Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

The elusive Newton..!

I have it on good authority that even though Newton did not get named for either Sandy side this week, that he will actually play in one of the teams.

If that's the case then why all of the drama?

Either name him and play him or don't name him and don't play him.

This is strange but Ricky Petterd is named as part of the interchange for the reserves. It suggests possibly that there might be a doubt over his fitness. The fact that Newton's not there suggests that he's unfit for one reason or other (I suppose that's pretty obvious isn't it?)

McNamara's busy

well spotted, mcnamara named on field in both sides...

zomer in both sides (bench for the 1sts)...

plymin in both sides (on the bench for the 1sts)...

dean on the bench in both sides...

and spencer named in both sides.

12 named on the bench in the 1sts. 4 need to go up to the mfc, means 8 on the bench.

four more need to be cut and 5 players are named in both sides. that means, either all five could play in the 2nds and newton come into the 1sts. or all five could play in the 1sts and newton plays in the seconds.

their is still a spot there floating around...

Newton, on the other hand, will be gaining absolutely nothing from playing against sub-standard opposition in the 2's, and not getting any fitter playing there either. He plays as a deep forward, essentially using his height, leap and well-timed, short leads to win the footy.

Run20x20m sprints with 30 seconds between at 100% then then jog 400m at about 80% and tell me which one is more exhausting

I see where you're coming from buddy but your "experiment" is flawed for the ultimate reason that the intensities are different. I see they're covering the same distance but at different intensities it's a ridiculous comparison.

I know you're going to bring up game style running but neither of those situations actually occur. If the 400m was at 100% you'd be much more exhausted after that.

Too many conspiracy theories. The reasons will no doubt be a combination of things. The 12 player rule, management of Petterd's injury and Sautners return.

I think it is likely that part of Newton's frustration with going back to Sandy is having to compete with Sautner to be the focal point.

I agree with RR. I like Petterd and want to see him return fully fit whether that be this year or next. Same with Frank Grimes. And Jarka, Petterd won't be traded.

Maybe the plain and simple answer is that Newton's knee hasn't come up well after last week and he's out injured again?

Sandringham desperatley needs to win tomorrow's game against Port, as a loss will severely diminish its chances of making the top four. The Zebs are entitled to play a maximum of 12 MFC listed players under the VFL's stand alone rule. There are twelve Demons left in the current squad of 26:-

Daniel Bell, Simon Buckley, Kyle Cheney, Addam Maric, Stefan Martin, Tom McNamara, John Meesen, Cale Morton, Jake Spencer, Shane Valenti, Adem Yze and Trent Zomer

Will they all play?

I think they will with the possible exception of an additional emergency to go to Canberra (Valenti?) and Zomer who showed last week that he was fringe senior VFL at best at this stage. I think it would be pathetic if McNamara went back to the ressies after being named in a set position in the firsts for his first senior VFL game.

That leaves the door ajar for Newton to come in if fit but, if that happens, it would leave a mystery about his non selection in the first place. I personally would like to see him playing because his presence in a game at this level always adds to the game's interest and excitement.

By the sounds of it you're saying that Newton doesn't need fitness to be a full forward. Look at how Gehrig has performed this year and that'll give you an indicator of an unfit full forward trying to play AFL. He needs to be able to continuous sprint on a lead then use explosive power to leap for marks and then if the ball hits the deck it's another 5-10m burst of energy to get to it and compete. Then after all that if the opposition wins the ball you have to chase your opponent the other way

Confirmed. Valenti trained with the team in Canberra today and is the emergency whose gone up with the team. Scratch him from the Sandy side unless he flies back tomorrow morning.

Sandy won by 67 points.

Zomer kicked 8, Maric 5, and Cale Morton had 37 damaging disposals with 2 goals.

Just kidding, but I hope its something like that.

Yeh and Newton was a late inclusion, Quote "He led, he marked, he chased, he tackled, he bustled and he kicked 7 staight including one on his wrong side from 55 whilst fending off 4 opponents"

"The best individual game I've seen at this level"

YM could not have got it more wrong. It was a horrible day for the Zebras with the seniors completely outclassed going down by 67 points and the reserves losing by 1 point.

Sandringham 2.2.14 3.3.21 6.6.42 11.9.75

Port Melbourne 5.2.32 11.10.76 15.13.103 21.16.142

Cale Morton and Tom McNamara among the Zebs best IMO.

Port Melbourne 2.4.16 5.7.37 7.8.50 10.11.71

Petterd played well. Newton played but didn't kick any goals.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
