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
