OK I'm used to Vlad sticking his head in the sand about the issues of players recreational past times or the dubious nature of some clubs list management (not to mention Drug induced Tanking) - but how long do we have to suffer the ignominy of such a flawed and ridiculous system that consistently overlooks those that deserve to be rewarded... No I'm not talking about Charlie, rather the Rising Star awards. Why the bloody hell has Col'n not been Nominated! The boy's a champion and something's smelling fishy in AFL headquarters and I'm not talking about the apple danish! Colin Garland for the 2008 NAB Rising star (sorry Wona and Cale - although that's another conspiracy theory in the making)

He appears to be eligable, so yes - its an odd one that he hasn't been nominated yet.

Very tough for a young defender.

Nathan Brown beat 4 monsters of the AFL in a row, and got nothing for it. Then about 8 weeks later received one for comparatively less.

I do hope he gets one though, would certainly justify his rise

on that note

put money on valenti if he gets a nom as he is 501 to win the rising star

same with weetra and pettrd

If you're prepared to put $100 on each, I'll give you 1000-1 on Weetra, Petterd and Valenti winning the Rising Star.

Although, he had a delayed start to the season, Cotchin has been the standout IMO.

Rhys Palmer for mine.

Cotchin has been good though.

I'd have Palmer favourite, but if Aussie wins our goalkicking he'd surely be in the mix. Palmer could win the shockers b&f though

dont be surprise if aussie wins it! palmer yes get alot of the ball but he turns it over that many time u lose count in the game!! such an erretic kick! 20 goals and 4 points for aussie! the bloke does the one percenters palmer doesn't!

i think it was matthew lloyed i heard a couple of weeks ago say that aussie is an up and coming superstar and he wouldn't be surprise if aussie wins it.

GO AUSSIE!!

The Rising Star is like the Oscars: make great films and win nothing, then thirty years later, make a shocker and win a charity statue.

What would be easier for a young player, to freelance around in the midfield, off half back or in a foward pocket....

or

play a key defensive role against the likes of Franklin, Reiwoldt, Farmer, Burton, Didak, O'Laughlin and Bradshaw and never once lower your colours, playing for a team that allows the ball to get down there plenty???

Should've got a nomination already, probably won't this week because the records will show that Bradshaw kicked 4, but everyone at the game will tell you there is no way Bradshaw had the better of that match up, even though he was averaging 8 goals a game over his last 3 against us.

You just know they'll give the award to Kruezer because "OMG he was like the number one pick"

Aussie deserves to finish top 3, he is our leading goal kicker ffs!

Oh and Garland most certainly deserves a nomination, but I won't hold my breath.

Why would you think that? Out of the 15 odd winners only a couple have been the No 1 pick.

I think it's out of Palmer, Rioli & Wona. On recent form and consistency overall you could say Wona's had a better year than Rioli, 2 goals a game is a massive effort. And Palmer's form is dropping too, Wona's a real chance if he remains as consistent as he has been.

Beanpoles like Kruezer & Tippett dont get enough of it and have too many poor games to be any chance.

Cotchin & Houli would have been right up there except they will not have played enough.

Young defenders are not easily noticed, and there have been some very good young players who have been nominated from winning teams. Don't worry, Col's time will come.

Nothing easy about what Rivers did. Says more about the way he played and how good he was than anything else

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
