What Three Positions would you like to fill from the draft?

This is like asking what presents do you want for Xmas this year: -

Dear Santa,

Umm can I have a FF, CHB/FB and gun midfielder please with pace & skill.

Watts, Hurley and Rich would be very nice. If I can't have Rich (if he's sold out), I'll take Zaharkis please!

Thanks Santa.

Ideally a FF/CHF (Watts), a speedy midfielder with good skills (Walters and/or Blease please) and either another tall (Jordan Lisle, Cornelius, or Johnstone if he slides) or best available midfielder (Swift, Suban).

High chance of Tom Swift being available, and he is definitely worth a punt. Rated higher than Rich before injury kept him out of Under 18 champs, and is just coming back from injury on a half back flank for Claremont's colts side. Great inside midfielder who racked up some phenomenal stats in the state Under 16's comp a couple of years age. Probably will slide because of knee injuries (maybe due to a 7cm growth spurt, now listed as 190cm), but no more severe than Vickery and Lynch (who both had solid carnivals) and both will go high.

Watts, we had a bad experience taking talls early but we should punt on Watts.

Picks 17, 19 and 35 (if we use it) should be pacey mids/fwds, but its so difficult to tell who is going to be a good footy player at such a young age.

I'd love to be a recruiter, but I'd hate to be recruiter... If you know what I mean.

rpfc, if you were a recruiter i'd hope to god that you would use pick 35!

Has a team ever passed up a top 40 pick?

I thought rp was making reference to the possiblity of the pick being traded. Hard for me to see us trading any picks higher than that.

i think the picks will roughly be these. This is what I want ideally but at the end of the day i'd rather a quality player (any position) over an average player that fills a need. But anyway:

pick 2- watts

pick 18- midfielder (best available)

pick 20- midfielder (best available)

pick 36- key forward

pick 52-key backman

and a polished fast ball magnet midfielder so we can use bruce on the flanks... he is not hard enough for the guts

Agree with the polished fast ball magnet midfielder,.......but by the time he's in the guts for Melbourne on a regular basis after some development, Bruce may be finished on the flanks by then.

I would love to get Ranga Edwickrama (surname is a complete guess). If he can play he could be an easy way into the fairly sizeable Sri Lankan Population of Melbourne. I doubt he'll slip to 17-18 though.

Edi's tied to Geelong through the NSW Scholarship scheme. Can't see them passing on him.

Totally agree. The club is under huge pressure to get this RIGHT. This draft I think is the MFC's most important to date. But having said that, I believe we are in good hands.

Power forward-J Brown Pick 17 and a player- 4yr deal

Marquee Mid- Cousins or Kerr. Otherwise Rich/ Prismall Swop of pick order ie 18 for 25.

Ruck- Hopefully Warnock (PSD)

We have no power forward and J Brown will be there to assist us grow for a challenge in 3 years time. This will allow us to develop Newton, or Watts etc.

Midfield desperately needs a gun- Cousins, Kerr. Rich/Prismall to develop.

Ruck- Warnock seems most acheiveable.

IMHO we are desperate for a power forward and elite mid.

It was a reference to the fact that elevating Wonna and Valenti, and having an opening in the PSD means that 3 places are taken from potential draftees.

Deletions at the moment look like Neitz, Holland, Yze, White, Weetra, and Bode. That is 6, therefore leaving only 3 picks in the national draft.

Trades may alter this, or Valenti or Wonnas may agree to be on the Rookie list for another season to keep pick 35 open.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
