  2. North Melbourne club doctor Andrew McMahon confirmed Leigh Adams suffered a partial dislocation of his right shoulder. Judd's defence just suffered a partial dislocation with that news.

  3. Well if you are not being rhetorical I can answer... Fitness - takes ages for the kids, and the senior players can't be helped. The immediate returns are in the 23-27 year olds of which we don't have many at all. When it comes to body development (which is what I am really looking at), Misson will get our player bigger in the arse and thighs while keeping that ability to run. Look at Hawthorn and their players are fit but big and wide and that's where we need to be. Toughness - this would be an intangible that would be difficult to define. As a young list we have been pushed aside easily at times, but we were against Bailey aswell. The Essendon win was the best, 'toughest' win since 2006 so that is a good sign. Essendon are a good team. We put together 4 quarters of good hard footy and beat them. Gameplan - I have my view and I have given it ad nauseum I am sure: we played a frontrunning style of footy under Bailey and never got near good teams in 2011 unless they were interstate teams at the G. Neeld has shown a great desire to teach the boys to run both ways so that when we are a good team we can match it with other good teams - frankly I get tired of winning 8 games against crap and then get belted against relevant teams. Anyway, the spread (desire to get uncontested footy that fuels your attack) has diminished astonishingly since 2011 (down from 214 a game to 179, and that is after it was about 150 prior to the Sydney game) and while this has been because of the focus on defensive running and discipline to structures it is the players overcorrecting - not the coach's instruction. Trengove has already mentioned a few times now this very issue and he is battling through it. BTW - I am glad he is battling through it now rather than 5 years from now when our star player is a frontrunner - this stuff is good to learn. I'm not happy with where we are at and mistakes have been made but we are not a very good team right now so if we can spend these crap years teaching the kids how to play football properly then that is great. I don't see the greatness of having a more offensive minded coach gettting another 3 wins out of this list. It's not worth delaying their education.

  8. Thanks for your contribution to MFC Cam, 224, in the main, excellent games. Shame you wasted two years at the Hawks when a little less greed may have seen you reach 250 with our great club.

  11. No. Goddard's output is on the wane yet he's still going to command huge coin from some club. It shouldn't be us. I'd offer a more modest two year deal to Chappy if the Cats only offer him one.

  12. So let's list some positives out of the year. 1. Jack Watts has blossomed 2. Nathan Jones has stepped up another level 3. Garland has shown his versatility by playing well forward and back 4. Mitch Clark 5. Jeremy Howe is more than just a Robbo clone - he doesn't just stay in the forward pocket taking marks (Note: no criticism of Robbo intended) 6. Compensation picks for Tom Scully might be more valuable than the player they replaced 7. Presumably our finances are OK because I see no media speculation about the club's 'financial predicament' 8. I can actually discern a development strategy which appeared non-existent for the previous decade 9. After a slow start, James Sellar is providing a big bodied defender which had otherwise been lacking 10. Tom McDonald has shown enough to suggest he'll be our CHB for many years 11. Sam Blease and Daniel Nicholson have added pace to an otherwise slow side. They now have to improve their fitness and disposal respectively. 12. Jordie McKenzie has shown he's not just a stopper and he can actually kick the ball 13. James Strauss has made it back to the seniors after an horrific injury

  14. There's nothing to get over, he's not a player worth paying highly for, and he won't reach lofty heights like a top pick should. It's simply a case of just not liking the little [censored], and having a bit of fun discussing how average he is. This is footy, we've been giving it to opposition players for years, as if a soulless, lying scumbag with an abnormally bloated dad is going to be immune from some harsh, yet completely fair comments. Don't like it? You know the drill.

  15. What! Two years! The sky is falling!. We need results now! Rome was built in a day! I've been waiting (insert relevant number here) years for a flag and i have to wait 2 more! I know Neeld said it would take time, the players were not AFL standard in terms of fitness and that it is big task to turn around a culture but i thought he was being ironic! Exclamation mark!

