White in Jamar out

Bates Mate

Recommended Posts

Say what you like about Jamar, at least he can actually win a ruck contest!

White is no longer interested.

Spot on. I wondered what the point of playing him was tonight other than the obvious that Jamar was unavailable? Thought it might be his chance to show a Collingwood or Carlton that he may have a year left in him. Sorry Jeff, it`s done n dusted mate and I think you know it. Thanks for some great years that seem a long long time ago !

While you're busy throwing Whitey on the bonfire why don't you add Nathan Carrol to it as well.

Nah, in all honesty, I love Whitey and its a crying shame how his career has fizzled out.

He's been a good servant to the club. I thought he got thrown around alot tonight, Ottens traeted him with contempt. He is not strong enough through the upper body. He's asset was his leap. The circle has destroyed him. Time to go Jeff, sorry mate.

If a club wants White... all the best.

It was sad to hear G. Lyon award the MMM "Worst on Ground" 3 votes to Old Jeff. He did preface his announcement with "I prefer to think of it as least-effective". Time to move on.

So does anyone still think White should be playing before Jamar? I thought he was less effective around the ground than the big Russian, and not even close to him at the ruck contests. Thanks for a great career Jeff but sadly it's time up.

You are the poor supporter Cards. If you think Whites performance was good and above critisism you need to take the blinkers off. If you think we just should never critisise Melbourne players you are a fool

There is such a big cap between VFL and AFL, even knowing that Jeff has played 250+ games it still would take time to re-adjust to the pace. Saying that Blake towelled him. Thanks Jeff for the past 10 years.

White hasn't been the same ruckman since the centre bounce rule came in. This negated the one aspect of his game that made him a stand out as a ruckman - his leap at the centre bounce.

I can remember time and time again in 2000 how he'd leap at the centre bounce and knock it in the path of Powell or Woeowodin etc. who would run onto it and pump it forward. It was exciting stuff.

However the game changes and the centre bounce rule was always going to affect smaller, athletic ruckman. White is a great athlete and can still provide value around the ground and his kicking skills are very good. But there are two aspects that are going to see him struggle going forward:

1) Ruckwork - his leap has been negated at centre bounces and bigger ruckman just out-reach him. Only 11 hit-outs last night, with 0% effectiveness. At other stoppages, he just gets monstered by the bigger ruckman. They outbody him and outposition him and as a result he struggles to have an influence at these stoppages.

2) Handball - while a great kick, White is not the best decision maker by hand. The way the game is going and the way we want to move the ball, we need good decision makers by hand and foot. I think White has struggled to adapt to a style of game with more handball.

White's been a great player for us but with the focus on youth and development and the financial situation at the club, it is increasingly likely that he will make way at the end of the year. I'm not hanging him on one shocker of a game, it's just that the game has changed and the style of ruckman has changed.

I have always thought that White should sue the AFL for a rule change that directly affected his capacity to earn.

I'm not joking.

Gerard Healy, probably trying to justify his opinions vis-a-vis "ruckman's knee", once said something along the lines of "well, he will adapt". Balls! That's a complete soft-soap cop-out. What's white going to do? Stitch springs to his boots?

No, I reckon White has been grievously wronged by the AFL and he, or his "people", should do something about it.

W-Jack, you're a lawyer - get onto it.

Wouldn't it be more along the lines of ..............that directly affected his capacity to ply his trade (hence earn).....

At the end of the day, Rules are Rules. And if the governing body which is the AFL in this instance, adopted those new rules and it satisfied the needs of the AFL players Association, Jeff hasn't got a leg to stand on.....so to speak.

jeff had 11 hitouts and none to advantage....

number of times the opponent palmed the ball to advantage and created a goal, well...

has been a terrific servant to this football club and in his glory days he was just awesome to watch - the high marking, the silky foot skills and the ability to run...

unfortunately, those days are gone and jeff will be remembered for the good rather than the bad...

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
