  1. UPDATE: Dawes Deal finally completed this afternoon, expect many chips to now fall including Pederson & potential other club deals will flow freely tomorrow Dawes & Lick 58 to Demons Pick 20 & 45 to Pies Other updates (coded - Hot, Luke warm, scuttlebutt) -------------------------------------------------------------------- - Pick 58 may be sent to Roos for Cam Pederson (Rivers compo pick may be offered however Roos may not want to wait for announcement its holding up Macintosh Deal (H) - Jared Rivers has told the club he will join Cats once offer sheet comes through (H) - Demons inquire what Dockers are seeking for Broughton (H) - Farren Ray still in picture after Saints can secure M.Brown from Eagles, may look to Stef Martin for swap with Farren unless other cards fall. Expect update once Cripps deal done (H) - Neeld may get his dream Fwd lineup as Gumbleton to either Dockers, Dogs or Demons (H) - Martin & Gysberts both linked to a complex deal involving 4 teams, more to come on this one as details are sketchy at this stage however it's believed to involve Bombers, Demons, GWS & 1-2 other clubs - 4/5 Clubs have met with Demons to feel out offers for Stef Martin, Demons holding out for word on Ray and above deal to become clearer (H) - Melbourne putting in yards to convince Geelong to part with George Burbury or Jonathan Simpkin Both are Rookie listed & Demons rate them VERY highly (H) - James Strauss has been put on table as potential lure for players with outside speed, after some inquiries early on from Hawks & Pies were initially rejected (SB) - Dylan Roberton's management has mentioned Demons have been in contact (LW) - WCE have met with Cale Morton's Management, Bombers & Swans also showing mild interest (LW) - Jordan Russell has met with 3 VIC clubs & it's clear he will receive an opportunity, Dees seen to hold him as a reserve option if unable to secure another experienced utility type - Matthew Bate back on Bulldogs menu, Lions & GC also keen & potential packaged deal for Ben Jacobs with PA also gaining momentum late today (LW) - Jesse White an interesting topic as it seems Dogs may prefer him to Gumbleton opening door for Demons & Dockers to battle it out should he decide to leave. Neeld not keen on White due to perceived "Lazy" training & prep habits (LW) - Demons have no interest in M.Campbell after seeking word on C.Garlett earlier in Trade Period (LW) - Melbourne have been ruled out of any deal involving Andy Otten (H) - Dees, Swans & Hawks have reportedly entertained the idea of speaking with Dan Connors about a rookie list opportunity, although reports are its long odds at this stage (SB) - Proposed Lucas Cook straight swap with Roos for Garlett and/or Part of Pederson deal now seems unlikely as Lachie Hansen agrees to stay at NM (LW) - Lions & Dockers have reportedly minor interest only as it looks Lucas may be delisted & have to settle for a rookie spot at best (LW) - Ricky Petterd may be traded for a pick in range of 35-45 with up to 6 teams declaring some level of interest, may come done to fitness tests (LW) Believe it or not, barely half the info floating around atm, by far most hectic & openly negotiated trade period in AFL history - Well done AFL for insult getting time frame & addition of FA right to ensure players & teams can finally look to improve their list & find new opportunities! Much more to come when I get some time to digest all the numerous reports, since Dawes deal & Mcintosh deal have been agreed upon, the flood gates are well & truly alive! PS - Mark Neeld, the man walks what he talks - Well done Dees! HOT (more likely) Picks 3 & 13 to GWS for Jesse Hogan & Pick 20 Stefan Martin to Saints (Dogs, Pies, GC also keen in which any pick they send would likely be on traded to saints) for Farren Ray 4th round pick to North Melbourne for Cam Pederson (may be part of bigger deal) Pick 20 to Collingwood for Chris Dawes (likely to include swaps of later picks also) Brent Moloney to Lions as FA Luke Warm: Ben Warren to demons via trade or PSD Cale Morton to WCE for Koby Stevens or to Bombers for David Myers Stefan Martin to pies for Sharrod Wellingham (unlikely due to SW reluctance to stay in VIc) Jared Rivers to Geelong (luke warm now as Cats eyeing Delaney & Jacobs thus have no solid offer to Riv as yet) Ricky Petterd to Collingwood/GC for mid range pick Adelaide making a play to demons for Jordie Mckenzie which will most likely go nowhere Lucas Cook to Bulldogs for Christian Howard (mooted about late today) Neeld has rumoured to have met with the agent of blues Rookie Bell Pick 4 to GC for Josh Caddy (very unlikely as Caddy hasnt met with Dees to date, Dees want live pick with 3 now gone to GWS) Clinton Young to Demons via free agency (will depend on how hard Dees go once observing what other pins drop) Docker Dylan Roberton has met with Demons as has teammate Jay Van Berlo Jesse White's management have sought out demons for a chat, seen as potential Dawes contingency plan Melbourne expected to meet with cut Swan Jared Moore & PA's David Rodan in coming days Scuttlebutt: - Semi-serious talk rumored to have taken place today from 3-4 different stories between dees/blues re: Kane Lucas & Jack Watts Word has it Demons played hands off approach with Watts, to which Blues responded with "fair enough". Tom Bell also discussed with blues still confident of retaining as a rookie - WCE mildly keen on Cale Morton, with bombers & Blues also mentioned - 2 Clubs still making inquiries for Garland, may be entertained if Rivers remains - Lucas Cook has garnered only very light interest, with Saints & Dogs amusing offers - Jamie Bennell has been discussed as potential swap to both WA clubs for a late round pick - Demons to delist up to 11 players depending on trade period success: Macdonald, Bate, Bennell, Cook, Evans, Jetta, Batram, Petterd, Davis & more may go if trades cannot be facilitated with Jetta/Bartram considered to be 50-50 calls. - Despite reports, Demons have no interest in Lachie Hansen or J Giles - Melbourne looking to discuss potential of GC being open to trading Hall, also sussing out GWS' Rhys Cooyou - David Armitage keeps popping up as yet another Demon target WATCH THIS SPACE.. 2012 has begun at breakneck speed & a record amount of trades will be completed! **Disclaimer - All data above is a collated mix from information I come across via many mediums in my corriders at my workspace, I only post things I hear from 2-4 different whispers & for those who dont yet, im sure most understand the AFL trade period is a crazxy time & with the window small only very few mentioned deals get completed.. even deals clubs agree on after days of intense talks can go un-done**

