  1. The best bit Don't know what level of maths Mark Robinson made it to but that sounds like a good deal to me.

  2. Introducing Dom Tyson, Bernie Vince & Viv Michie.

  3. Yeah, Vince is ours. Michie, Vince, Tyson, pick 9, will really help Viney, Jones, and a hopefully fresh Trengove. Pretty exciting really. A new game plan, confidence in the club's direction, Hogan, a fit Clark and Dawes and we can genuinely start to gather momentum if we kick some early goals. Well done to Mahoney, Roos, etc.

  4. Hawks CEO Stewart Fox: "We believe it is inequitable that compensation is linked to ladder position". I'm sorry, but what a sickening human being. The Hawks front office has been a disgrace in regards to pushing the disequalisation agenda since becoming good again after a drought of irrelevance from 1992-2006. Yes, they've come out of free agency with the worst compensation scenarios the past two years, but if they can't see the bigger picture of the necessity of compensation being linked to ladder position to help lessen the effect of higher-finishing clubs picking the wings off cellar-dwellers year after year, then they're either dumb or incredibly selfish with scant regard for the future good of the competition. And I doubt they got where they are by being dumb. Anyway, with that off my chest, it's a good and fair result for the MFC!

  5. Another way of looking at is: If we rate a kid that we can get at pick 9 as high as Aish, Kelly etc....Matt Crouch springs to mind If this was to be the case, we would effectively be getting Dom Tyson for pick 20 & an upgrade from 74 to 53. Starting to like it a lot now - Great trade MFC

  6. Oh forgive me, I forgot our new machine Michie. Sincere apologies Jaded, but I have an erection.

  7. He suffered a bad knee injury in 2012 which hampered his ability to play this year, but let me tell you this kid is fantastic. Another Oakleigh Chargers boy, who was in the young development squad when I was there he is an incredible inside player. Brilliant inside hands, and whilst not an enormous body a fantastic core that makes him look like he's always in control. Judd-like in the instance of being not enormously big, but looks completely comfortable on the inside. He would have played one year with Viv Michie too, which who knows if that had any influence. I too agree I would've loved to keep pick 21.. But to get upgrade 20 to 9, which should see us net Nathan Freeman *touchwood* this is going brilliantly. Just to recap this is who is coming to our club.. Jesse Hogan.... A ready to fire Viv Michie Pick 3 Dom Tyson The 9th best player in the country this year With potentially Vince, Cross or someone else to come, this team is turning around. And fast.

  8. Hi Demonlanders, I've just moved recently from Toowoomba QLD to Melbourne. I have been listening to triple m which has been great. I came across another station SEN.....what is it with the guy called Greg Denham or what ever his name is. What is his problem with the demons? He has a dig every opportunity he gets. Is this standard of him. It really [censored] me off after a while and I had to turn it off. I love my demons so much that I would knock this guy out if I got the chance........please tell me he is not always like that. That's my Friday rant. By the way I love melbourne and can't wait for my membership to arrive. Can't wait to watch the demons in 2014 and beyond.....carn the demons

  9. Bernie Vince for Col Sylvia, we've definitely come out ahead IMO. If we manage to land Cross (still on the market?) as well then we will have achieved almost a complete midfield transplant. Very pleased with the trade period.

  10. I hear he's a closet meth addict, so forget about him... Also kicks puppies and plays violent video games.

  11. "We believe it is inequitable that compensation is linked to ladder position," says Hawks chief executive Stuart Fox. How on earth did this man's boss get involved with the AFL's equalisation junket? First they complain loudly about Melbourne receiving draft assistance after achieving only five wins in two seasons and now they reckon they are getting dudded by getting pick 19 for a bloke they couldn't persuade to stay at home after giving eight years of service. And let's not forget, this is a player who might not have been a Hawk had they not received a priority pick for winning five games in the year he was drafted. And the AFL never bothered to investigate whether what they did that year was legit or not. It's quite plain that Hawthorn cares only about Hawthorn and not the competition as a whole. I don't know if any of the participants on that junket were subsided by the AFL but if was any integrity left at the place, it would demand a refund from these whinging hypocrites.

  12. You can't just write off pick 9. Carlton gave up 3, 20 and Kennedy, and got Judd. They lost a first round and second round pick, plus a player. We gave up 2 and 20, and got Tyson and 9. We lost only a second round pick (still have a first round pick, and didn't lose any players). Completely different.

