I'll be very sorry to see him go if indeed he does so. I can't deny that he has failed to live up to the potential he showed as a youngster, but he just looked so good during those couple of good seasons he had. I know I'm not the only one here who thought we had a genuine star on our hands. The loss of that hope will hurt, even if the reality is that he has never lived up to it.12 points

Who are all of these clowns that join up on this site and immediately start slagging off our players? It seems you only register to put the boot in...11 points

Does anyone else want to see Morton have an uninterrupted run at a Misson preseason? He is just 22.8 points

If they were jokes (and funny ones at that), I might have a laugh, but unfortunately, I don't see too much to laugh at in a post that simply says "bloody hell, I hope this is true" or, "he is from WA. hope this is true and not a cruel joke" - don't know about you, but they didn't exactly have me rolling in the aisles.6 points

Right - enough of the fun and games. Background: I went to the TAB to collect my Saturday winnings and watch the Geelong Cup. On the way back I walked past Cale on the phone. After crossing the road I decided to take a quick pic and put it on Twitter speculating why he was in Subi. Of course lots of people took interest and it snowballed. Now, a few things. - yes it's Cale. Sorry I didn't take the zoom lens to the TAB. I'd like to think I've around Melbourne forums long enough to be trusted. I don't bullsh.t - the MFC twitter crew thought it would be a good social experiment to see how far this would go. We haven't been let down. The 2 threads on Big Footy are, interesting, though I don't like being called a troll. - finally Demon Forever - mate on holiday hey champ? You [censored]5 points

The actions of the club tell me we will be small players at the draft. Pick 49, 63, and 70 are our picks. For Pick 75 to come into play would be astounding: With the way the Primary List stands at the minute we have 1 vacancy. If we elevated Nicho and Evans, took ND4 and Pick 49, brought in zero net palyers in the draft (Pedersen/Ray for Martin/Gys is a wash for example), wanted to keep PSD3 open and sign 1 Delisted FA (as we seem to be keen on considering Rodan was seen at AAMI) we would have to clear 5 players (on top of those gone already: Moloney, Green, Jurrah, and Rivers) to do just that. If we were to use 63, 70, and 75 - we would have to clear 8 players. Bennell, Cook, Bate, Petterd, Davis, MacDonald, Jetta, Batram, Dunn and Bail are OOC. Keep 2 - delete the rest - and Pick 75 might be in the frame. Again, not going to happen, Pick 75 is useless to us. BS trade.5 points

Nothing to worry about. Tippett will be long retired by the time the AFL completes the investigation.5 points

If having a David Rodan, Farren Ray or Cam Pedersen on the list keeps the likes of Jesse Hogan, Dom Barry and Josh Tynan for example out of the team for an extra year or so making them have to work harder to get themselves ahead in the pecking order of these other clubs rejects, well then they've served their purpose in my book. No more gifting young kids games, make them earn it, and the best way to do that is by at least having some solid senior bodies on the list which we don't currently have. I also can't see Mark Neeld playing anyone who is just there for the money and to have a little fun. Think they'd find themselves at Casey quick smart. Lets also not forget the leadership and example that I'm sure Neeld will be looking for these older players to set for our young guns on the training track and on the ground also to set the example for the future. It's not just about winning more games next year. It's about setting standards. Edit: Last paragraph.5 points

I'm sure this must have been posted before: The Puzzling Case of Cale Morton I really am surprised at the apathy - joy even - that I am seeing in this thread. There is no question after his first 2 years he looked like a real goer, when he had 40 out of a possible 44 games to his name. Everyone seems to have forgotten he racked up 97 disposals in 3 weeks in the middle of 2009, and rounded out year with a very healthy average of 23 per game, in a side that got back-to-back spoons. He also showed aptitude as a player inside 50 at both ends of the ground. He then copped a big injury in a praccy match at the start of '10. As mentioned in the article, he has hard a hard set of circumstances so far in his career - what is not mentioned is that he has also had a number of injury problems. The guy is still only 22, that is nothing - there are 15 others between 21 and 23 on the list, by my count at least half of them have done less damage on-field than Cale has. We are trying to develop a unit and his a pick#4 with 5 years experience, he should be persevered with. It would be very poor of us to let him go now, not yet.4 points

you know what will happen if he goes right? he will get big, bulk up and suddenly be awesome. and everyone will wonder why we traded a pick 4 four years down the track for pick 464 points

What a pathetic non-issue. I will however accept the 1998 premiership cup, farcically stolen via Dr McIntyre, as recompense.4 points

On the upside, if we do keep Jordan, the process and scrutiny he's undergone during this period and the rumoured* low offers for his services should provide a rocket of motivation come pre-season. Maybe* the FD is actually giving Gys a month long reality check? *indicates speculation on my behalf and is based on the information I have gleaned from the internet, Stuie.4 points

Herald Sun bloke on Draft Chat can't believe what North is asking for a player they only gave 2 games to. Says they won't play him, but want to play hardball getting rid of him. He was a mature recruit at 25. North at the same time are offering peanuts for Jacobs. They will end up with a reputation like Essendon.4 points