  2. Everyone seems to be forgetting a kid Neeld drafted last year, in Rory Taggert. He hits the contest hard and has a good kick on him. I reckon he might have a thing or two to do with our re-shaping midfield.

  3. Just got to hope GWS won't bid on him as they'll most likely take Whitfield, Toumpas & Grundy. Fact is Wines has been told we will take him if he's available. What a time to be a Dee, they're starting to give us hope again with some good decisions. I hope everyone is happy, expect a few more yet guys!

  5. Bingo! To see exactly when it died, look at Richmond under Terry Wallace. A recruiting strategy based on a bunch of dichotomies - for example EITHER they are skillful OR they have a great defensive work ethic. EITHER they are a running 'user' OR an inside 'gatherer'. Classic examples would be the polar opposites of Travis Johnstone and Simon Godfrey. Tell me you'd keep the pair of them ahead of one guy who can deliver at least solidly on both counts? Get a core of about six who can break those either/or assumptions to a good standard, and we have the starting point of a potent midfield. This is one of the reasons I have been so excited by Nathan Jones' ability to add to his game every year. Besides, Viney will not be a weak link when it comes to spreading from a contest and using the ball quckly and effectively. It's about work rate more than any special athletic attribute.

  7. Excellent. If Morton did go to WCE, watch him end up looking like Q Lynch after 1 pre-season.

  8. Good result for Wellingham joining WCE, a club whose traditional culture should suit him right down to the ground.

  9. Lets just trade 13 for Tippett or Reid...

  11. Don't kid yourself because you review stats and watch lots of video clips you are any kind of guru on drafting. I have watched this kid and he is an absolute gun, size speed, mongrel, attacks contests hard, 1%ers that assist teamates and creates opportunity and goals for others. He is the best young forward I have seen in WA since Buddy and that includes Mitch Clark, Darling and Polak who was a gun as a kid but liked to indulge a bit. I saw Hogans last game when he kicked the 4 goals and had 20 odd disposals and was with some WA recruiters who knew they were witnessing something special. It was said there and then this kid is gone mini draft certainty. I know for certain Bulldogs were into him after that prelim loss when his season was over I don't care whether we take Toumpas, Wines or O'Rourke, Viney and Hogan brings to the club what I love most in players so this week couldn't get any better Welcome aboard Hoges!

