What will have more interest

Next week is not only the AFL national draft, it also is the start of the Australia V West Indies first test. I expect the Melbourne media to have more coverage of the national draft than the first test. The draft will dominate most States papers for the lead up starting on Saturday with mock drafts and finishing more likely the following Saturday after the draft. AFL is a monster, who would of thought that a kids draft would get more exposure then the Australian cricket team.

Yeah the AFL draft should attract far more interest than cricket. The Luke Ball factor should make it even more exciting.

Cricket is the most boring sport in the world. I get more aroused watching croquet than I do cricket.

"Marvelous effort that...."

Did you ever play cricket as a junior/senior ?

I played cricket as a junior for about 5 years, never really enjoyed it. I hate it now.

And if the West Indies are as [censored] as everyone keeps saying they are then I think the draft will get the better of the first test.

From a Mfc perspective I am sure there would be more interest in the National Draft in the eyes of it's supporters. The cricket will take a back seat somewhat to those who don't really have an interest in cricket.

I enjoy watching cricket and having played it for many years, I appreciate Test Matches.

My eyes will be firmly on the draft come 6:30pm Thurday 26th November. But once our club has made it's selections and all the aftermath is complete and having read the stories of the draft, I will have an eye on the cricket with a cold beveridge in hand. Whilst others can play their croquet.

I`ve always loved cricket and still do, however, i`d have to say my interest level over the last 3-4 years has dropped by at least 50%. I played for about 5 years as a junior and would attend as many Australian MCG games as possible. With a mate i attended all 5 days of the famous AUS v ENG 82/83 as a 12 year old. Up until a few years ago i would happily sit in front of the idiot box for a seven hour days play, or arrive at work bleary eyed having watched live from the Caribbean all night. But somethings changed for me, i struggle to watch it at all ! ( which disappoints me ) There`s just too much of it IMO and i fear for the future of the game on many levels. Fortunately i love the footy more than ever and whilst i wish it would hurry up and start, i hope they never venture into year round games.

Your supposed to get aroused watching cricket?

Wait.. I'll rephrase.

You get aroused watching croquet??

;)

Lack of interest in the cricket is also due to how poor the West Indies are at the moment. It's difficult to get excited about them

They might not be too far off. They have some decent kids coming thru.

Grew up as a kid watching and emulating the great WI fast bowlers of the eighties. Big Joel Garner (my fav) -also Marshall and Holding.. Ahh, good times!

Crickets may not be as exciting to watch as Aussie Rules, but there's no way that cricket is boring. It's boring not having cricket on tele, while i wait for next footy season to start.

The cricket season should have started a month ago, least we have something desent to watch. instead of just waiting.

Cricket is Australia's main summer sport, and i love it.

I played cricket and I find it ok, hate the 20 20 crap.

Seems to have lost the enjoyment of it all, todays players mainly seem.....boring.

Agree, I must be getting old (only 32) but I can't stand 20/20. I only really enjoy test cricket now days, it is an amazing contest and the level on concentration is phenomenal.

20/20 will go along way to getting cricket back up to that 2nd/3rd biggest Aussie sport as it grows imo.

It opens up the game to those a bit wishy-washy about sitting thru 100 overs or 5 days.

I personally think its the best form already, but still love the tests. One-dayers might soon be a thing of the past tho.

Yea I agree, it has the potential to drag theyounger folk in through the gates too along with some of the ladies too. Just read an article in todays age of a survey the MCC in England ran that showed test cricket is only popular in 7% of surveyed in India think 20/20 was popular in 58% of the surveryed....

My interest in cricket has declined with the rise of 20/20 (and crappy loud music.. and cheerleaders..) and the increasingly sterile contests that corporate backers demand so as not to damage their products by association. The impotence of the ICC has also played its part.

However I'll be in Adelaide on the hill for that particular test match and am very much looking forward to it. Cultural cringe be damned, probably wearing a Demons guernsey (seemed to work ok for me last boxing day).

I guess one thing to consider here is that many of the kids whose names are to be called next week could have chosen to be professional cricketers. Apart from the obvious ($, positions available, 'environment'), why?

Cricket for me died a little bit on January 5th, 2007 with the last ball of England's innings.

Despite a dominate display at the World Cup later that same year, cricket has never been the same for me.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