  13. It's a phenomenal get. Tyson is a monumental talent and has been in the system for a while. I rate him higher than Shiel and we've still got pick 9 for another great mid in the draft (hopefully). Great result MFC.

  14. Just a few things I've heard around the traps. 5 or 6 contracted Melbourne players had meetings with Roos where he stated he would actively seek a trade for them if deals could be worked out would they be open to leaving. Unable to get any names on who but connecting dots and knowing they have to be under contract you could probably work it out if you had the time. Understanding Shiel was initially quite confronted by all the attention around him being traded. GWS trying to cool him down but home calling his name. MFC first day were 3% now in his mind easily 40-50%. Could go either way for him, but GWS also need to be satisfied which could provide a concern. I'd only heard of 2 clubs bidding for our pick 2 (not the 5 reported yesterday) but it was obviously GWS and also Port Adelaide. Lyons has little or no interest in coming to us due to settling down in Adelaide with new girlfriend I presume. Vince super keen on leaving Adelaide and it seems Adelaide are happy to move him on. Surprised we're paying pick 20 by all reports. Thought 36 could do it. Brisbane midfielder Ryan Lester was looked at as an ex Melbourne boy but Brisbane steming the bleeding on everything they can at this point. Collingwood super keen on few players I'd consider earlier than their picks 11,12 so may try and package to move up. Wasnt surprised to hear them going for pick 6. From the draft board, Freeman shot up some boards and was interviewed by a view clubs higher than expected by him and his party. Scharenberg and billings both didn't do any activities due to injuries and the latter has concerns which may see him fall considerably ala Grundy last year. Kelly interviewed well. That is not from MFC camp so can't say if he interviewed from us well, or even at all. GWS, Brisbane, Western bulldogs and another club also scouted Michie, who ultimately decided he wanted to come to us. As this final week heats up you do occasionally get some juicy stuff sadly so far not much, but will keep ears pricked.

  15. He'll probably play more games than Maric, Blease, Strauss, Tapscott and Gysberts! And if we don't start winning games in the next 24 months then what does it matter no one will play 100 games for us again! Vince for 23 isn't great. Vince for Sylvia is pretty good

  17. Dom Tyson is quality. If he can stay fit and on the park, it's a great choice. The interesting thing coming from the Tyson and Michie gets, and the off field recruits (Stone, Miller ....) is the investment in culture. Dom Tyson was a uniquely impressive character for his age when I had contact with him 2 years ago (and I can tell you will be rapt to come home) and according to some of of the reports on here about Michie, he has a great rep also. When you think of the character of Nat Jones, Jack Viney, Jacks Trengove and Grimes, and Jimmy Toumpas from the midfield alone, I think there's as much an effort to build culture and ethic at the 'New Roos Dees', as there is to recruit talent and plug holes. We can see what you're doing Paul Roos, and we LIKE it! :-)

  18. I could not be more proud of the MFC. We are in one of our worst periods of our history and within the football community we are seen as poison. The club required a person to sell the club and turn it around. In came PJ and the flow ineffective was getting Roos to the club. As good as Roos is, even with him the club is a hard sell. With this in mind, IMO this trade period is a massive success. To some Michie may be seen as a minnow and maybe he is. But, within the footballing community he is seen as a massive talent. Free wanted him so did a few other clubs. He choose the Dees for some obvious reasons. He wanted time playing in a midfield role at a club he knew would give him opportunities. Regardless, he saw us as a club of choice. His manager said he wanted to play under Roos. The club threw out pick 2 to clubs to a top line midfielder at the right age. Shuey and Rockcliff were seen as the type of player we wanted. Realistically these types of player very rarely leave their club. What came out of this strategy was many options and the club picked Tyson because he is a potential top line player and we still get a very good 1st round pick. By all reports Freeman is a player that Roos has his eye on. In 2009 the club stuffed up it first round pick. Cook was a disaster. In 2010 the club traded out its first round pick. That's two years of not getting in top juniors. IMO that's the equivalent of what the Crows and the Bombers are currently experiencing with their sanctions, and what Carlton experienced with their sanctions A big win for our club. Last year we got Toumpas, Viney, Barry and Dawes. this year we get Hogan, Tyson, Michie, and what's looks like Vince. We are loading up on talent just as GWS have, and got in some experience

  19. It amounts to trading Sylvia for Vince, no matter where the pick falls now. At worst it is a break even, for me it is a massive win. Come on, hurry up and be official already.

