Garry Lyon has brought up the issue of Melbourne playing the majority of football this year on a Sunday. Every match from round 5 until round 18 is on a Sunday save for Queen's Birthday. Add to that rounds 1, 3 and 22, and we have a total of 15 Sunday matches. Also, of our 11 home matches, 7 are on a Sunday.

What do you prefer?

(Also only one night match this year (Round 19 vs Geelong), but that I guess stems from our performance last year)

Friday night for me, probably .1 ahead of saturday arvo.

From a personal perspective, I enjoy the atmosphere at night games, but for some reason saturday day games just feel right.

My preference goes saturday day, , friday night, saturday night, then anything sunday.

Sunday games also get a lot less coverage in media beforehand, and are lower-volume time solts on television.

From a club perspective, it would be great to have even our away games get the occassional prime-time exposure, no?

From a superstition perspective, our two good games this year (freo and the Hawks) were both broadcast free-to-air in Melbourne, on seven. So we should probably try to get seven to show as amny of our games as possible. ;)

Hey, how 'bout that, next week's game agains the saints is on seven...

I think the best scenario for all would be play home games against other Victorian teams on either Friday, Saturday (day or night) or Monday (Queen's Birthday).

Play home games against interstate teams on Sundays.

It's a win, win, win for the fans, club and the TV broadcasters alike.

Who knows, Sunday games might eventually end up being played at Casey Fields.

Go Dees - building for the future.

I know I'm in the minority, but, Sundays suit me perfectly. I play tennis on Saturday.

I'm a bit old school...love the Saturday afternoon match and reading the newspaper reports over Sunday Brunch.

Would also like it if the Sandy games to be on a different day to the MFC game, especially when we are interstate!

Didn't vote as I prefer a mixture.

Sundays are pretty ideal for me however I am probably in the minority of supporters that live 10 minutes from the G and don't have kids to cart around all weekend so I support whatever day suits the majority and in turn benefits MFC the most.

Friday night & Saturday arvo definetly have a better atmosphere and generally mean more people through the gates which is best for the MFC.

I think all we can ask for is a good balance of each, which we are definetely not getting at the moment.

I don't mind Sunday afternoons, but I think we may have too many this year. A mixture would be great, so a lot more people can come to the games.

I'm with you there.

I do miss going to the odd Fri night game.

A mix is essential for all suporters to see their team. Unfortunately the AFL is driven by the networks and stronger clubs and couldn't give a flying you know what about the fact that its draw is unequitable and unfair.

Yeah I've pretty much been able to go to every Sunday game (in Victoria) this year cos I play sport on Saturday, but I'd be more than happy for us to have more Saturday or Friday games if it means we get bigger attendances...

If I didn't work Saturdays I'd say Friday night followed by Saturday afternoon, but Sundays are the best for me as I can get to every game.

Will be quitting my job soon (Hopefully) though so Saturday afternoon games will be back on :) .

I like the Sunday games - even though kids have early morning sport, we sill get there.

The cost of a train ticket is only $3.00 - so that means $12 for my family. Is about $30 any other day.

Considering $1:50 per litre and $8 parking if I was to drive (would use the car on Friday/Saturday nights games), this makes it much, much more affordable. Can't see why Connex can't make Saturday fares cheap too.

We should go hard and make Thursday or Monday our night.

Only case it helps me to go. And T.V would be good.

That Friday night game on August 8 versus the Cats is actually acknowledging the date of the football match between Melbourne Grammar and Scotch College which was played on August 7, 1858 and which is, erroneously, called the "first" game of Australian Rules football.

Our match is being promoted as being part of the Tom Wills round, and features us and Geelong as the two oldest clubs in the competition - both clubs linked to Wills. The two schools are playing the curtain raiser on the MCG in the afternoon.

That's a good point: for some getting to the ground can be expensive and difficult. Like the idea of cheaper Saturday tickets.

I'm just glad we got recognised by the AFL.

I'll go see Melbourne play no matter what day the game is on, however Friday night is excellent for students who work (and do all their assignments ;)) on weekends. On families and working people it can be hard though, especially if you do not work in the city and you have to rush to the game.

Saturday night is also good, however you're eliminating a lot of kids that way, and in-turn their parents too.

At the end of the day everyone has a particular preference for a particular need. We can't please everyone, but a better balance between Saturday and Sunday, Night and Day games would help us a lot.

Personally playing mostly on the same day is great for me, as I can schedule my roster around it, but Sunday is traditionally family day so if you are not blessed with a family of Melbourne fanatics, or you have kids who play sports, it can be very difficult juggling.

My poor imaginary kids will never have a social life if we keep playing Sunday games :P

Saturday arvo is the best, best when u have a great win, and get smashed to celebrate that win and have a whole day to recover! :)

I have already addressed this in another thread

For the exact same reasons as the great man Garry Lyon has stated, SUNDAY"S are useless to me.

Prefer Friday Nights, followed by Saturday Arvo & or Nights.

I Love The Dee's & this 2008 fixture is inflicting a great deal of hurt on myself & 1000's of other's with

Sunday Junior Sporting Commitments.

This must be addressed in 2009

We've played Sunday's for years. Doesn't it stem back to a request from Diamond Joe?

Give me Saturday arvo anytime!

Only 15% want Sunday. Point made!

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
