Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I know it is probably a bit early for this thread so feel free to keep venting, but I thought I would highlight the following for some perspective.

Total games played:

Oliver - 47

Salem - 56

Petracca - 50

Hogan - 63

Brayshaw - 45

O Mac - 49

Lever - 67

Like it or not, the reality is these guys are inexperienced and will be inconsistent - aside from the freak that is Clarry.  We could fluke a flag in the next 2 years but going by past trends, we should be a consistent strong team from around 2 years time when our talented core is around 100 games.  Just look at our main consistent performers: Gawn (86 games), Jetta (128) and T Mac (133)

Collingwood should be performing better, their best players are all in the sweet spot of experience and that experience showed yesterday.

All is not lost, we just need to keep improving.  Beat port and get the season on track again.

The late Dean Bailey said (paraphrasing liberally) that, for success, a team needs to play at least 70 games together as a group.

Brendan McCartney believes that it takes 5 years to make a complete AFL standard footballer.

As long as we can keep this group together,  I reckon that 2020 is the year when both threads come together.

I am prepared to be patient even though I have been waiting since 64.

Forget this common sense and logic, Deelanders demand success now the fact the current build started in 2013 is irrelevant to them

Haven't you heard

54 years of mediocrity

186 loss to the Cats

Jones isn't a leader

Toumpas over Wines

Clarrie over Parish (after the Round 2, 2016 loss)

Jetta was a dud and should have been delisted

Omac. see above

I could go on but those with some forsight can see the pieces coming together. No quick fix, still some bumps to come

what point are you making here?

it's pages of negatives after this loss but we still manged to score 91 points by kicking 14 goals 7 behinds so that is a positive to take out of it.

my point is that our best players and core group that will eventually be our best chance of success are all around the 50 game mark.  Inconsistency is to be expected once we are improving overall. I'm telling myself this so I don't get too angry about yesterday!

we are set up for success much more than the pies in my opinion. their defence is poor and they lack tall fwds.

Agree. And we felt we got belted !!!

We are lauded as a VG Contested ball side. We moved into next step recently by moving ball away i.e. clearances per Gus and Salem.  The time is to expand it against good sides playing well.

Need to spread from see ball get ball to see ball( viney, Oliverl get ball (Oliver, Jones) , use ball (Salem, Brayshaw).

The sky is the limit !!!

He adapted and took on a new role and has thrived.

Jetta was never a dud or they wouldn't have re listed him as a rookie.

Always played with hardness and discipline

Jordan Lewis put things into perspective when he said sides learn more from losses than from wins. He also mentioned that the Hawks lost a few games by ten goals just before finals when they won flags.

Have faith, my friends, we have lost one game in the past seven. Yes, Collingwood wiped us, but as Tom Mc said, it could have been, and was very often, worse.

There is a great saying in literature, Homer nods...

Other clubs will note that applying ‘full court press’ will lead us to crumble like little boys.. we’ve done it for years , and nothing shown this year yet has proved otherwise

That’s the journey the players and coaches are on, how do we break those shackles when teams bring the pressure like the Pies, Tigs and Hawks brought to bear. We haven’t cracked the code yet but on the weekend, for the first 3 qtrs I felt like we were close to doing so.

More lessons learnt and work to be done, let’s hope they apply themselves to the task.

Fully agree. Speaking a hawks supporter who says d hawks at same stage we’re still getting panced weekly.

The key for me is finding solid replacements for the older boys. Mature age types 24-27 to come in and take over from Vince etc.

next year will be our year! As long as hogan stays. If not we will take freos 1st rounder 2nd rounder and a player of note.

still think weeds can be the key forward!

Yes Jetta a dud. All Australian squad last year and likely in all Australian team this year. If we had 27 other duds like him .......

we are a better team than last year and these young guys will get better

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
