Shane Valenti

This is a link to an article about young Shane in the Sunday Age. If all our players had his dedication and determination we might not be too worried about PPs at this time of year. His is a case of a player who just doesn't seem to fit into any of the easy boxes of modern footy.

I like Valenti. Seems like a disciplined player happy to play his role. Has suffered from having too many 'like' players in Jones, McLean, Moloney all fit this year. I hope he gets a consistent run in the last 5 weeks. We could do worse tha having him on our list

The guy can play.

Valenti like Cheney are goers....they have good judgement and normally execute well under pressure....most importantly they are really hard at the ball and have a go.

We could do worse than having a few more of these types in the side.

IMO would be a fantastic player to have as depth. He's still young, and could be that player into the future. But really, will there be room on the list for him with the dramatic influx of talent this year and next? There's hardly any veterans, delistings, dead wood left... compared to recent years anyway.

It'll be interesting.

Like him though. If you like Jones, how could you not like this kid?

You really have to like the guy after reading that.

Its a shame we have so many other types like him, we really need a inside mid with pace.

If there is not room for him on our list, I really hope there will be a chance on another teams. Sydney have been interested apparently.

I really dont think the MFC is in a postion to be recruiting players just for depth

Too many of you supporters are thinking with your heart and not your head

At present Valenti is a delist IMO

I cant see him learning to kick to a satisfactory level in the remaining weeks of this season

he should have been working on that YEARS AGO

In all fairness, he probably has been working on it for years. And I don't think his kicking is that bad.

I am pleased that some of you are starting to beleive in him.he uses the ball very well, although got one smothered today but very seldom misses the target.I would much rather play shane than mclean.

There are toomany poor decision makers on our list and getting rid of valenti will be another equally poor decision.

Time to go for robbo, miller, junior, bell, whelan, and maybe newtonbut suspect that he stays on the list tocover injuries.

am happy the way the list is evolving and I think that bailey has the ship heading in the right direction.

Suggestion trade mclean, for another 1st round pick ,and keep focusing on players like jack grimes, maybe his brother is already on the radar

Nice article - tough on the fringes.

I wouldn't be shocked if they both got cut at the end of the year.

Either way, Valenti wont make it.

And Cheney is in doubt too.

No way. Maybe these two won't ever deliver a 9/10 or 10/10 performance, but in years to come they're the ones who will put in and deliver 6/10 or 7/10 every game, win or lose, top or bottom. A top team needs those types as much as the superstars like Watts or Jurrah or Scully are going to be. They both really need to be played every game for the rest of the season, because they seem to get better each game IMO.

i think i must have been watching a different game to half of you. i don't remember a single kick of valenti's hitting a target. i'm not totally against him as a player as i haven't seen a lot of him, but his kicking was atrocious yesterday.

In that case you must have been drunk because I only recall seeing one bad kick from Shane otherwise his disposal was very good.

For the record he had 18 disposals with a disposal efficiency rating of 72% compared to the teams average of 71.77%

Agreed Rhino. Neither of them showed me anything yesterday to think they will be part of our premiership tilt or where there likely improvement will come from. Both give their all and dont shirk an issue but have big queries for mine over their flexibility (both), disposal (Valenti) and decision making (Cheney). They will be nothing more than depth and for mine you do not retain players at our stage of list management for depth. I would be delisting both of them at end of year.

Cheney will be here.

One thing that was great was when Jackson tried to just pile thorugh Shane and, Valenti went 'no way, mate.'

Stopped him dead in his tracks and then he walked off limping. Great moment.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
