Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Players to target at the end of the year

Has anyone kicked 36 goals in a season for us this decade? I can't recall

Liam Jurrah kicked 40 in 18 games in 2011.

P.s. Vickey = spud. Reminds me of Dutchy, another ex-tigers forward type...

Liam Sumner from GWS and Jesse Lonergan at GC.

Contracted so we will have to trade ala Dom Tyson but both talented and shown enough in limited AFL games. GWS and Suns have monster midfielders so if they want top billings, they'll have to move.

Gladly give our second pick. Which might be high 20's?

Mitch hallihan

Buyer beware... Shane Savage was also a fringe mid at hawks and he's been awful for saints. Just because he's at hawks doesn't mean he's great.

He is a good player and i wouldn't be disappointed if he came to the MFC, i just think the asking price would be too high..

I'd consider Levi Casboult from the blues, for our third rounder... There is something about the way he plays, that makes me think he will dominate matches in a couple of years.. When he's playing well, he has on field presence .. Could be a handy Chris Dawes replacement...

I'd also consider picking up Matthew Watson as a rookie, if they delist him this year...

Neither Casboult or watson are up to it and Gibbs has resigned.

I'll make a disclaimer that I know Tyrone and whilst he has not come on, if anybody could get the most out of him it's Roos. Wouldn't dismiss it out of hand.

I raised the possibility of Vickery about 4-6 weeks ago.

I wouldn't be surprised or dismayed if Roos made a run for him.

Definitely a Roos-type pick up.

His value is at an all-time low so we could get him cheap, he clearly has attributes that he should be using a lot more effectively, has worn out his welcome at his original club, and he looks like he desperately needs a change of scenery.

Go Roosy. Get him.

Even if he's only an extra ruck and forward option for the next 2 years.

I'd back Roos to get more out of him than any other coach.

The big question is how cheap is cheap. I'm sure the Tigers would be happy to move on from him for a valuable top 30 type pick, but they'd probably back themselves to persist with him for a pick after that.

My personal view is any pick after about 50 or 55 is pretty worthless as you can get your man with your next pick or PSD or rookie draft. So that's the kind of pick I'd give up for Vickery.

He's a big strong athletic kid who can't seem to focus at all on the actual job of playing footy. Doesn't know when to use his athleticism which isn't bad, can't control the right level of physicality either.

I've done a bit of thinking on a potential (my dream) list management scenario for the end of year:

We're paying 95% or so of the cap atm (not sure how mitch Clarks payout effects that...), so call it $9,600,000 in TPP prior to Mitch Clarks payout.

I'm predicting we will delist the following players at a minimum: Byrnes, Clark, Strauss, Tapscott, Fitzpatrick, Evans. Between them I guesstimate that they earn $1,250,000 to $1,350,000. The majority of that sum is made up of Clark ($650,000+) and Byrnes ($150,000 to $200,000), the remaining 4 on an average of $100,000 - $125,000. *I have factored Frawley in at $650,000 (however, I'm predicting he'll stay so haven't included him in that sum).

I assume we will upgrade Jetta, leaving 5 spaces on the senior list. We must make a minimum of 2 draft picks plus Jetta, I'm predicting we will make 3. I'm estimating that the remaining senior playing list + Jetta + 3 Draftees will earn a combined $8,700,000, with the higher paid players ($350,000+) being: Hogan, Jones, Watts, Dawes, Frawley, Dunn, Vince, Grimes, Howe.

Based on the workings above that leaves us with 2 spots to fill, a minimum spend of $850,000 (approx.) and a max spend of $1,350,000 (approx.).

TLDR; Although I'm unsure on their contract situations I would throw stupid amounts of money at Luke Breust and Luke Parker - $500,000 to $650,000 each. Their salaries would skyrocket compared to what they will be paid at their respective clubs next year and we can sell the idea of joining a young talented team on the rise, with 2 years (hopefully) of being coached by Paul Roos. *Hannebery would be my next preference.

Evans/Fitzy contracted for next year. Blease/McKenzie/Nicholson are not, could find themselves delisted.

Our midfield is still a way off, even if it has improved a bit. We lack serious midfield depth.

Roos will be targeting more gun onballers no doubt

Our KPP stocks are fine

It's not depth we lack so much, as genuine class and speed in the midfield.

That, AND depth.

When we have our best 22 we have a solid midfield, not great, still could use class and speed as you say, but it's solid. Now that Cross and McKenzie are out for this week (Cross for the next 4-6 weeks) we're going to struggle in bringing other guys in who can genuinely tag, not just that, but guys who can actually fill best 22 players spots. For example Hawthorn, with all their injuries they have at the moment they still win most weeks, and when they lost to Port/Swans, it wasn't by much, they keep winning because they have great depth who can fill spots to a degree until injured players are no longer injured. We're just lucky that Bulldogs will be without Gia, Cooney and most likely even Griffen. But Cross will hurt us because he's been in great form all year.

Hawthorn still win most weeks, because they have a crop of genuine class. And their depth has been severely tested. It's been shown to be pretty thin, IMO.

As for taggers, I think we'll use Jones to tag/go head-to-head with Libba this weekend. Losing your two best taggers in one week is pretty unlucky. I reckon most teams would struggle to cover that injury hit.

For me, we lack enough genuine class to get the job done consistently against good opposition.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
