Are the favourites for Judd, says Hutchy.

I hate to say it, but he's normally right.

He pulled Bailey from the bag when we'd all tipped Sheedy...

He knows his stuff for the most part.

Nobody knows anything, because Judd himself doesn't know yet. Besides, unlike the other clubs, we don't have a board that leaks like a broken tap. We have kept our intentions quiet and that's how we'll continue to operate. Hopefully Judd appreciates that.

As Gary said on the Footy Show, Judd likes the club, which is why he chose us as one of the 4.

Someone at Essendon told me today that he is definitely going to Essendon, that was after earlier in the week Carlton officials were saying he's already agreed to go to Carlton. I repeat, nobody knows anything!

Spot on. I like the fact that, while other clubs make plenty of noise, we go about our business quietly. Going by the way Judd snobbed Hutchy after he saw Carlton he would certainly appreciate that.

I like Garry being at the "meet and greet" too - he could have a small say in getting him to the club.

interesting thoughts here...

i agree i like that fact that our board isnt leaking. anything we've let on has been on purpose, in interviews etc, there has been no innuedeno about our club, and to me thats a good sign that we are all on the same page, working together, we are smart etc

however, many others have been commenting on how we are the poor cousin behind these clubs, everyone talks about carlton this, collingwood that. could that be because we are doing the right thing and going quietly about getting him, or because we are really un-noticeable?

Posted

Not buying it, yet again.

And if I'm honest, I think the reason our board doesn't leak is because a) nobody knows who they are and B) nobody gives a flying continental what they're up to.

I cannot comprehend how Hutchie would have any idea who Judd prefers. It's perfectly conceivable that he would know about Bailey when he spilt it on the Footy Show, because by that stage our board already knew (even if they don't leak  ). The only people who know where the Juddernaught is leaning towards are Chris Judd, Paul Connors, Twig, and probably a couple of his close mates. And I'll be buggered if anybody Chris Judd calls a mate has time for a piece of paparazzi scum like Hutchie. I concede that he has a good nose for rumours, but it seems incomprehensible that he could know this already. I reckon I know as much as he does about what Chris Judd wants (I know he doesn't want some troll with a microphone following him after hes spent the whole day speaking with doctors and listening to Carlton chumps prattle on).

Another bloke who's put 2 and 2 together and come up with 5.

You think he's decided already?

Not decided. But they know him better than that Craig Hutchison, so they would have a better idea of where his heart is.

I put $80 on Melbourne as the club he his going to yesterday at 9:1. Those were silly odds given that the race is effectively out of a maximum of three clubs. I think it is only out of two, collingw#$%# and the Dees.

If he does come I might even use my winnings to upgrade my membership from a country one to a full one! So come on Juddi show me the money.

Well im a big punter. For example, 200 on the filth tonight.

150 on Travis Johnstone to be Melbourne highest brownlow vote getter.

But im not putting anything on anywhere involving Judd. I dont want to loose money and lose Judd!!! As if possibly not getting him would be bad enough.... but to loose money too..... ouch!!!!

Hate Hutchy all you want, but it is very very rare that he is wrong.

Hutchison always qualifies his predictions with an introduction like "the word is ...". He bends and sways as time progresses, more rumours and information comes to hand, and public opinion alters.

Early on in the Melbourne coaching appointment he was all over Chris Connolly, then he was all over Kevin Sheedy, and he only nominated Bailey the night before when a source or two probably made it clearer to him. So he saves face and claims he was "right" about the appointment.

He is only accurate when it comes to a leaky ship. When faced with one that doesn't leak, he's no more accurate than anyone else and resorts to making stories that appear to have some basis in fact purely from opinions.

The Judd betting (like all betting) is just a reflection of where the money is going, and nothing to do with the likelihood of Judd's real choice. It's the bookies adjusting their odds so they don't lose. All Collingwood firming into $3.50 means is that heaps of people are putting money on Collingwood (they could all deluded or even acting on Hutchison's rumour). But Hutchison will then sound authoritative by saying "the betting is that ...". Then people believe it because "Hutchison says it". It's just what journalists like him thrive on ... he's just football papparazzi.

And sources are not always impeccable. Hutchison and Caroline Wilson on Footy Classified were all over the idea that we wouldn't get Chris Connolly as Football Operations Manager because he lost the Melbourne coaching job, and that he was a certainty to sign in the same role with Carlton for more money than we could afford. It was egg on their face when he took the Melbourne job the very next morning. Garry Lyon must have been having a quiet smirk.

Key is odds mate. Im not gonna put money on Geelong. put 100 on you will profit like 30 bucks. The juice aint worth the squeeze of losing.

Johno is not a bad bet, he odds are strong and if you think back this season, he played very well in games we won, springing to mid come Bulldogs game, Carlton game (3 votes in both) and losing pies game (he should come in for a vote). Key is, votes are going to come few and far between this brownlow, meaning we will only really get votes in games we won or nearly won.

Carlton have the bargaining chips, but if i was Judd, and i was being honest with myself, I would be looking at the Pies as my choice. It's got everything going for it, facilities, money, premiership chance, good staff, etc. But i would have Melbourne before Carlton, for a number of reasons.

1. He would always be seen as chasing the $$$$, not the top prize.

2. The Dome would be my home ground, and he's already stated he wants to play on the G

3. He wouldn't be screwing WC because we do have much to offer them, pick 4, players on the outer etc.

4. Choosing Melbourne over Carlton, i think, would gain you respect in the football world because you'd be going to a project club rather than one that's being propped up by a Millionaire and let's face it, still has issues.

I've said it all along though, if Collingwood are willing to trade for him, and WC are wiling to deal with them than he'll be a Pie next year. But honestly can't picture him as a Blue bagger, which IMO leaves us in second stop to get him.

With the retirement of Clement and possibly Buckley, Burns and Wakelin, the pies can have room in their salary cap. The big questions will be, will Judd nominate them and who can they trade outright and to get high picks, to satisfy the Eagles.

I just have the gut feeling that the wobblies might be more concerned now with shoring up their defences. Clements departure may have derailed the Juddernaut to Filthland :)

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
