I'm not sure what's so difficult to understand about managing a first year player's workload. It's obvious Oliver is best 22 on ability, but clearly his tank is inadequate at this stage. It doesn't do anyone any good to burn him out. And surely most posters recognise that from the outside, we are in no position to judge what is an appropriate work load for him. I too am disappointed he's not in, but I just have to trust the judgement of those in charge. It would be silly to think that I know better.12 points

In: Petracca Out: Brayshaw No Oliver is a disappointment.10 points

I know some posters have had a crack at Dave Mission and the fitness staff at times on here, but hats off to them this year! we have what 2-3 genuinely injured players? JKH, King and Vanders is sort of injured sort of having a break? How many teams enter round 6 with say 41 of 44 players basically ready to go? bloody good position to be in10 points

Just added 3 more. Renewed myself and my two boys. Go Dees!!10 points

He went well, and handled Slobbo's questioning like a public toilet door [censored]. Slobbo "So Maxxy, What would you do if you didn't play AFL??" Gawn "Well i ..." Slobbo interrupts "I bet you go to South East Asia, yeah that's what you would do, that's what I'd do." Gawn "I would be a pizza delivery driver, I worked at Dominos" Slobbo "Were you fat" Gawn "Yeah, I ate a whole pizza a shift." Robbo is an utter mong of a host.. he had every option to discuss topics that could let people who are not Dees supporters, know more about him. But Slobbo wanted to talk about South East Asia and being Fat... And that is the type of person who I picture this dullard to be. A drunk fat guy in a Lady Boy Club, oiling himself up for his next adventure. Well done Max.10 points

The public school v private school comment was funny. According to Max there's only 5 players on our list educated in the public system including Col Garland 'coz there's no private schools in Tasmania'.10 points

So I suggest you email the club and tell them they know diddley squat about sports science and player management and offer them your services. I am sure Misson will get you onboard immediately.9 points

The term "not impressed" tends to suggest that he thinks he's being hard done by. I could understand if he's disappointed, because most players are when they're dropped. But his form to date doesn't warrant being "not impressed".8 points

Very relaxed session from what I saw. CP5 was up and about and you couldn't wipe the smile off his face. The kid is a massive unit with calves on him like tree trunks. Skills weren't at their best even though the conditions were reasonably good. Plenty of joking and mucking about amongst the group which is nice to see. Watts, Hoges and Frost were all put through a drill by Rawlings. One on one with a quick push off and then running back toward goal and into space. Hoges was a standout at this. It was good to see Dawes back and participating in match sims, although to be honest he did look to be blowing pretty hard at the end of the sims and looks to be quite a few weeks off match fitness. Towards the end of the main session a bunch of the guys went head to head in a goal kicking contest from acute angles. As has been mentioned the Casey guys stayed out and continued with match sims. Given the light nature of todays session I wouldn't read to much into either Oliver or Matt Jones being amongst that group. Took some photos of todays session. http://imgur.com/a/oQZk78 points

We won't see all of Brayshaw Oliver and Petracca in the team at the same time this year I would say. None of them can run out games and the team can't carry 3 players only doing 65% game time.6 points

I wanted Oliver in, he's not in, and I couldn't give a [censored].6 points

I wish you would give it a rest, carry on like a petulant child every Thursday night! Fwiw I am disappointed Oliver misses, but I now have faith that we know what we're doing.6 points

There was a bit on ch 10 over here last night about Hooker, McCarthy and Hogan but the kids were screaming so I didn't hear it. But honestly, if Hogan leaves us for Freo I would be gobsmacked. Lyon has proved once again he is a coach who rides in on the coat tails of previous coaches development Proceeds to decimate the list whilst chasing a flag Freo's list is full of only average players that can't execute an attacking game plan (Jesse would love that reduction inside 50's I bet) Bennell can't get on the park Neale probably leaving Walters the only decent small forward Fyfe doubtful Fortnightly travel I could go on but if you care to reflect these items against what we have to offer and include his desire to be a great player in a team with so much potential for success well, I consider it'd be an extremely dumb decision for him to leave.6 points

Thought you'd never ask! Cameroon has over 300 different cultural groups, so technically they don't have a national costume as such. However, in international events they generally adopt the costume of the area around Bamenda, the largest city in the English-speaking part (Cameroon being, of course, about 70% Francophone & 30% Anglophone). Who says DL can't be educational??!!6 points

I'm sure he'll stay as it looks like he is really enjoying himself at the club, but if he did leave I don't think it would be as devastating as I thought it would have been at the start of the year. We've seen how important it is for everyone in the team to be playing good football- with our recent success and Jesse down on form, a team can do just as well perhaps even better with an even contribution as opposed to relying on one dominating forward. It's about getting the mix right and as it stands right now Jesse's importance lies in drawing the best defender each week, while the role players are free to do what they like.6 points

So what's he most looking forward to? His first kick? First effective possession? First score involvement? First goal? First specky??? NO!!! This is what he says ... “I can’t wait to get out there and get a first tackle and really play to be honest." Just gotta love this kid!6 points

I had small stoush on air with Brian Waldron on SEN about this and then we punched on off air ! He suggested exactly the same as Age and I pointed out that is was not the initial shove - this was the grappling straight afterwards. He then said I can't have it both ways - it is high contact. Off air I asked him some questions - when two players grab each others jumpers - where do the grab ? he conceded around the collar. I then asked when they push and shove where are their hands ? He asked for my answer and I said - they are high like Vineys are - but i said he has missed the most important point - the pushing and shoving and show of strength does not have the strength like a punch. It has insufficient force. I pointed out that the picture he is looking at was something that goes on every week ! He then said "I know what I see in that picture". I said " obviously you don't or you wouldnt have passed of that picture on air as the initial contact" He then said " You can't convince me" I said "I can't convince you because you are looking at a still picture instead of the TV footage of the incident. I also can't convince you because you are a giant knobhead" and then i put the phone down. A bit childish i know but i felt much better.6 points

