Morton's knee injury

This just from the MFC website. Apologise if it has been posted already.

Following scans today, the Melbourne Football Club confirms that Cale Morton has torn his posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee following a collision in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s NAB Challenge match against Essendon.

A final decision on the rehabilitation and the length of time Cale will miss will be made on Monday following further examinations of the knee and consultation between Cale and the medial team.

Let just pray (if your into that kinda stuff) that its not too bad, and he can return soon. Cale plays a major role in the redevelopment of the MFC. The less time he is out of the game, the faster we can start winning games again.

Why was my post removed? It was am instant classic!

On the off chance it doesn't get placed back up, my thoughts are:

1. Shattered about Morton

2. Shattered about Morton

3. Gary Lyon has a man crush on Morton

3. 2010 is beginning to suck for us!

What time out could we expect for this kind of injury

I really don't like injuries to one of our better young players

The PCL is stronger and thicker than the ACL and is less prone to injury. Usually it is direct contact to the shin when the knee is bent that does the damage, such as in a tackle of front on collision. Rest, ice, compression and elevation are the most common treatments, but surgery is an option.

Surgery has a six month recovery time so best hope that ain't it and RICE and 2-12 weeks is the go.

Ugh, knee injuries are a piece of crap (says the angry one still waiting for her knee to heal! :P). I really feel for Morton, although a PCL is a relatively mild injury.

Morton has been extremely lucky with injuries thus far, which is why he has already notched up 40 games. This isn't a major setback in the big scheme of things, but annoying nevertheless. We certainly don't need anymore bad luck.

On the plus side, he can eat something while he's lying in bed recovering ;)

No good at all hope he has a quick recovery we need him out there to build on his experience. I hope the only positive is a young player steps up

The only benefit of him missing a qtr of the season (as a guess) would be him being able to try and add some upper body size.

Agree.Bad News for Morton and MFC however as you rightly point out I'm sure he will use the time off to his benefit and build up his body strength.

ffs

Seriously, we can f**k off any hope of a top 10 finish this year already thanks to a dozen or so players just injured or still in rehab..

Any news on the other half of our midfield Moloney and Slyvia and their problems? Both were strapped up by the end of the game.

Sacre Blue!

Melbourne must have the record for the most number of injuries without even playing a regular game. Let's see ... they have now had SIX months since last season finished. We have injuries of one type or another to: Watts, Bate, Morton, Johnson, Green, Garland, Moloney, Meesen, Bruce, Wonaeamirri, Davey, Spencer, Blease.

At least our top 16 finish will be safe.

It's certainly a setback, but I don't see it as being season-derailing for the club - hopefully not even for Cale.

Hah!

There probably wasnt a 'final 8 berth' on the cards to de-rail, but as Prof points out

12 of the 13 players listed (meesen the exception) are starting 22 for us (probably throw Tappy in there as well, thats 14.. EDIT: throw in Jamar, Strauss and Maric who just got back and arent up to speed yet) and again before the season starts, as has happened so often in the recent past - we have an important group nowhere near 'ready to go' for the season proper.

..and so we begin another few months (til mid year?) of the patience BS before we can see any real positives and hope, if we've managed to get the players out there and up to speed by then.. could be longer

History never repeats - my asss! Whos the mug that came up with that??

Ok... we have an appraisal like that...

Yet we have people ready to tear up their memberships because the team has put in a couple of sub-par performances!

Surely there is some middle ground?

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