  16. Mate honestly, even if we went for Malthouse there is no way in hell that he will come to us as senior coach. He would see us as a basket case getting rid of a coach that he recommended and is a mentor too after his first year in the job. A club he has openly said would probably take at least 5 years hard work to get on track. Let Neeld do his job and stop the fanciful rubbish.

  17. How the [censored] can you compare Bruce deliberately manipulating the situation to get to Hawthorn for nothing to Todd Viney following his dream? Seriously? Also the Barassi situation, any comparison is laughable. There were no trades back then, how could it be possibly compared in the same light. FFS, [censored] grace and dignity.

  18. People of demonland your thinking about this all wrong. If we get goddard and he starts to play well according to some on here we could then trade him. Can I start a trade Goddard thread now?

  19. Our forward area belongs to Mitch Clarke...I don't want anyone else (especially Cloke) taking up his space. I understand we need several tall forwards but Mitch owns the space and he is numero uno! We need a tall, strong second fiddle not an underperforming, selfish sod. Also don't like Cloke's attitude to negotiations...reminds me too much of that No. 1 P_ick!

  22. Lets trade Frawley I reckon.....he is worth something now and won't be in our next premiership side of 3033 so why not get some value for him...he would be worth 2-3 picks in the first and 2nd rounds....more 17/18yo's the better i say.....

  24. Yeah, lets trade away someone who has had less than one seasons development with us, shown when off the leash can win 30+ possessions and is costing us nothing in the salary cap. 2nd round pick?? exactly what we need, more kids playing at Casey. I understand its been a tough season on everyone............

  26. Rpfc, Your reference to toughness - it seems to read to me as being 'hard at the footy'. If that is the case. I would like to add in another tangable point of; Mental toughness - this is a hard one to teach, some of the players will have it to burn, while some unfortunatly will just not possess the mental toughness required of them in the modern game. Its difficult to assess where a players head space is at times especially younger players who are yet to learn to control the thought process. It will develop as their game times and numbers progress in addittion to individual fitness levels as they learn to push themselves harder and further physically and mentally. One of the problems I see right now is that the continual losses, injuries and constant microscoping of the club will start to take its toll on the players mentally. How do they get over this? Good question. I would hazard a thought that the 'leaders' have started to define themselves within the playing group, some players in the group may only now be identified as having the 'mental toughness' and leadership to get the group through the rest of the season. Its a hard task to have younger men as part of the leadership group, as they lack life skills/knowledge of what it takes to show the others the 'I am not losing anymore to anyone! mindset'. Its how they respond in the next couple of years that will be the true test of where they are at.

  27. But it gets back to quality, it gets back to how highly a club rates them. Some people think that Brock McLean should be as good as Jobe Watson because they're both slow. But one reads the play exceptionally well, makes great decisions continuously, and executes really well, especially by hand. Look at Sydney. They presently have Kennedy, Bolton, McVeigh, Jack, and Hannebery. All of these players win contested footy, make good decisions and execute well. Imo, there's plenty of room for Wines and Viney. In fact, they'd complement each other. Can you really have too many A grade grunt mids ? Contested footy and quality clearances win you games. The problem is that we barely have an A grade mid, although Jones is knocking on the door. Sylvia played the best inside game I've seen him play on the weekend, which was great, but Magner, Couch and Moloney aren't the future. And Sylvia is better served as a powerful burst runner and finisher. He's more Sydney's O'Keefe. I'm all for getting pace into the team, it's what we need, but there's plenty of room for a couple of A grade inside mids also. In fact, we need them.

  28. Things might have been so different - if we hadn't pushed Junior at the end of 2010, he would've stayed on as captain, Cam would've re-signed, 186 wouldn't have happened, Bailey would've been re-signed, Scully would still have left, Cam and Junior would've retired with honour at the end of 2011, Beamer would be captain and we'd be 14th with 4 or 5 wins now ...

