Lucky enough to have a chat with Dom in the stands before queens birthday game. Concentrating on putting on weight but feels he's gotten stronger and improved his tank even at the cost of a little speed (nb was already elite endurance) was hopeful of a game this year but saw it as development. Commented that he'd already put on 5 kg and it was all very structured and going to plan. Loved playing around Hogan. Asked him what the coaches wanted from him and answer was basically a young Davey, who he obviously loves. I think you blokes smashing him will be pleasantly surprised eventually, but you're all a sick masochistic lot so whatever, this post was for those that actually cared for his thoughts. Edited to make it sound like English.6 points

How about no games in Tassie. The team is called Melbourne and I will leave to you to figure out where it should play.6 points

He's an arrogant [censored]. I'll never forget that day Steven King kicked Jeff White's face in, and Bomber joked that White put his face in the wrong place and deserved to be suspended. At that stage White had been rushed to hospital intesne surgery as his face was caved in. [censored]. There's a reason he's not spoken about in the same vein as Leigh Mathews, Paul Roos, Mick Malthouse etc. It's because even though he coached Geelong to a few flags, it was mainly player driven, and everyone inside the footy world acknowledges this. Then you have the issue of his off field discretions, getting involved with players girlfriends, wives, etc and being out on the [censored] and reportedly experimenting with drugs also. Now he's involved in the Essendon drug scandal too and says he wouldn't go near a Melbourne coaching job on AFL 360 the other night. He wouldn't be welcome here anyway. The guy is a scumbag. I agree with all your comments. I love his effort and he he is a real competitor but yes his kicking is huge issue. In addition to your points i'dd add another dilemma. In his position TMac often has ball in hand deep with the best option switching play to the 'fat' side necessitating a kick across the face of goals. If the target is missed then it usually leads to a goal. TMac has given a few of these up, often because he is so slow to kick and his mechanical kicking style. That's a problem but perhaps a bigger problem is that he might not choose to take that option due to the not unreasonable fear of coughing it up, meaning he takes a worse option and turns back into trouble or goes to the congested side where we have no hope of easily running it of our defense. This exact scenario happened on Saturday. He turned out of trouble and the right play was go across goal to a free man. Risky but it would allowed us to run it out with ease if he had hit his target. He thought about but decided not to take the risk, turned back and kicked it down the members wing into congestion where the saints had the numbers. The Saints won the ball and brought it straight back in for a goal. Even if they hadn't got the goal it would have been really hard for us to get it past their press. He has to learn how to hit that target, and he might as well practice at every opportunity this year - even if that means coughing it up a few times.3 points

Hope so... Ive seen nothing in his action to warrant that optimism. we have to get it in our heads that OUR players HAVE to able to kick.. So many goals are given to our opposition in clumsy turnovers. POOR kicking is right up there. People may want to stick their heads in the sand but bad kicking kills us.3 points

The issue here is that everyone here (in Tasmania) already barracks for a side. Starting an expansion side here would not have made any sense; the teams that play here now fill the stands, and memberships would simply come at the expense of other clubs. A relocation would be even worse; chances of me ever buying a membership of a rebadged Footscray? A Tassie side is a nice idea from a romantic perspective, but makes no business sense whatsoever, so it will never happen.3 points

Got quite excited to see Ling walking away from the Aami Center and past training. Even more so when he walked around the oval and watched training from near Richmond station end. Went and got a pic with him to make her Geelong relos jealous and couldn't help myself throwing in line about how this will send rumour mill into overdrive, he commented how he has recently started doing some work with Jack Trengove and Jack had asked him to come along to check out training. Spoke very highly of Jack. Would love to see him at the club a lot more!2 points

Matt does a great job. He is there to maintain the faith amongst the supporter base. We get enough of the other "stuff" from other media outlets.2 points

Nicholson should be delisted as soon as his contract is up. Magner has definitely earnt his spot in terms of matchday performance, Nicholson hasn't.2 points

