  2. This shows the underlying problem at Casey and Melbourne. We clog up our forward line - but are hopeless at getting it to a free to a player for a shot. We leave lots of space over the back - but dont run both ways or have the legspeed to manage. There are some serious issues with the gameplan and the personnel asked to play it at both levels. Manic pressure by hawks last week, Tigers 2nds this week brought it all undone. Clog it up in our forward line and run the other way fast and you cut the demons open. Seems like an easy game plan to beat. Until we get personnel that can find the loose man outside, Have players that are fast enough the other way, and we can sustain intense pressure, we have (and will have) plenty of problems.

  3. All a North victory will show us is that this season is even, unpredictable and if you don’t bring your best sustained effort, you’ll get rolled. Plenty of upsets in every round so far this year...

  4. U at the game ? He has booted 4 and marked everything come his way. Had goal assists too. Stupid comment

  5. People on here say he brings pressure and tackling, but I barely see it. Diabolical kick for goal and just all round poor skills. I'd rather we develop Hannan as the pressure high half forward. At least we know he can kick the clutch goals also at the right time.

  6. Fritsch has shown more bravery in the air in four games than Watts has his entire career. If you cannot see this then you should stop watching football.

  7. Today's result doesn't say much about our performance last week. It says more about the competition. Carlton and St Kilda are bottom 4 sides but pushed the top 2 sides on the ladder. More than half the league has a 3-2 record. If we win, only percentage will separate 3rd and 13th. Hawthorn didn't play their best today and got spanked. Same deal with us last week. Same deal with North the week before. If you don't play at 100% intensity each week, you risk being beaten by any opponent.

  8. Pedo should have been playing for the MFC. Stupid non selection will cost us Tues night.

  9. Tom Mitchell just got told he wasn't allowed to do it in the game vs North. Rules vary on a week-to-week basis in the AFL.

  11. I know this was wishful thinking but I was really hoping we wouldn't have Jack Watts filtering (in some cases dominating discussion) through posts this year. He's been done to death since before coming to the club and now he's gone it's probably a good time to let it all go and move on.

  12. LOL you guys are obsessed. He's one of their highest disposal winners. Been involved in a lot of plays. Covered a lot of ground. Has quick hands and decision making. Been asked to swing across half back and the forward line. Laid some tackles. Landed a huge bump in a recent passage of play. But yeah because he's not Dangerfield he's a spud who should be in a dress. And we're still paying for him! Good thing we got rid of him so we can make way for hard nuts like..Bugg and...you know...all those other amazing half forward talls we have in our line up.

  13. I hope Stretch gets a go. At least he can use the ball and runs to spread.

  14. Saty in fairness I don't think you will see much if any complaint about Casey's overall performance on this thread. There was a comment on the game plan by one or two that is a different matter. Just very few positives unfortunately and those that were there have been mentioned by several posters.

  19. Bingo. However, North don't have two joggers in the backline who can't run, they don't have players who have no football skills, they nail their set shots, they are spreading and not allowing the Hawks to shepherd the mark and also making each Hawk accountable for a player and they never all run to the forward 50 leaving no one between the pack and the opposition goals. They are also able to pass a football properly. Pretty simple really.

Those who can, do Those who can't, teach Those who can't teach, coach Those who can't coach, analyse Those who can't analyse, seek to understand Those who can't understand, commentate Those who can't do, teach, coach, analyse, understand, or commentate, are recruited by the AFL umpires department. They may just have what it takes to be an AFL umpire.

  21. Miles took on a tackler...beautiful tackle.....drops ball. Play on. Umpires refuse to pay against the Toiges more often than not! Awful

  22. Apart from Pedders working for it, our big men do not take enough marks around the ground to provide any relief against the tide and are too easily pushed off the ball. No physical presence. No big grabs. Hannan good early but two turnovers looking to go inside this quarter. Bugg a horrid one in the first. Nice work from Munro, Spargo and JKH for the finish there for the goal against the run.

  23. Bugg, Pedo, Hannan at Casey. Can’t see Vince, Weid, Wagner, Garlett or Fritsch

  27. We shouldn’t get too smug about Watts. He’s had more marks, kicks, handballs, goals and tackles that Fritsch this year. And it’s not as though our astute recruitment of Lever is reaping us any rewards at this stage. If he left us, as many of his former teammates have done, for more money or success, then let him have it. But he fought to stay. Not sure why this thread becomes the Jack Watts bashing thread every week..? I wish him the best, but he’s a Port player. Time to move on.

  28. It's frustrating knowing what some of these kids can do, but seeing the roles they're being asked to play. Spargo is playing as a target like he's a FF. Baker's being given no opportunity to run. Coach them to their strengths, surely.

  29. Good to see Casey replicate the MFC's game from last week. At least the msg was clear this week.

  36. Well I don't care what anyone thinks but Watts tonite showed why he wasn't wanted at Melbourne. Half hearted was the term used in the commentary box I think.

  37. The only way to stop Martin is to starve him of it the MFC have to hunt the ball themselves.

  38. Great. Let's have 4 blokes tackle him, let the ball squeeze out and have 3 Richmond blokes on their own.

  39. I got down to training this morning for an hour. It was a beautiful morning for it, if a little dewey which caused some handling issues. I spoke to Brendan McCartney briefly and he said the mantra this week was ‘Get in and bang some bodies’. Ben Matthews took the session. Here are some observations: - A few of the Casey lads were running when I got there. They play tomorrow so it was only the senior squad that was training today. -T-Mac did the majority of the session with the main group. The big fella looked fantastic and can’t get be too far away. -Jack Viney is moving well. Straight line sprints, lateral movement stuff, kicking in boots over distance. -Forgotten man Aaron vandenBerg was moving as well as I have seen him for a long time. He can’t be too far away from joining the main group either. -Sam Frost was training with the re-hab group. I’m not too sure why. -Jordy Lewis’ hand was heavily bandaged. He was the chief mover of the witches hat. -Hunt, Stretch, Tyson, Tim Smith and Weideman all trained today with last week’s team. There was no Bugg so I assume he has been dropped and will play tomorrow? I assume we’ll have two or three carry over players who will not play tomorrow and will be emergencies for the senior team. -No Balic, Hannan, Pedo or Maynard. -It was a spirited session. The boys looked keen for Tuesday.

  40. Oh spare me.. you look at that photo and immediately make the observation that Max is just strolling around? What happens if Lever was put under immense pressure from s handball or kick and had little time to react? Could have been around a stoppage area? Sold into in trouble? Demonland at it's best.