  29. I like WInes, he reminds me of Dustin Martin - very dual sided and a real competitor. To say he doesnt have any stand out attributes is probably due to the fact that he does everything - and does everything right, much like Dustin Martin before he got drafted. Wines and Viney will tear up any midfield in years to come, they are beasts, they hunt the packs like animals and thats what I want to see. I dont want to see another Cale Morton, Id prefer to see a Joel Selwood. I dont want a Kruezer, Id rather a Cotchin.

  30. Sometimes this place is pathetic. Cam Bruce is one of our best players for the last 10-15 years. He gave MFC many years of good service and deserves the respect of each and every one of us supporters. If you're going to write something negative in here, don't bother. It only shows what a disrespectful fool you are. Thank you Cam for many great memories. You were one of our best mids for years, kicked a few bags, did some great shutdown jobs on legends like Hird, and won us many games. Enjoy retirement and hopefully you return to the club in some capacity in the years to come.

  32. He couldn't play out the second year of the two year deal he wanted... And there was a spot left vacant on our RL for him this year if he earned a 2012 in 2011 so I don't agree.

  33. Are you serious? The man has a contract based on the club's understanding that there needed to be a reversal of culture in order to move forward. Sometimes this means taking some steps backward. I guess it's like kickiing the ball backward to create space sometimes. The point is, Neeld was not appointed to continue the work of Dean Bailey. He was appointed to create a new culture among the players and football dept. That's what he's doing. I don't care if we don't win another game this year because I know the foundations are being laid for a strong, successful future. If you're happy with eight wins a year against mediocre opposition then perhaps you should swap to supporting Richmond. I've been waiting nearly fifty years for some long term success. If I have to wait another couple of years, so be it.

  34. How about we change the captaincy every month according to who the best player was, just like McDonalds do with their employees? Seriously, just let it go about Jones or whoever else being captain. We have captains. They have picked to grow into the role over the long term. End of discussion.

  37. I don't blame him for his stance, and I don't blame the club for its stance either. Both parties looked after their own interests, they didn't align, Cam went. Best of luck Cam and thanks. It's a shame that you and the MFC parted ways in the manner you did, but I guess not all relationships break smoothly. I hope you look back at your time at the MFC positively; and I reckon you deserve much more respect than you get from some around here. It would've been good to see Greeny and co chair you off the field after one last game rather than decaying at Box Hill, but such is life.

  38. When Bailey came to the dees we were broke. He had no football department money to speak of and nothing like the support staff and coaches of the better clubs. The "culture rebuild" is on with Neeld because we're out of debt and the price of skimping on football department matters has never been so obvious. Players like Bruce got caught up in the free fall we were in. I hope he returns in some way , would love to have him back around the place. Just not teaching the kids how to kick!

  40. I don't understand what Mckenzie was doing... Certainly not used to that behaviour from players in the Red and Blue. I suppose the sad nature of sport is that, by the time a player retires, he's well passed his best. It shouldn't be forgotten how much he put in for the Dees - a lot of players on our list would do well to mimic his gut-running ability. As Rhino hinted at, hopefully his mate Brad gets the respect he deserves for delivering 6 solid seasons in our worst period - not ridicule for his 1 poor one. Hopefully Brucey can be welcomed back into the MFC family with open arms. Fought for every ounce of his talent to make an impact on the biggest stage. P.s. does he remind anyone of Melbourne's current number 10?

  43. 1205th player to appear at MFC, 15th most games played, 22nd most goals kicked, 224 games over 10 years, 4277 disposals, 210 goals. (http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/players/C/Cameron_Bruce.html) Taken at 20 years old pick 64 in 1999, but definitely played better footy than most of MFC's higher picks... which doesn't seem like the run of the place lately. Legend!

But dont let minor facts interfere with your view.

  47. The beauty of having three picks in the first 12 -13 is alot of clubs will not be able to risk a pick on a Stringer (returning from injury), Menzel (injury prone), Plowman (missed U18 champs) or Garlett (questionable attitude) when they only have one dart to throw. Assuming Viney goes second round and we retain all three picks give me Toumpas (clearly the best on what I saw), one of Mayes, Martin (MD), Wines, O'Rourke and then one of the questionables with our third.
