I hope all you 'winning culture' chumps got your jollies from that win against Carlton, because it really has hurt us.

I do. I took my 2 sons and wife to that game. We cheered out heart out and sung(and cried) the song 4 TIMES. Something I'll take to my grave

So did I. And I reckon they played the theme song 6 times that day. There is nothing wrong with a winning culture. Hell, when Sydney won their premiership, they didnt do it by finishing bottom in previous years before '05.

So you take every win to your grave do you? That was probably the most lacklustre win I've witnessed in the 7 years I've been a member. It wasn't even close or exciting. It just was rubbish. The Carlton supporters were happier than most of the Melbourne supporters around me.

If a Dees fan told me they'd cried after the win versus Carlton, I'd have assumed that they were upset we missed out on draft picks.

Wow i can see it now. Lucky we didn't finish 16th. As the 15th best team, we will have an easier job of selling our club and getting people on board.

My thoughts exactly.

The only thing that makes me sad is how thick and short-sighted some people are. Do you THINK about football? Do you consider the deeper, longer-term issues involved with the club? I cannot see how a 'supporter' can purport to want the best outcome for the club and then say that they do not want the best young talent in the country. This winning culture crap is right out of the 1920s. Are you telling me that players don't know how to win? Kick more points than the other team maybe?

Diablo, I understand what you're saying, but the reason why I want to beat Freo is that I don't think there'll be much difference this year if we finish last or 3rd last. The top 3 or 4 picks are incredibly even and we'll end up with about 3 (hopefully 4) picks in the top 22. This draft is quite deep, top 30 being good so I don't think having picks 3, 19 & 22 will be all that different to 1, 17 & 20.

It would be nice to end the season with a couple of wins, if only to give the club with our crowd size, boost some cash coming into the club in what will be a disastrous year financially.

earlier in the preseason people on this web didnt want to win or peak too early, i said then and I still say now, how you play or practice is your future. How do you tell your new kids dont go to hard now, maybe latter when its worth more. MORE THAN WHAT- your pride and jumper. tell Aussie dont score so many goals, miss a few more for now but not latter when its worth more.

OR tell them to give it all they have restore some pride in themselves and also let us see what is in store next year and beyond.

TANKING IS FOR LOOSERS WHO PROBERLY COULDNT WIN ANYWAY!

If we win this, considering we will probably beat West Coast and another team, we will lose our PP

If we lose, im pretty sure we will keep our PP

This year is all about the Priority pick, make no doubts about it. The top 25 of this draft is so strong, having 3 picks in the top 20 will benefit us enormously. Im up for the loss.

You don't tell them not to go hard etc

You can 'tank' while still asking for 100% effort.

I would say our beloved Demons might win this weeks game. The Dockers are in disarray. Whilst all our young players are on the improve. Watch for the Dockers on where they play Pavlich. That will be a tell-tale sign. They will lose Solomon, perhaps Carr through suspension - but he might get off. Perhaps Crowley might go too. They will have players out.

The WA teams are an absolute disgrace, and Robert Walls who described Melbourne as the worst team in the competition this season, in an On the Couch episode, better retract his statement.

WIN WIN WIN. At the birthday function last week, it was obvious from Miller that they want to win. They were so excited after the Brisbane win. We are not TANKERS !!!!!

Win, definitely.

Sure, it could be better for the club, but i want to win. Ask me 5 rounds in and it was lose, but just the enthusiasm and excitement from the team after the Brissy and Freo win, we're not building a team of losers and almost-rans, we want a team of winners.

We also have some very long-suffering fans out West that deserve a win at Subi.

Did it occur to anyone that our record at Subi is an absolute shambles?

I'll be happy if we win, but I definaetly won't be upset if we lose by a few goals. As long as the kids are improving each game.

Ultimate situation would be avoiding the spoon, but retaining the PP with a 4-18 record.

Absolutely I want to win this week.

As I implied in another thread, we can judge the success or our season on how we go over the next seven weeks.

Winning culture is everything - I'd grade us a pass if we can win three of the seven

We need to lose... winning culture is a load of sh^t.... Lets be a smart club and get the best talent we can and build for the future will it really matter it 2011 if we won two or five games for the current crop of players... look what one win against the bulldogs has cost us this year... We could have had two of the following Rich, Hurley, Watt and Natunai

If Fremantle finish below us in on the ladder it takes away our bargining power if we try for warnock...

During trade week we can give them a bad pick or we take him in the PSD and you lose him for nothing scenerio... if we finish above freo that goes out the window

Let's get out of this wretched mess of a season with 4 wins, a priority pick at the start of the second round, and the boys looking like they've grasped the gameplan. Hopefully a number of our youngsters (Morton, Wonaeamirri, M Warnock, Garland, Martin) will have benefitted greatly from their AFL exposure this year and can make further contribution in 2009. Just two more wins, thanks. Not fussed about the final ladder position.

The year is farked. Winning a handful of games isn't going to make it any less farked nor is it going to suddenly engender a winning culture. If anything, winning three more games compromises our future.

From a National Draft perspective it matters little whether we finish 14th, 15th or 16th. I'd imagine all clubs finishing in that range will be happy to walk away with a Rich or a Hurley, a Natanui, a Hartlett or a Watts. Any one of them would be warmly welcomed at MFC. The advantage of finishing 16th is pole position in the PSD & the bargaining power that comes with it. We can then offer Freo a second or third round pick (perhaps adding a player) for Robbie Warnock accompanied with the threat to take the deal or lose him in the PSD. Hopefully they'd take the deal & we could turn our attention to another young, uncontracted player with our PSD pick. A Prismall or a Mitch Thorp for example.

Bring on that spoon I say. In a year or two no-one will give a [censored] that we came last. Ideally from here on in we'll suffer a series of "honourable losses" in which we'll see further game-time & continued improvement from the younger players. Then in Round 22, we can take out the Tigers, consigning them to a rueful 9th position while we greet the summer as last-start winners, feeling like season 2009 is something to eagerly anticipate.

Boggles the mind!!! Some of the same people who complain about Sylvia not putting in a consistent effort, want the team to do what they are complaining about Col not doing! I don't care if we win or lose, I want to see every player giving their all with a total commitment to the new game plan. Taking risks and backing themselves into the contest. Running in numbers with courage and conviction, breaking the lines and backing our depleted forward line to win the one on one contests, rather than kick it around the 50m arc to an uncontested player. If we do that and aren't good enough, so be it.

Obviously our players don't know they've only managed it twice this year! Winning culture for mine

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
