Heard him speak last night impressive. He came accross as that hard nosed coach that we need. Started off by having a dig at Judd sayiny that when he walked into the Juntion Oval he saw the weights, the smell and said to himself this is a real Football club.

Then went on to list 10-12 players young players that gained good experience from 2007 and pointed out that these guys are the future and need to put pressure on the senior players to raise the bar.

Then he announce pre-season officially starts on th 31/10, but it really starts today as the players have to present themselves on the 31/10 in top shape. He put the challenge to each player to show him how serious they are by the way the present for the opening day of preseason.

Great night last night, Josh Mahoney was announced as an assistant coach as well.

this is the bit i like the best. new coach, no favourites. if you want a game, earn it. you have one month to get your fitness back up to scratch for preseason. come back overweight or unfit and you start the season on the outer, hopefully this gives a few of the younger players a chance to make their mark.

hopefully its that little scent of mennace that might have a few complacent ones just a little unsettled and the younger ones keen!!

The playing fileds's been releveled and the goal posts shifted !! :D

Just reading what he said in the Hun, and I almost got goosebumps. You can already tell that this bloke is going to take a more intelligent approach than ND, who could only ever come up with the same old cliches, like "We're gunna show the footy world we can play some good footy next year". Not only that, but he is already putting his own methods into place. It's excellent to see him trying to bring a new culture to the place. Hopefully he will staunchly enforce it as well.

good on him for having a dig on judd!! as for bailey.. i reckon the players are shittin themselfs

I think our players should be given some more credit. Why would they be [censored] themselves because hard work is ahead of them?..they are afl players..they didnt get onto an afl list without hard work.

maybe they should be given credit if they werent 14th on the ladder. they have been working fairly hard to get where they are, put they are paid to work hard and dean will enforce that

If I hear that phrase " we didn't come to play" one more time, I will explode.

Very happy to see Bailey use his own methods. Hope sylvia has a full preseason but recent history shows otherwise. Not sure about the addition of Josh Mahoney but ill back it till i see him coach.

so you go by our ladder position to draw your own conclusions about how hard the team works?...ultimately, if we had a smaller injury list we wouldn't have been bottom 4.

Absolutley! There were games early on in the season where our desire to work hard was questionable. Token efforts in chasing, tackling and running to a contest. This has got nothing to do with talent. It's a mindset..........

I've heard that Bailey has the 'mad stare' of any scary coach ...

Hope he fares better than Francis Bourke, who took the ferals to a GF in '82, only to get sacked because the players didn't like the discipline.

I think I would have sacked the players, rather than the coach.

This club has accepted mediocraty for way too long-I liked what i read yesterday. Yes we have some good players but they have to perform at a higher standard. Look at Geelongs year-WHO WOULD HAVE TIPPED THAT 12 MONTHS AGO???? Nobody!! The improvement had a lot to do with self belief

I too like all I hear about Bailey. From his articulate speech, his commanding presence, supposed quick wit, footy smarts, and great teaching ability. He's impressive all round.

And he's already won the masses over. But when he loses 3 in a row he'll be crud round here

It sounds like Bailey will look to engage the players, so that's a good thing.

Bailey's talked about including them in discussions etc, rather than treating them like children.

Definitely sticks in the throat that one. DB needs to improve the side in that area.

I think Mahoney is a great addition.

Here is a guy who's perseverence through a series of set backs was able to land himself a spot on a premiership team as a mature age player.

It shows his absolute love and commitment to not only to his team, but the game as well. Let's hope he can teach some of younger players the value of being on an AFL list.

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form
