Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

also disagree on Morton. Won the ball in more damaging positions today but his disposal was poor. Kids are always going to be up and down in their first year to say he is going backwards is a tad harsh.

Morton - is going backwards

How can a skinny, first-year 18-year-old, who's played less than 10 games... go backwards?!

He's young, and although sublimely talented, still quite raw. He will have lots of ups and downs, as all kids do. Remember, a consistently good player from debut, is the exception, not the rule. All kids, even the highly rated ones, take time. And in Morton's case given his slight build, he's expected to take more.

But to say he is going backwards is ludicrous.

We may have been able to win this game if not for the fierce rotations necessary to cover Rivers still suffering the OP and Bode (WTF).

Someone else apart from Bell would too have been good.

This is vile finishing aside.

Moloney wasnt good IMO. Spent the entire day starting fights rather than actually getting the pill

Bate had a shocker, was as you said, coached out of the game and seemed to be out of position. Bartram was no good either, he has poor decision making.

Our backline was very good, held up well. Great to see Garland come back from what many thought was a hopeless case to be a very important defender.

Exactly Dunn beat Swan, Bate needed to be moved to full forward.

White kept tapping backwards even into the corridor on the pies forward line!!!! WHO'S FREAKING IDEA IS THAT!!!!!

I have been banging on for a while now(to deaf ears), that Dunn is being played as a tagger, and therefore has set a role by the coaches and should be judged accordingly.

He beat Swan today, did alright on Hayes last week and will continue to get stopping roles because that is obviously a role Bailey has earmarked for him, and one which our team needs.

It appears not everyone has figured out what his role is, and are judging him too harshly believing he is not getting enough the pill or kicking bags of goals.

Have I said he was crap ? Have I said he had no potential ? Have I said he's not going to be a 200 game player ? Have I said he hasn't shown some terrific form ?

I doubt there's any rational supporter who could say Morton's game hasn't ( understandably ) deteriorated from his early outstanding displays .

Bate - what was that?

Bell - absolutely positively awful

Bode - not AFL standard

Garland - most improved 2008?

Johnson - doesn't tap advantageously

Jones - please practise kicking

Morton - not his best

Sylvia - goal-kicking a worry

Wonaeamirri - best first-year player?

Yze - too damn selfish

Can't be bothered with the rest.

Agree with most of the assessments on here though I reckon people are tough on jones. He got caught once from memory as he was kicking and his decision making and disposal looked great to me. i thought he was our 2nd best midfielder and was tough and creative.

Agreed, Jones and Mclean fought so hard today they will be a feared combo in years to come. But what was with johnsons taps he knocked it straight to collingwood advantage too many times too count?

noticed that too. he actually got a lot of clean hitouts that landed straight into the arms of a pie. I would imagine that is something that they will have to work on with PJ and the onballers.

Yze - selfish & poor decisions

A bit harsh on Ooze.

I thought he he ran hard, attacked the ball, got plenty of it and found teammates on frequent occasions. Also some good passes into the forward line. The only blemish I could see was some poor finishing.

Morton would be disappointed with his performance.

Two easy goal opportunities wasted in the first half that really cost us momentum. Still, he's a kid and he'll get better.

Don't know who No. 5 for Collingwood is, but they gave him the right number.

He didn't get a 'hard ball' all day and was doing a lot of circle work receiving, just like the last bloke to wear it!

He was playing as a tagger last year as well Jerry and I thought did a very good job. He's been servicable thus far, even playing as a tagger he still needs to be able to find more of the ball himself. He kicked a good goal today, but when he was switched forward he really needed to present a stronger option. I like him - he's got a big body and moves well, but he needs to start imposing himself more on the game.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
