Jim Stynes to remain President but temporarily step down down due to illness!

I just turned on the channel 9 news this morning to hear them report that Jimmy Stynes is stepping down due to illness! Has anyone heard any more about this? Apparently he wont disclose the nature of the illness but it is with immediate effect.

If this is true it is an absolute tragedy for him and his family. FWIW it has been confirmed on channel 7 as well

Get well Jimmy

Good luck Jimmy, Wish you all the best, get well soon!

On a selfish note that means the club has just dropped backwards...... a lot.

Jimmy has achieved a lot in the short time in his presidency, has pretty much made the club a singular entity where we were all over the shop.

Sudden illness is never good, fingers crossed for Jimmy.

To support Jimmy we need to get to the game this week, he will be watching and to see 30K at the MCG and a win surely will help his recovery, something positive always helps.

Neil Mitchell saying now that he has been in contact with Jim via text and others close to Jim and whilst not revealing the problem did say it has the potential to be very serious. Jim will be making an announcement at 1pm today.

Prostate cancer i have heard. Just terrible.

Thoughts and prayers.

Leoncelli is the man to take over in my opinion.

Lets not make this a forum about bashing Lyon for not taking on teh presidents role, either, as aclub we are better than that.

and just because Garry is in the media doesnt mean he would be a very good president

Don Mclardy should be president

Don McLardy would be an excellent Pres. He was the man behind the Debt Demolition and what a great job he did with that. I would be happy with him or Leoncelli as interim's but they are just not our Jimma.

Its a huge shame. He's put the club back on the right track and has worked really hard with media and sponsors to restore the clubs reputation.

Gets well soon Jim. Your a true MFC great.

from the club.....

" There will be a press conference at 1pm today. Jim Stynes will speak at that time. Jim is keen to be the one to give the detail on his circumstances."

Had to ring the club about another matter this morning, and the lady on the phone told me there is a bit of madness going on with emergency meetings taking place. This is obviously a big shock to everyone, Jim included.

Tried as I may, she wouldn't give me anything else. Said she doesn't know yet.

Let's hope it is only a temporary thing and that Jim is able to make a full and quick recovery!

I think we all hope that this is true...however, if this was the case, would they be having a press conference all?

Yep, considering the seriousness of the illness I reckon they would. I think it will be more a situation of Jimmy wanting to return when he is feels fit enough rather than giving a fixed time frame.

Sometimes we have fierce debates on this forum. We sometimes even bag each other, but when thinking of Jimmy, lets stick fat and turn out to the game on the weekend.

Thinking of you Jim. Get well soon mate.

Are you really Gary Honey's bro? Dud or otherwise. I know Gary.

Praying for your health Jimmy (and I trust these prayers will be much more successful than some of my prayers for Melbourne wins :D

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
