Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

In my team if you cannot kick you dont play

Bailey has drafted players who CAN kick

Why would he pick a team with some players that CANNOT

One wonders what a Maric would have made

bate played one of the worst games i have ever seen him play. even worse when you consider his direct opponent for a lot of the match was goodwin.

This is the exact reason why Newton has to be assessed from the point of view of what we get out of him for what he is entrusted to do. Given the conditions of the game, Goodwin was always going to be a key player for the Crows. In a different thread I earmarked him as tagger worthy before the game yet Bate had to battle it out with him. Newton on the other hand had a slower defender to work off.

Bate and Miller are not immune to bad games but the point here is that they earn their money (to a degree) by at least providing a contest and more often than not are the hard workers and key targets. In many games Newton is given the extra forward role where he strolls around without the same accountability of the other forwards due to being less experienced. Yes, Bate had a bad game but he isn't being used as well as possible or getting the support he needs. Newton is in most games inconsequential and his main avenue to having a purpose is if he is lucky enough if the ball falls in his lap and he can slot one or two. To say that his two miss-goals from 5-10 out killed us is an understatement. If he can't capitalise on such a small semblance of an opportunity to contriubute to the team then he is rightly in trouble. The thing to remember with Newton is that most of his opportunities are off the back of other players down the field or the other forwards who get most attention from the defenders and have to work harder. Bate (usually) is a very hard worker and earns his kicks like Miller, Newton more so only stands out with the spoils of this and missing those goals like he did reduces him to being irrelevant to our cause and kills the players who work their ass off to create those opportunities he gets.

It's not even enough to be considered capable... or a forward... or an AFL player come to think of it.

Putting aside his terrible performance in front of goal, he does absolutely nothing else too.

Lets stop concentrating on how bad he is when the ball is in his hands, and talk about how terrible he is when the ball is not in his hands.

Mind you, Bate isn't far off the mark either, but at least Bate can run all day.

Didn't Newton confess to running out of gas in the last quarter last week?? He ran about 2meters FFS!:blink:

Maybe you need to watch him more when we don't have the ball he chases as hard if not harder than half our side. He just struggles with the offencsive side of his game.

ultimately there is only ONE yardstick ..and one alone for a key forward.. Scoreboard pressure...he has none !!

Well alot of reading..

I dont think it is really fair judging any young player in this team.. How can you get a real sense of their ability when the teams confidence is Zero??

how many people here have actually played at top level?? Vfl/Afl? surely you remember your first few games..

my knees were nocking lol kicking for goal.

It is a lot harder for KPP as you know the team is relying on you. and he was fighting for his spot. I think with a bit of confidence the pressure would come off and he could be ok.. On saying that i dont hink what he has done is good enough for AFL so definately drop him back down until he strings together 5 Top games then tell him he has 5 weeks to prove himself..

I think it is unfair that we are expecting so much from our kids if the board had drafted properly they would be support players not KPP.

I wouldn't think that getting 9 shots at goal in 2 matches, whilst converting only 2 of them and doing nothing else at all, is enough to be considered a capable AFL forward.

9 shots at goal in 2 matches is enough to be considered a capable AFL forward.

Like I said, that's half the battle.

Obviously the execution is letting him down - no one is disputing that.

For some posters it is enough to be considered a capable forward that is doing his job just fine.

Who has said that?

I haven't seen anyone say that kicking 2 from 9 shots is 'doing his job just fine'.

Definitely at MFC but not elsewhere.

I haven't seen anyone say that kicking 2 from 9 shots is 'doing his job just fine'.

I have seen marvellously misleading stats bandied around that suggest he is as good as Carey and better than J. Brown.

We are onto a good thing here.

What a ridiculous table. Can you list the proportion of games played in the forward line as well?

Not wishing to overlook the talents of your penis, I was appalled by Newton's kicking. One of those any kid in the under13s could have done better moments.

But having seen the replay on Foxtel it should be noted that Gerard Healy at the time said that in those swirling conditions on that angle it was not more than a 50:50 chance.

It looked better to me at the time but Healy knows the ground a bit. He made his comments BEFORE Newton took the kick.

More disturbing was Newton's second attempt when his confidence was so shot he tried for a banana.

the second shot was the harder one because he was kicking with his right foot, likely to slide it across goal. Given he had hooked the first one, it meant he had even less chance of nailing the second if he was hooking his drop punts.

I'll stop trying to promote thought. Yes it's pretty obvious players play different amounts of time in different positions. No, even if people want to mis-represent it, I made no claims as to Newton being "as good as Carey and better than J. Brown" Heaven forbid I tabulate current players GPG, why that would be "a ridiculous table".

Tippet didn't seem to have too much trouble late in the game kicking from a reasonable distance out wind or no wind?

luck, and I think the wind dropped a bit in the last as well.

There was a ball kicked well in front of us that should have traveled at least 50m up the wing to adelaide HF. The wind got it and turned it 20m inside towards the centre and dropped about 3o mtrs away. There would have been times on sun that nobody could have kicked goals. I'm not defending juices accuracy especially that "banana" he tried but really adelaide kicked some really lucky goals from 40+ that could have easily missed due to the conditions. Likewise we missed some from closer that could have been a bit luckier and gone through and who knows.

Going into this season MN was seen as one of our best shots on goal, I wonder what has changed? (CONFIDENCE!)

Dear Michael,

I will keep this Brief as i know you have a limited attention span as shown by your game last sunday at twilight.

If you had played with the same amount of PASSION & COMMITMENT as Clint Bartram did the club could well have won a second game in 7 days.

What Clint Bartram did i thought was incredible & i will never question his Loyalty to the Red & Blue. Good on ya Barts.

Michael do you want to play AFL Football....Really....

[censored] Poor effort. As a Forward you are expected to kick goals within 10 metres. Otherwise you are not a forward or a footballer.

R.I.P. Mr Bartram Your son is a credit to us all

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