  12. HG is well connected, there's not much more you need to know. There aren't many on this forum I'd believe almost unconditionally, but he is one.

  13. Well, you can go enjoy being that way. I am going to enjoy getting the hardest player in a generation, a 194cm 97kg FF/CHF, some kid that only GWS could have taken, all the while staying in the top 5 and another pick in the first round.

  14. For those freting about using pick 13 ect From trade week we get a NET GAIN we would have had to use pick 3 on Viney anyway, Then got Hogan at a bargain of pick 13, upgraded pick 26 to pick 20 and a free Zone selection player who was going in the second or third round. So the net gain is large for us imo, Got massive unders for Hogan in the end and a nice upgrade and nice player in return.

  16. The only thing I care about is winning a flag. Hogan puts us significantly closer to that goal and waiting 1 year for a player that can help us win a flag in 5 years is a no brainer. Dangerfield went to the Crows at 17 and didn't play for a year. Do you think their supporters now care ? It's not hard to pick up goal kicking mids. Sloane was a pick in the 40's, Beams 29, Sydney picked up Kennedy who couldn't get a regular game at Hawthorn, Kieran Jack was a rookie, Port got Brad Ebert in a trade, Shuey was pick 19, Rockliff was a rookie, etc. How easy do you think it is to get a top line power forward, such as Franklin, Brown in his heyday, Cloke at his best, the emerging Taylor Walker, Hawkins ? And guess what ? Four of those 5 have premiership medallions hagning around their neck.

  17. For once the club initiates change and people still find something to complain about.

  18. Talk of trading Gysberts seem to have died down lately. This pleases me.

  19. The one thing I keep thinking about is Viney saying that Wines is the most competitive player he's seen and that they'd drive each other. That combined with the fact they've both captained junior teams is a winning formula for me.

  20. Adding to DemonWA's thought about GWS stockpiling talent because the know they will lose them - every extra pick we can jam down their throat now just increases the amount they will vomit back in four year's time when Tom Scully's contract squeezes them all out. Dear GWS/AFL, thank you for paying for the development of our future players, and also the draft picks for Scully, lots of love, Melbourne Demons!

  21. Or look at it this way Scully for Hogan, 20 and Barry

  22. I think the reason it took so long was we were trying to get GWS to take your pessimism too but they can't ship it because those big mining trucks can't travel on road.

  25. Meanwhile, GWS can't find the cash to keep Jonaton Giles, seriously? Tom Scully is the best double agent football has ever seen.

  26. We're only talking to them because we are interested in one of their friends.

  27. I think Wines and Viney aren't as similar as people are worried about. Yes they're both tough competitors, but what's wrong with that? I'd prefer to pick a safe mid like wines who is going to compete with the big boys from day dot with pick 4, rather than draft a skinny skillful bloke who might end up being the best available. Not saying this needs to be the way we draft every year, but doesn't hurt to get some safer, ready made types this year after 3-4 years of punting on talent alone.

  28. If Wellingham is worth 17, then Dawes cannot be worth 20. Wellingham is clearly a superior player to Dawes. Nasher if Hogan becomes what we hope, then we will have him and Mitch Clark in the key forward posts, meaning Dawes won't get a game. I cannot justify trading pick 20 in a strong draft for a stop-gap measure who we would hope doesn't make our best side in two years' time. You cannot have enough quality mids and this is what we should target with 4 and 20. Previous drafts suggest that it is entirely possible to pick up A grade mids at pick 20.

  29. Been reading Demonland for a few years now, but this is my first post (because I have never been so hopefull that we are heading in the right direction), and it amazes me the people who post on here - are they Demon supporters or just plain stupid. Getting Viney, Hogan and Barry, still having pick 4 + 20 - (to maybe use on Dawes) and people think somehow thats not good enough and we have been dudded! Do these people know anything about football! From some of the posts I think some supporters want us to be at the bottom every year to get draft picks, well here's hoping next year we don't have a pick in the top ten!!