  20. The club must have a pretty good idea who'll be available at pick 9, but on the surface I reckon we've paid overs. Losing pick 20 is the kick in the guts. There have been plenty of guns picked up in the 20+ plus range - Shuey, Beams, Sloane, Redden, etc. etc. Clubs are big on net effect, so they may consider Michie at 54 (we get back 53) as part of that. It at least makes it seem better for me. Supporters on here are so bias they won't be able to fathom that we may have got the lesser outcome, but I'd be very happy if i was a GWS supporter. That said, I'm delighted to get Tyson, Michie, pick 9, who should be a gun, and hopefully Vince. Nathan Jones will be getting far more support than he's used to in 2014 and there is genuine hope as we move forward. the team on paper at least will start looking bloody good. Fan, your lovechild won't be getting a game next year.

  21. Sorry, but using Pick 9 for Vince would be nothing short of insane. He's 28 ffs.

  22. Equating Judd and Tyson is any way also means you're also equating: Kennedy with pick 72 and pick 9 with pick 36 (53 and 54 cancel each other out)

  23. I like that this came somewhat from the blue and wasn't leaked by all and sundry (apologies to angrydee), which has been the habit of the MFC in recent years. Roos and Jackson keep a tight ship.

  28. Why are we acting all indignant about Hawthorn only acting in the interests of Hawthorn? All clubs argue the point that serves themselves, that's the nature of any heavily regulated business. I'd expect nothing less from the MFC if we were in the same boat.

  29. Out of interest run me through Dawes' injury history at Collingwood and how it relates to his soft tissue injuries at Melbourne, which I think were caused by an increase in fitness training due to him reverting from ruck/deep forward back to his more suited role as a lead up high motor forward. Or how Clark's freak lisfranc injury is related to some other collision injuries he had at Brisbane. Same with Michie, his foot injuries were behind him. Plenty of AFL players have foot injuries, just this year alone with he Jamar, Evans and Trengove. We've had Garland before. They do recover if managed well. Tyson's PCL was a one of injury as well. Of course every knee injury adds up but he's not Joel Selwood. At the end of the day Tyson and Michie probably came cheaper because they didn't get game time due to injury but that shouldn't be a representation of their talent and I wouldn't necessarily label them injury prone.

  31. Mahoney on SEN. First option find a midfielder and stay in the top 10. Frustrating due to taking time with what deals will come forward. Met with Tyson Wedsneday and put a forward to him on Thursday then decided to come today. Highly rated tall midfielder, AFL career stop start due to injury, massive upside and a tall midfielder to compliment our small midfielders. sees a 10 year midfielder in him. could have a deal straight away once we find out with our compensation pick. will get on the phone straight away to Adelaide was the compo pick comes out. Vince will fill the void for Sylvia, big time player who fill a needs, Vince excited the club and we excited him. Ox gave this a 7/10 in his rating for getting Tyson.

  36. GWS can have Frawley when they hand over Shiel, picks 1, 9, and Scully's ashes. As for Dew, it's hardly a loss if it ensures Roos sees out at least 3 years.

  41. that will spell the end of any equality and be the death of smaller clubs and we will see the same teams in the top 4 and top 8 every single season

  42. Because I'm sure nothing would excite Frawley more than relocating to Western Sydney to play for the only club that has won less game than we have over the past two years. If Frawley ever left it would be for success. That means we'd need to facilitate a trade, and we won't do it unless a star was offered in return. He's stuck with us until he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

  43. Agreed. We are a soft target and will remain so until we win games of footy. And it's hard to complain. Roos has respect, but the MFC doesn't. Until wins start appearing in the ledger not much will change. Robinson would know less about Michie than us right now, but he's probably fair on Vince. I'm far more excited by Vince, but I wear rose coloured glasses. Although not like some most who post here. The media are like sheep. Footscray was friendless after we beat them at the G. Heat went on MacArtney. He'd gone under the radar but now had a turn. What a difference a few wins make. He and his club are now the flavour of the month. We will be second guessed until we start winning. And if we start winning there will be an article that pieces together in chronicle order how we got things right. and the luminaries that made it happen. Predictable, pedestrian and plain for all to see. It's just the way it is.

  44. Today's update: - Hartlett was never up for trade - St Kilda were very big on Viv Mitchie but the combination of our young list, game time and Paul Roos proved the clincher. - Vince expected the next confirmed deal - Pick 2 trade still a long way from negotiated. Heard some other stuff but I wont post that.
