Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Stan Alves to North Melbourne

Greg Wells to Carlton (as a kid, I was crushed because he was one of my heroes but happy he got the chance to win a premiership)

Laurie Fowler - sheer insanity to let him go

Gary Baker to Sydney (I know that injury had done him in but he was another hero)

Healy to Sydney

The Demon Flag that always Hung from the Top floor of an old mansion on canturberry Road Middle Park was left at Half Mast for about a month after that....

I lived about 100m up the road from that place at the time and used to go past it to work every day... Was a sad sight seeing it at half mast for so long.

Does the Dees flag still get out on that place? The manequin was always interesting.

This is no departure, however speaking of "flags", for those of you familiar with the Princess Fwy between Melbourne <> Geelong...

Near the turn off to Little River, the two Service stations that sit opposite one another (BP Service Stations I believe) have both the Melbournefc and Geelong Football Club flags flying - although the Mfc flags do look a little frail and dreary.

These most likely signifying the city's Melbourne & Geelong, as the "road house" seems halfway between the two cities.

I have frequented that section of road (esp. holiday times) and quietly thought to myself that both teams have finished 1st and 16th the last two years; albeit with a slight cringe. - Thinking other motorists/opposition supporters thoughts on the flags.

I look forward to the day when the tables are turned.

Quietly though, I am a little chuffed that those at the service station have shown good initiative to fly those flags. Somewhat pleased that other opposing teams aren't recognised like Melbourne & Geelong are, being cities and all.

Thought I'd share that piece of nothing "thought" with you all..

I haven't seen it for years, i know the family were really upset when the Wiz departed (kids especially) but otherwise not sure.

Maybe the family has moved?

The hook on the wall is still there for the flag last time i looked.

Will keep my eyes on it this year to see what happens....We need that Flag-it was huge!!!!

What was the manequin? i remember something there but i have always gone past in a car so i can't quite recall what else was there other than the flag

I used to enjoy wandering by be it on the tram, on the pushie, car or walking by and seeing the flag.

They used to have a female manequin on the balcony as well, always dressed to impress!

My Dad lives just around the corner so i would give that Flag a fist pump on the way to the MCG often.

I think they were large large Joe supporters & when all that went Belly up along with the Wiz departing

They were not happy.

We must Resurrect that flag-It hung way out over the footpath-Brilliant

Woewodin :( Still not over it :(

RDB was definitely the major setback which we have probably never recovered from, but in rtecent times I thought the treatment of Woey (who was a real heart-on-the-sleave player with us) was appalling - whatever the spin, it was seriously damaging to the whole fabric of the club.

Farmer & Thompson were great losses also, but the "go-home" factor was in play there - RDB & Woey were just dumb mistakes.

Darren Jolly's departure hurt. Good ruckmen are hard to come by but when the changes to the centre circle rule diminished Jeff White's ruck power we were left with a bit of a hole in that department and the problem remains to this very day!

That really needs its own thread. I too see those flags. Ours looks torn, discoloured, shabby, and needs replacing.

I drive past that place all the time and it is only hung out after Melbourne win, Thats probably why you don't see it that much anymore.

Ron Barassi, absolutely.

I was too young to know anything, never been to a game... yet I loved MFC and this broke my young heart like only a young heart can be broken. I think the feeling was something akin to treachery (Ronald Dale, having grown up and discovered a few things about how the world works, all is long forgiven).

Also I wasn't totally naive, because I remember too thinking... not Carrrrlton!

I too feel warm inside, seeing the MFC flags flying on those roadhouses. Especially as I'm either heading towards or departing enemy territory.

Great initiative & credit to the servo owners. Coming back just after Christmas a few weeks back, it was incredibly hot and we stopped for refreshments. Nice to report, the stop is worthwhile. Shade, good food & plenty of choice, cold drinks and some fruit vendor selling cheap outside.

Support these businesses, because of their support for MFC!

Does anyone think that Melbourne has a problem keeping or attracting some of these players? I still dont quite understand why McClean left, after he seemed so passionate about the club. Perhaps our improved facilities might help us a fair bit?

McLean left because Demon fans couldn't spell his name.

Let's hope it doesn't happen to Jack TrengRove :)

When Barassi left I was 12. I'd just seen the Demons win the '64 Premiership and I simply couldn't believe it (I still can't!) To me, RDB was Melbourne - my worldview lost its innocence overnight. In more recent times the losses that have caused me the most pain were (in order):

1. Scott Thompson

2. Jeff Farmer

3. Stephen Powell

4. Darren Jolley

5. Strawbs O'Dwyer

6. Gerard Healy

7. Woey

8. Earl Spalding

9. Danny Hughes

10. Brian Wilson

It's not an easy name to spell because most mis-pronounce it. It should be said as "MAC LANE", being a contraction of Mac Gillean, pronounced MAC GILLANE.

Gillean of the Battle Axe

There endeth the lesson.

Gerard Healy left to play in finals.(played in 2 losing finals with the swans I think)

If he stayed might have got us over the line in 87.

1990 was a year we were close.Might have got us over the line again.

would have been captain. bad luck Gerard, worst decision you ever made.

Does any body know the full story on Gerard Healy's departure??

Has always interested me because he NEVER has a good word to say about the MFC, was there Bad Blood?

I mean his Brother Greg was a Fine Captain of a pretty tough side, was Gerard just plain jealous??

Thoughts??

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