As much as I respect Parko, the experts often don't have a good grasp on what's going on at a club, particularly a lowly one like ours and Port. The supporters generally have a better feel for this stuff as we're the ones that suffer week in week out while the experts concentrate on the big games and big name players. I found it frustrating this year when many experts were questioning why Moloney was playing at Casey, when we knew the answer. He wasn't playing good footy.4 points

Gysberts for a multiple pieces of crud return doesn't make any sense, as we're having to cull players to make room on the list, and crud is what we're trying to eliminate. Better to keep Gysberts & hope he can turn it around.4 points

We have this thread and the resulting argument over what should be the measure of a season every year. I have long held the belief that wins are not a good measurement for teams not competing for the top 4 (where flags are won) and that we are better off we a series of KPIs (I will update that thread at some point over the next few days...). But everyone has their own expectations. Results still don't worry me. Performance does however. I expect us to be in games longer and play a brand of football that is more the style that wins finals football.4 points

I was once a very hardline - Kids Develop Best in the AFL - zealot. But now I don't think that is possible at our club. We don't have the senior players to allow them to flourish. And now our senior players are those young kids we need to develop... If getting Dawes, Pedersen, Ray, Rodan, Byrnes for between 2 to 6 years takes some burden off those kids then I am all for it. And the bonus would be we are more competitive right now. We have enough kids and they have plenty of opportunities. What they don't have is support.4 points

Nope not alone as frustrating as he has been its hard not to imagine our talented players such as morton, sylvia and watts to name a few playing at clubs like Sydney collingwood and Geelong think most (not all) of them would be good to very good players maybe even stars. Hope we keep Morton (and Gysberts) and they develope into the players we need/hope3 points

After 4 wins last year, 3 of which were against development junior sides and another against a side that took their bye week early, I would think Neeld would want to get the number of wins up next year regardless of whatever other KPIs he wishes to also use. But those KPIs are going to be hollow achievements if they are not reflected in wins on the board in 2012. Given the heavy recruitment of experienced players over the summer and the discard of a number of perennial NQRs, MFC supporters would have every right to ignore KPI achievements if we turn in another shocker like 2012.3 points

Are you serious? They set a culture there of hardwork. Cornes and Junior are two of the hardest trainers around and from everything you hear, Brogan is a really good working with the young rucks too. Those players backed up everything Sheedy said and did really well. Absolute country miles ahead of the help Ablett/rischitelli/brennan/bock/etc gave GC. We really need senior players who are going to work hard to set a trend. We've been moaning about it for a couple of years. I remember someone talking about how they were chatting to Andrew Mackie at the end of last year, and he'd said that Melbourne has a great list which hasnt developed as well as they could because they don't have the senior players to show them how. Totally agree. I don't see us taking a couple of senior players as stopping the development of the team. I see them as taking the place of some of our players who haven't reached their potential, and really, we're just hoping that they'll turn into something amazing aka Bate, Petterd, Bennell, Jetta, Macdonald etc3 points

Why we we take a 4th round pick when we are effectively taking ourselves out of the draft? Essendon's 4th round pick is 75. 75!! We wouldn't even ask for that pick... That's when you know it is BS.3 points

After the last 5 years Winning does matter...More should be demanded of the MFC. F$&@k winning the odd quarter that is only an excuse to hide from harder scrutiny.3 points

That would be criminal if it occurred, we would lose a player and 4 spots in the draft for Pederson; thanks but no thanks. If Brisbane are silly enough to pay 33 for Martin, which I doubt they are, then we must spent it wisely.3 points

I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. I can't see the team going from four to 16 wins in the space of a season. We need to win some games now and I remember saying in 2007 that the team needs to learn how to win.3 points

agree Paul. But the supporters & club need some wins to keep the place together. Another 2012 would be an absolute disaster for membership & cash flow.3 points

I'm with you Robbie. Rivers and Moloney played about 40 games this year and the pick we got for them is not good enough for a bloke who played 2 games for North and couldn't get into the AFL until he was 25.3 points

If they want to pay his contract as he languishes in the VFL, good on them. They don't want him and don't play him but want a top draft pick to trade him, yeah right, next.3 points

Minimum number of wins? It'd be pretty hard to get less than zero. But picking an arbitrary numbers of wins, I think, is for fools. There are better measures of progress being made.3 points

This is the problem right here IMO. For too long we have focused on winning in 5 years and not right now. Winning right now is all that matters given our current situation. If we can grab Rodan for nothing and he is the best option on gameday, it's clearly the right decision. Talented kids are just that but must be made to earn their spots. only then will we have the desired elite program we are striving for.3 points

Why have we all got so crazy about getting this 26 year old Werribee player?3 points

If North want to bend us over a barrel walk away - then we can just take him next year if we still want him once his contract is up.2 points

Watch people opinions of Rodan change as he gets closer to wearing our colours ahaha Seriosuly though, it makes me sick to think we'd offer Rodan a contract yet have retired Green, and seemingly didnt do eveything we could to retain McDonald, Bruce, Rivers and Moloney2 points

What's worse? A talented Demon playing the odd game during an unlucky and injury interrupted year who gets turned on by his own teams supporters and has all kinds of BS rumours spread about his attitude by some wanna be Hutchy's who always seem to have an "anonymous" source who is "involved at the club". What a load of rubbish. This is a good test for Neeld, can he actually coach a player into form and confidence or does he simply ship out anyone that's too much work for him?2 points