I'm very happy to see that Christian Petracca has been selected to play for the Demons against the Saints this Saturday but I really do think that the hype and adulation which makes him out to be our saviour is way over the top. As a long time supporter, I've seen many saviours come and go at Melbourne and most have disappointed us mightily. I remember the recruitment of John Tilbrook brought great excitement. He was supposed to be a belated replacement for Ron Barassi and when he ran out for his first game against South Melbourne at VFL Park Waverley, the barrel-chested Tilbrook looked like Superman without the cape and the red underparts. His first kick travelled 70 metres in the wet. He kicked two of the team's seven goals that day and Lou Richards labelled him "Diamond Jim". Alas, although he played a few more good games, he ended up a fizzer and the critics were calling him "Diamonte Jim". There have been many others. I remember a player drafted in the late 80s, Rod Keough, who had the Barassi look about him and showed some early promise but as hard as he tried, he couldn't even establish himself as a regular in the team. And look at all the others who we thought would save the club. Perhaps it was the club or the coaches who fostered the saviour mentality but I don't believe that is the case with the current administration and coaches and I hope that CP5 can play out career and be as good or as great as possible without the weight of expectation we have unfairly placed on the others?5 points

One of Wagner or Hunt would still be at Casey if we had Melksham.5 points

I haven't seen any of the saviour mentality- just excited to see another promising kid come into the team5 points

Demons don't need saving. There was a time we did. Then Jack Viney arrived. Culture changer.5 points

While the momentum is there, this post is merely to keep this thread at the top of the first page to motivate my fellow Demonlanders!5 points

Pedersen only has 56 games but he's 29 years old. His scope for further development is limited, not withstanding his low game count. Stop-gap player. I like him and think he'll spend most of this year in the team, but if he makes it to 100 games it's either a fantastic effort, or something has gone very wrong with our developing players (the Kings, Hulett, Weideman etc).5 points

I think a lot of these people are just making educated guesses that Jesse is a good player from Perth who plays for Melbourne so that means he'll leave. It's rubbish, I think Jesse will stay he's a very old fashioned loyal guy who knows very well the massive investment and loyalty the MFC has shown him already and i think he's desperate to repay that, and that's why he gets so frustrated on the field at times, because he wants the team to win, just hates losing. if for whatever reason he does leave we will ask for massive compensation and welcome Weiderman into the forward line who is a very impressive young talent.5 points

Webster towelled up Garlett twice last year from memory. Garlett, Kent and Kennedy is a different story though, the chemistry amongst those 3 has been amazing, like they've played together for years. Add in Petracca and it's a quick, powerful and crafty bunch to stop. Get it down there like we have been and we should kick a winning score.5 points

Before the game last week Max took the time to walk around the fence and take photos with fans and sign autographs. He was the only player I saw do it before the game. Top guy5 points

Maybe he needed an actual proper rest? He's an 18 year old kid in his first year of senior footy who played 7 games of senior footy in a row, including a limited pre-season.4 points

I don't see this at all with Petracca, most people are struggling to find players to drop so that he can be brought in.4 points

These stats are a nonsense as so much of disposal efficiency depends on where and how you play. Jones and Vince play inside games - so their D/E would always be a little lower than Dunn for example who gets his D/E number up as the backline switches and chips and that is an easy kick. Watts has definitely improved his contested ball which would lower his D/E as he is kicking more balls with heat on. To me you should judge disposal efficiency with your eyes rather than stats - Watts is a great kick as is Dunn and Salem. Jones has become much more reliable over the journey and Vince is also good by foot ( with the very rare fluff). To back up this argument you only need to look at Tom McDonalds D/E of 81% and tell me who you would prefer to have disposing the ball - McDonald or Watts ?4 points

He stayed on after all others had left with a couple of trainers, and ran laps last Wednesday, great to c that sort of hunger in a Melb player whoever it is.4 points

Mate nothing wrong with the interview at all. Robbo and Gerard have never met him and many of us actually actually never knew his background as a teenager. What i got out of that is how hard he has had to work on his professionalism. Its a credit to him. Everyone in the AFL industry is intrigued by big Max and we love him . He knows the up and downs of being an AFL player so i have no doubt it will hold him on a good stead.4 points

Drop him, wow. Come on. Gawn on 360 said the pushing wasn't on and Bugg apologised accordingly. On the showboating he said he doesn't mind it, it's who Bugg is and the way he plays. Watching our players around Bugg when he's running his mouth, they love it. Kent looked like he's front row at a comedy show. He's obviously bringing enthusiasm and his own style to the team and it's working. He can be sloppy with his touches, but let's not pretend he's a complete hack either, gets the ball and does some good things with it and he tackles like a mad man. He copped a fine and issued an apology, no need to drop him. Interestingly he was going to cop the boos this week anyway, Saints supporters hate him for his hit on Nick Riewoldt, it'll be even more amplified after the weeks events. Hope he snags another and shooshes them with a full lap.4 points

Hi. I got 2 mates at work who are Demons supporters to join. They haven't joined up for the last 2 years. They can see the light in the team and the feeling is positive. New Balance discount was 70% !!! they are getting the MFC jumper for $40 !!4 points

Yep Uncle Bitter had the inside on this. Spoke to him outside the Jim Stynes bar pre the Richmond game. The really exciting aspect was his comment that " I want to be a part of this". It seems the club has turned around and the players are on board for the journey.4 points
