anyone know if we have any delisted players training with us?

Or probably more importantly at this stage (becauase the issue will be resolved sooner), any out of contract players without injuries not at training? We still have up until as late as Friday to delist players and lodge our list

That would be right  . Carlton stealing one of our players that finally found some form for no compensation.

Did the MFC try to trade him?

Would it? A long shot rumour? Careful

CJ is a C grader with question marks about his capacity to stand up to AFL pressure.

MFC sought to trade a number of players including CJ but there was no interest during trade week.

Its a measure of Carlton's esteem for CJ that they would not have parted with a 4th round pick for him.

I heard, from a reliable source(dont ask, cant say), Chris Johnson is going to Carlton, offered 2 year deal by the Blues, only offered one with us, met with Bailey yesterday, he wants him to stay but cant offer him 2 years, money probs etc. Having a medical at the blues ?Friday. Not too sure if he'll be missed, what u think?

If he nominates for the PSD, what's stopping another club from drafting him?

If we can only offer him 1 year we are in real trouble as a club. Might aswell pack our bags now! Would be disgraceful if that is the case. He will be a great player and needs to be signed immediately.

i agree 100%, from what i heard, he was offered one year, and a possible extra year if he played a certain number of games, he was on the same last year, but got injured and didn't play the quota of games required, he was told it would be the same this year if he got injured, a bit unfair, but he wants 2years and is sick of whats happening, and it looks like he's going, blues really want him in the backline, this money shortage is killing us.

I doubt that it's a money problem. We've shot ourselves in the foot too many times in the past, by giving fringe players multiple year contracts (the name Godfrey immediately springs to mind), and end up having too many list cloggers. I don't see the problem in offering a fringe player a 1 year contract with the option of an additional year if certain criteria are met.

If CJ takes up the offer to play elsewhere, and plays well, so be it.

If we start talking about list cloggers this thread could go to 300 posts by this time tomorrow..

Let him go if he wants, I don't want the club handing him a 2 year contract just to compete with Carlton.

So far he has shown glimpses and has potential, but he's had enough time to show quite a bit more.

It'd be sad to see a rare father-son pick go though...

No way, don't let him go - give him 2 years. He was (finally!) fantastic in the backline this year, one of the few highlights and real improvers this year. And i really noticed our ability to get the ball out of defence fall dramatically in the last few games when he got injured, and I think his loss played a significant part in that. IMO he is best 22 if he can keep this year's form up. I'll be pretty annoyed if we let him go because we won't offer 2 years - our money issue really shouldn't be coming into it as he wouldn't be asking for much. Carlton again...FFS!

That's just it, he's been at MFC 4 years and has played a handful of solid games. I agree that he was very good in a couple of matches this year and I would be disappointed to see him go also, his form over the past 4 seasons does not warrant an automatic 2 year term though. If he backs himself he shouldn't have an issue with a performance based contract, but if he is more interested in the soft option - security - let him walk, we've got enough soft players.

I agree with mo64 that it doesn't seem to have anything to do with money, more to do list management and ensuring we don't end up with pickles like Carroll on our list when they're 18 months past their use by date.

I think CJ has potential to be in our best 22 also however its just as likely he'll turn in a similar season that Bell did this year and then everyone will be complaining that he's contracted for 2010.

Exactly.

Let me clarify what I said - I don't want the club handing him a 2 year contract just to compete with Carlton... if the club doesn't think he's earnt the contract on his own merit.

I certainly don't think he has.

A few good games do not a career make.

I'd be very disappointed to see him go. He finally came good last season - and some players take time. If he were to leave, Carlton may very well get a bargain - and at the MFC's expense, as we've put four years of software into the guy only for Carlton to get the benefit of it ...

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