  30. Thanks. I was wondering what height he'd got to. 195cm/97kg, fast, agile, beast, who's a good field kick and strong contested mark. It's as good as it gets for a CHF. His 3.02 for his size is excellent. Wines best was 3.07 and Whitfield ran 3.15 (with a head cold). In his last game for Claremont he had 21 disposals, 10 marks and kicked 4 goals to be best on ground in the prelim. final. He makes Hurley, who is 193cm/92kg, look like his slow little kid Brother. This draft/trade period may well be talked about in 10 years from now for the Dees.

  36. We've noted your preference and thank you for it. I don't know whether you or some others appreciate the value of a gun key forward. How many do you think are running around ? Hogan is a much better key forward prospect than Hurley. Hogan is 194cm and already 97 kg at 17. Wow. But importantly, he has pace, aggression, loves physical contact, is agile, a good field kick, a very good mark and doesn't look out of place running through the midfield. He's exactly what we need. You win premierships with a guy like this and a stellar midfield. Pick 3 and 13 for Hogan, 20 and Barry is a win for this club. Hogan would be a top 5 selection next year, but what is attractive is that we make certain of getting our man and have the opportunity to develop him for a year. He'll debut as a 19 year old and be ready to impact. I really like Darling, but Hogan is a rung above due to his size. I'll be going to as many games at Casey next year as I can.

  37. You know this for a fact? Are you privee to what is going on behind closed doors? Anyway, in the wash-up, what you or I or anyone else say means nothing... the club will make the choices it sees fit to make. They did well to get Viney to 26 when he could just as easily have gone for 3. The club has obviously entered an agreement with GC to get that done and so if that means we are getting Hogan for what is essentially pick 13 as well as Barry and pick 20 for pick 26, then I have no issue with that at all.

  38. Has already been asked what number he would like a while back and his response was "24.... because I'm twice as good as the old man" Cheeky bugger!

  39. Plus dom barry. 20 will be considered for Dawes? That would mean these 5 from our top 4 picks: Hogan Pick 4 Mid Barry Dawes Viney 2 mids with potential to make an impact round 1, 1 KPF ready to go. A giant KPF and potential line breaking wingman/defender to develop. Seems like a nice balance and fills needs.

  40. I could not disagree more with the OP. Mark Neeld wants us to play tough hard smart footy thats wins finals. Like the Swans for instance. If any player does not want to buy into that then heck I don't want them. The reason some players don't want to come is because we lack respect. I am 42 and we've been a joke for most of my life. We can't just change that overnight. Its one step at a time. We moved from the decrepit Junction Oval to the elite facilities at AAMI Park. We payed off our $5million debt. Then we invested in our footy department after the end of the 2011 season. We recruited Mitch Clark for Pick 12 which now looks like a bargain. Is there a better sports science duo in the AFL than Dave Misson and Neil Craig? I doubt it. If you are a Dees players you now can have trust in those charged with turning you into an elite AFL athlete. Then their is Mark Neeld. He sets tough standards. Tougher than we've seen since Swooper. They are not random standards. They are the standards required to build a successful team. Then their are our young leaders and players. Grimes, Trengove, Jones. They seem resolute. Jack Viney the same. I'm more excited about the Dees than I've ever been. We're back in the game for the first time in my lifetime. It won't huppen overnight but it wull huppen.

  41. Have there ever been more stories or "I heard" anecdotes about one kid? Dwayne the moron Wussell is going to have a field day. Anyway, I heard the final Expandables movie is only going to have one cast member, Jack Viney. There's an evil clone of him and they have to fight 'til the death. The movie goes for 9 hours and there is no ending.

  44. Shouldn't you be asking what number he would likely to be going at in next years draft? Think of it as buying "off the plan" or as an investment in the future. We still have pick 4 and now have pick 20 and have Viney for a song. If things hadn't gone our way, we would have used pick 3 on Viney anyway. The net effect is that the deal has really meant that Hogan, Barry and pick 20, have cost us picks 13 and 26.

  45. Hogan is 17. He's an investment in the future. Dawes and Pederson are investments in the present.
