I am a big anti-Newton follower, however...

Reality is, he has some ability in the VFL, but can't transfer that in to the next level. Why? or, why not???

My thoughts - he's on our list, we have to deal with that. Another thing we have to deal with is that we WILL NOT make finals this year. My challenge to Bailey and Newton - you've got the next 6 weeks to prove yourself. If you can't perform, pi$$ off, we don't want you or need you to be part of this team. Watts will be fully fit by then, and sadly for Juice, it's your spot that Jack will fill.

I don't rate Juice, but think that in this re-build, we owe it to him to give me a chance to prove himself. Playing 1 game, then getting dropped, then recalled, then dropped, he probably does deserve better than that, but not too much!

Forward line looks more balanced with Newton in it, rather than Miller.

Give him another 3 weeks at least. Absolute waste of promotion if he plays 1 or 2 weeks then back to Casey for 4! He contested a bit today, but still needs dramatic improvement to play for us next year!

Wake up people - Newton contributed today!!! That's what its all about!

Martin and Spencer have to earn the right to get past him now.

Juice attacked the ball, chased, forced the ball to ground - he did everything we needed, and he kicked a goal.

I don't want him around for ever, but I can't see what good dropping him for Spencer or Martin is unless those 2 deserved it.

There's a reason Mick Malthouse plays Leigh Brown (although I often struggle to see it). Today Juice was Leigh Brown like, and I mean that in a positive way.

For me, Newton was pretty bad today. He didn't score much, and was responsible for a couple of turnovers i50 (one in the first quarter and one in the second) and wasn't nearly creative enough to compensate. I'd drop him for Martin/Sylvia next week.

I reckon Juice also showed more mongrel than Miller has for some time. Juice takes the odd angry pill I reckon. I can`t believe I`m saying it but I`d rather him than Miller right now!(Not saying much I know!)

I said Tuesday drop Miller for Newton and give him 5 games,i stand by that call.Newton is a better reader of the incoming ball and a better kick. How much game time was he given? He's not going to come in and be a match winner first game.I don't want Miller in again,he's given us 9 years of nothing.

Juice had as good a game this week as Dunn did last week and they kept him in the side. I think he leads under the ball and when it comes to him he relies on the big leap and grab. If he could learn to lead out and take the ball in front of him he might be OK. I don't think he should be dropped after today, the players didn't look for him and he didn't lead where he should. Of course Ricky and Brad were running hot so they took all the limelight. Maybe if he gets another chance and a bit of confidence he might be an alternative tall to take one of the big defenders.

Happy with his contribution today, had limited game time and he made the contest a few times that led to goal chances. He offers us somthing different to what Miller, Dunn and Bate offer and he is competing with Spencer and Martin for a position in the team and I am happy to give him an opportunity ahead of those two.

Juice is such an enigma. Showed a bit early. Crashed a few packs. Lovely lead mark and goal. And then.... Nothing. Can't quite work him out

I had to laugh today when the Ox on SEN commenting when Newton was kicking for gaol said that there wasnt much wrong with Newton apart from dragging his kick to the right and oh also his work ethic..... please

Low confidence IMO, just needs to stop worrying about becoming an AFL footballer, & just go out & play, giving it his total focus on the things the team want from him. FOCUS Michael.

I agree with the earlier comment. Our forward line looks better with Newton in it. He may not justify the spot on his form, but for some reason the shape changes when he's there and the other players all work better. It must be some difference in the way he goes about it compared to Miller. Perhaps it's that he's less inclined to go running off up the field? Whatever, I would prefer to see him stay in, firstly because he makes the rest of the forwards more effective, and secondly because he might just have a couple of good games and get us over the line.

When it comes to physicality, he's no better than Bennell. That's as bad as it gets for a bloke his size. Infuriatingly soft. Must be praying GC or GWS give him a chance.

Agree.

Re his ruckwork, he was up against Flopsy Fraser. And neither made an impression. Is there a more softpuss big man than Fraser? For a former No 1 draft pick, he is underwhelming to say the least.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