Ok, seriously guys, what is going on with Magner? He has limited time while Grimes is out, continually smashes it at Casey, surely he's shown enough form to get a decent crack in our very poor performing midfield? Ridiculous.2 points

But before we do that we might have a pregnant pause, and really think about it.2 points

BRING IT!!! I have been bereft of Hockey and Bball finals as I no longer have foxtel.... I am farken haaannngggiiiiinnnggg out to watch this years race. COME ONE CADEL!!! I think Froome and Sky have it absolutely sown up as Froome has been in great form already. Contador has not been at his peak (gees I wonder why....) and Cadel everything must go right for him, no colds, no virus, no bike issues and issues for Sky/Froome, as I think age maybe be catching up to him, his team mate Tejay might even over take him as the team number 1 during the Tour. Keen to get along to Domestique pop up bar, in Fitzroy at some stage to enjoy it too, might be a tougher ride home....2 points

I had a discussion a couple of days ago with a lawyer who has an interest in this particular part of the law and he was of the view that seemed in accord with 2 above but only in certain cases where a medical practitioner prescribes a formulation to deal with a medical complaint and AOD9064 is used as part of that formula and prepared by a compounding chemist. If that's what was applied as part of a cream prescribed by the club doctor for Jack Trengrove, this was not illegal. It's a different thing in his view, if the substance was directly injected as it was apparently done by Essendon. However, the Bombers argument might well be along these lines - AFL code gives Watson a way out2 points

Because doing their job has nothing to do with their bodies. If it was poor Robbo would've been retired long ago. If you want to performance enhance him he doesn't need peptides just to give up drinking and smoking. It's been a perfect storm that led to this. No AFL club has every systematically doped before so the players were unsuspecting. Dank came from various sporting clubs so he had a degree of trust. Bruce Reid the players trust with their lives. There was at some stage a presentation to the players that all was above board and the consent form sounds like the proof they wanted. All in all the players were duped mightily. It's easily to say how dumb they were in hindsight but now players will be on guard. Before players never had any suspicion that their own clubs would put them at risk. The AFL/Essendon have lined up a few good arguements. 1. AOD isn't actually banned 2. AOD isn't actually illegal it's just a substance not performance enhancing drug therefore like soap or honey it doesn't need to be approved for human use and if they fail 3. The players were duped fine the club and punish individuals but let the playing group off.2 points

It's all to do with pressure and the backline at Melbourne is under heaps of it, once that pressure is taken off and players have more time, their decision making will be better and their skills will improve. I agree we've been poor, but if those around do better, then players like Tommy will look better too.2 points

I hate Essendon as much as the next guy, but if they get pinged it will be an absolute disaster for the AFL. It will have an effect that will be felt across the whole sport.2 points

Almost couldn't think of a better player for Trenners to be talking with at the moment, with all the talk about how he's lost so much of his pace. Considering Lingy wasn't the fastest player going around but was still a great player/captain. Good on him for going out of his way to help a young and upcoming captain of the game. Hopefully see's a bit of himself in young Jack.2 points

I'm loving the fact that we are hearing more and more reports about our players seeking out or being connected with established AFL stars of the past and current day. Trengove speaking to Ling is great. Watts speaking to Jobe Watson is great - and is it just me or has Watts form improved since we heard news of this. I'm not sure if this is being initiated by the club or the players themselves, but it is a great sign of the players being willing to learn and develop, even to the extent of finding good people outside of the club to help them along the way. Despite the manner of the loss against Essendon one great thing I noticed after the game was how Brendan Goddard went straight over to Watts and seemed to have a good conversation, not just a short sharp "bad luck" or "good game" comment. It's just a very positive thing to see amongst all the other crap we read about.2 points

