Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I don't care if he gets an RS or not. The kid is a very good footballer, cool and calm beyond his years, and has a great red and blue heart pumping the spirit of ol' 26 blood down his great Demon veins. What I care about is the next 250 games that he will play, and star in, for us.

Great game Jack Grimes and a future captain. Loved Liam Jurrah's grit too.

What I hated most though was the fact, when Jimma is facing his greatest crisis, we could only attract just over 23K to the 'G.

I was in the AFL members, and was gladdened by opposition supporters, who came with their colours on to support Jimmy. It seems, the best we can do as MFC supporters, is to ramp up the stereotype..........that is........we are soft.

If we can't do it for Jimmy, then who can we do it for?

I am totally disgusted.

That's actually a really good crowd for a club on the bottom with the lowest number of supporters of all clubs

Jack Grimes is a STAR!

has made a few errors but realisticallyhe is a genuine star in the making. Hr\e played 1game last year and then had a late start with injury again, he reads the game better than any one at the club and i will suggest that he is captain material going forward. . His chase down in the second quarter was pure when west coast wre running into a goal.

we just need valenti to be given some time . I can assure you he can play

Grimes had a very good game this week. Did anyone else love his play on the wing, southern side? I liked the attitude that play reflected - he decided we needed to get moving and he was the one to do it. Exciting stuff.

Surely this week the kid will be rewarded for what has been a brilliant start to his career

I've only seen one other game this week but I think he's a very good chance of nabbing the nomination.

No issue with his kicking either ;)

After the game I heard on MMM that his DE was very good and Frawley talked up his kicking. However, on ABC two commentators mentioned - in passing - that Grimes had made a few errors. As the ABC commentators alluded to, there were a couple of issues and one in particular was characteristic of his errors over recent weeks.

One mistake that I think is characteristic of his errors over the past few matches occurred in the last quarter. Grimes was coming inboard from the defensive flank, southern side. He wasn't under much pressure but seemed to just take the kick easy and failed to nail the pass.

Given the circumstances in which his turnovers seem to happen I think it's a concentration thing. His technique seems very good and if he can iron out those errors he'll be a very damaging player.

And that is precisely why, a few errors here and there, are nothing to worry about (I agree that concentration and mostly fatigue is the issue, because he has good technique off both feet).

Because in his 9th game, that boy stood up in the final quarter, when West Coast was making a run for it, and said "no f'ing way".

He was as much of a leader out there as anyone else and he helped to carry us over the line.

That is not something you see everyday from someone with such little experience.

Can't wait to see what he can do without injury set-backs, with more experience and physical development and when playing on the ball. That is a very good thought!

Yeah, whatever.

For what it's worth, that's about 6-8,000 more than the game would likely have attracted normally, maybe more given the weather and the extraordinary set of tight and significant games over this round.

Edit: Removed pointless personal comment and also thought to note that the effectively season-ending clash between the 'record-membership Hawks' and the surging Doggies only got 36,000. The whole state has set their football ration to sunday - I know people who won't be watching their team on sunday in order to make sure they see the Saints-Cats. And also, gee that Jack Grimes can play!

Excuse me, mate.

I was there when we played this same mob at Optus Oval and 9000 dragged themselves along.

I was expecting sub 20k and 23k was a pleasant suprise with about 2k of them being WCE supporters.

I think you need to sit down for a moment and collect your thoughts.

Where the hell is Freak?!

He should be arguing now that Jack has a fundamental flaw in his kicking.

Davey was mercilessly tagged and Grimes, at 20, decided that this game was his to be the set-up man off half back.

Great stuff.

Effing good kicking too...

Rogue, I'll raise you.

I was level headed last week in saying my new favourite player (oh god) did not deserve the rising star nomination.

But this week, and honestly with little bias, if he doesn't get it this week I will kill someone.

Absolutely dominated, was the general and was so clean with his disposal.

P.s. How Brad Green is not captain is beyond me

Possibly because he is not a great leader..?

Round 20 2008 Melb v West Coast crowd = 17,958

Round 14 2009 Melb v West Coast crowd = 23,149

Both Saturday matches.

That said, when we go back to round 13, 2005 Melb v West Coast crowd = 35,653

Success brings crowds. Crowds will improve when the teams fortunes do.

I havent checked yet, but is this an actual stat??

This refers to kickoff clangers. Not aware that it's a stat, but I kept waiting for the routine 3 opposition goals from kickoff clangers, whoever takes them, and they never came. JG took just about all of them. The only defensive 50 clanger goal that I can recall is when Jack hit Wheatley at about the 50 on the boundary, Wheatley for some reason decided to centre it and hit Selwood on the chest.

And Jack playing like that in defence releases Davey to the forward midfield. Across halfback, Davey needs 25 or 30 touches to do scoreboard damage, but further forward he creates major damage with only half a dozen critical touches. We can expect Davey to get a hard tag every single game from now on (Josh Carr next week for example) wherever he plays, but playing him forward makes him a very dangerous proposition even if he only gets it 10 times.

Didn't DB say at a press conference recently that we need to clone Aaron Davey & have one to play forward and one to play back? Well, now it's even better. Jack gets even more contested ball playing back than Flash.

Now we know what he's capable of, we need some consistency from Jack, which is a lot to ask for a 20 year old. Hate to see him get slammed if he doesn't produce it next week.

And can't wait to see Strauss back there doing the same one day.

Jack Grimes..

well thankyou Travis :) :) :) :) ;)

Heres a guy putting other more experienced Dees to ....well..not shame.. but certainly serious scrutiny !!

Poise, calm, decision making and a sheer ability to find the ball ...or let it find him and then do something very constructive and invariably intelligent ( footywise) with it. He really came of age yesterday. Has potential Captain all over him. Why.. because he simply leads by example and others lift around him.

Surely the Nomination of the week..if any justice :)

Does Jack Grimes get a trip to the Brownlow this year?

That game should see him finishing as a top 5 vote getter for us.

That would not be hard at all.

In all seriousness it was a a very good game by him. A step up on the good form already seen.

Should be a shoo in for the rising star nomination.

BOG, Rising star nomination, future Onballer next year.

This kid can seriously play and with performances like that for the remainder of the year, would be a certain winner of the rising star.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
