12 months ago most on here were happy to trade Sylvia provided the right deal came along. there were those that aimed high and thought a second rounder was possible, and those from camp that thought he was worth little more than a packet of potato chips. i'm interested now in the thoughts of both camps to see if they would be prepared to trade, and what value is now placed on him.

IMO he's bordering on elite and nothing short of a top ten would do, and even then i'm not sure i would trade.

Not worth trading, It's not as though we need extra picks.

If he were to be put up for trade I'd expect anywhere from pick 10-25.

I wouldnt trade him at all.He will be a star & think he could be good for the new kids we get in.Has a big body & can protect them in the middle & teach them a few things. He finally has his problems sorted out & its been a breakout year for him.Id even look at him for next captain

No trade!!

Col has had his breakthrough year this year and will go on to be one of our best ever players I think.

Have always loved him and he is a great guy who just wants to get better. His games have been pretty good this year and he told me that it means little to him when we dont win. Just imagine Col with a few wins under his belt next year. I get the impression that he is just a few wins short of becoming a star and perhaps a good season or two win-wise from being an elite player. I feel that will be the fire that really gets him going and with the group we are building PLUS Scully & most likely Trengove, he is going to get his wish starting Rnd 1, 2010!!

Just hope we dont draw the premier first up!!!

Colin's finally showing what you hope to find in a player, I haven't really changed my view throughout, but certainly no trade for me (especially considering we'll already have 3 top 20 picks and should now have our team base pretty settled).

A bit keen perhaps. He missed a lot of footy with OP, and as we know, that stuff is a killer. That alone drops him back a peg or two.

???? Not as though we need extra picks? Who are you following?

I think your 10-25 is about right though.

Suddenly, due to his superb footy this year, everyone thinks Col is a must keep. At the start of the year a GREAT many 'landers said they wanted him to play good footy, even elite footy for ONE season so that we could trade him for something that would alleviate the pain of losing a former #3 pick. I must admit I still kind of have a foot in that camp. But this last round in particular has me wavering in favour of keeping him. After a few weeks out from suspension, and an interesting 1 week wait for him to come back in the team, it would have been just the time for Col to be a bit moody and not want to go out and find the footy, and deliver it with the same lethality he has this year. But he did it again. He's becoming somewhat frighteningly consistent, and THAT makes it really hard to let him go.

Consistency was always going to be something I thought we'd never see, but he's done it more or less since he regained his spot this year. In trading, you have to give something to get something, and he's certainly more of a candidate than some with his frustrating first 5 years, and injury concerns... But it'd be a courageous list manager to pull the pin on him.

I never gave up on Sylvia, nor wanted to trade him. Mind you he's still got to stay tuned in.

Put it this way, not including what we already will get, you wont find a Sylvia in this draft. Come 2012 + Coling Sylvia will be in his peak and will be leading the side at full tilt when we need him to. No point stocking up on all these draft picks, you have to have work your list and having a whole heap of young blokes with no top gun's like Sylvia will be is just stupid.

Col has earnt his place on the list this year, so must be kept to help our new younger players & play good footy for us.

More Torps Colin!!

He is one of the first picked these days. Provided he does not do dumb undisciplined stuff on and off the field.

Hopefully in 2010 he can go through the middle more as he gives our midfield something that Jones and McLean don't have .........speed.

And then rest forward like a Brad Johnson.

Onya Col.

He's worth more to us than anything he'd yield on the meat market.

what pick range would you predict the level of interest to be at given it's a supposed weak draft?

My thoughts precisely.

I think your 10-25 is about right though.

A first round pick? Pick 10?? I really doubt it.

Inconsistency, lacks pace, still managing his OP and has numerous off field problems. Negates his upside .Worth pick 25 on the market. Not worth trading

He stays.

A chequered CV with upside. We would never get the value in a weak draft for him. Second rounder offered, second rounder rejected.

my view is the consistency is just about there, great kick particularly long for goal, excellent overhead, works inside and out, and he's not afraid to knock a few opponents into the middle of next week. i don't think his pace is a concern at all even though he isn't quick, and even though he will manage his OP for his career, it can't be too bad at the moment if he can roost it 65 with no signs of discomfort.

Sylvia: What is he worth now?

Short Answer: Too much to us and not enough at the trade table.

Posted

Skinny draft though RR. Truth be told, anything after the first six might net a neat little forward like Jetta, or a qasi-KP forward like Panos... and we will have lost out on the deal. On balance, given how good Sylvia's last 22 rounds have been, he's worth one 1st and one 2nd rounder. ie, a player plus a prospective player.

Will not get that, he stays.

I just hope he plays the next 5 with teh spirit he's played this last 22. How much must it lift his team-mates? How good would Scully feel seeing that mountain clearing some space for you, then accepting a handball and drilling it 60 metres, lace out?

Looks like he goes around eating a strict diet of other blokes' muscles, does our Col.

You're asking a question that there is no plausible answer to. There's no range of picks and no level of interest because he won't be on the market. You're asking for a quantity that is impossible to measure.

it's only opinions i'm after, i wouldn't have thought that impossible to answer. what i'm wondering is, do those folk that suggested he was worth little more than a bag of chips 12 months ago, now consider him to be that good that he's off the market. i don't really care about what level of interest there is, moreso what each of us now consider his worth to be.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