Like your work, McQueen, but disagree on this one. It's about the only thing worth of note on the website. Matt Burgan seems like a really nice guy, but some of the articles on the website are pretty ordinary. The site also suffers from a dearth of content. They need more content like THE CRAIG REPORT IMO. It's simple and easy, but would work better if it ran a little longer. I want to hear a bit more from our coach. It'll take an extra five minutes out of the day. It's important to see what the coaches are defining as competitive efforts and as well as providing supporters a sense of being kept in the loop. I've watched this segment in previous weeks and have agreed with the assessment of former passages. This week I strongly disagree. Sylvia's first effort was half-hearted, the second was alright, but nothing to write home about and then the third is non-existent. They're clearly trying to pump Sylvia up, as you say, RD.1 point

They were questioning lingy about coaching at the mfc on one of the footy shows. Said he would be more then happy to listen to what the mfc have to say and would definetely consider it. Said nothing had been said yet.1 point

I was particularly underwhelmed by Karen Hayes when she "presented" to the members after a game a while back. Not sure what she does around the place - perhaps "strategic consulting" based on the profile, which strikes me as rather tokenistic. That may be completely unfair... I would be in favour of a smaller board moving forward. Incidentally, according to the constitution the number of directors must be >=6 and <=12 edit: typo1 point

I figured some of the rankings here are quite shocking, especially Terry Wallace (the former Tambling selector). Anyway let's start. Dominic SHEED: Is not as good or as high as some consider, good but not a top 3 or 5 pick he will likely end up just outside that. He had a fantastic game against the divion 2 NT with 34 disposals but had a stinker vs the Division 1 Vic Metro. Josh KELLY ran rings around him. James AISH: I find him quite interesting, unfortunately since he was aged 15-16 he has had people label him as the "future number 1 draft pick" which in turn has caught media attention and blinded people's judgements. Without a doubt the kid can play, he has fantastic awareness and moves wonderfully. Although his light frame will be an issue and I can't see him gaining mass anytime soon or quickly after joining an AFL team. I also found it very intriguing that in round 3 of the championships he got tagged out the game, limited to 14 disposals - the 5th lowest for his team. Whilst Luke DUNSTAN went on a contested possessions rampage. Luke DUNSTAN: I won't lie, he is my favorite of the draft. He is already built, tough as nails and will slot perfectly into any AFL midfield. An ideal fit for the dees to improve our contested possession count (excellent partner for Viney too). He moves well and covers the ground nicely, has good hands, is a tackling machine, gets plenty of his own ball generating clearance after clearances. In relation to my top three (for the Dees) I would select DUNSTAN first and throw up between BOYD and AISH at two (if we get a concession pick). DUNSTAN will go in as that contested possession winner, in and under player while Aish would be your dish out I50 bloke (similar to J Kennedy and K Jack of Sydney). As for Boyd I just lick the lips of thinking about him and Hogan, but we already have Dawes, Clark and Watts (if he stays) within that list of tall forwards. At picks 4,5, and 6 I would have KELLY, SHARENBERG, and BILLINGS (no particular order).1 point

As most of us clearly don't know exactly what our List Manager's job description was , we should be careful in criticising. We have someone on here who knows better than most what that was and if he chooses to post we might all have a better understanding of the role. I understand if he chooses not to. For what it is worth I am sorry for Tim that he now needs to find another job and from the little I know, I think he was pretty good at his job. Hopefully he will find another soon. We need to remember that for every person that leaves our club or any club for that matter, they have concerns for their family and themselves as to their futures. It is understandable why delisted footballers, can develop depression etc as a result of suddnely being unemployed, as with other members of the community in the same position. We and I include myself, can be a bit glib over simply getting rid of someone, but there is always a human side to the issue. As far as the List Manager position at the MFC goes, I anticipate PJ sees it being merged with another role.1 point

Watts would be a gun forward with a fully fit Mitch Clark and Dawes. I could see him making the same impact as what Jack Gunston makes at hawthorn.1 point

Surely Magner has to play? What was the point in elevating him and then not playing him despite getting more than 30+ touches for Casey every week.1 point
