Obviously if we're to get Judd, pick 4 would probably be going to WC. But is he the only player we'd consider trading the pick for, or should we be shopping it around to see if anyone is interested, and what should we be trying to get for it?

other than Judd i can't see any reason y we'd trade this pick...

however if we are offered something outstanding from a club trying to secure Judd (Collingwood) then we should atleast look at the offer.

i wouldnt mind

Pick 4 + Matt Maguire for pick 8+26

As much as i want Judd, It's not all doom n gloom if Judd doesn't come.

With Pick 4 we'll pick up a very good player in Ebert or Palmer and that's enough to get me through another boring summer of cricket.

There are many players I'd trade pick 4 for, some examples are:

Judd, Kerr, Cox, Pavlich, Burgoyne, Pendlbury, Jon Brown, Buddy Franklin, Hodge, Foley, T.Cloke etc

But only Judd is available ;)

Here's the way i see it, if we don't get Judd

we use pick 4 on one of Palmer or Ebert

we use Pick 5 (which we obtain through trading Robbo and our 2nd round pick to the Dogs) on Henderson

we use pick 7 (which we obtain through trading Bruce/TJ (preferably Bruce) and Jamar/CJ to Freo) on Rance

Why this Order, well picks 4 & 5 don't really matter as the draftee we don't pick up with pick 4, we get with pick 5.

We do however have to pick Ebert/Palmer and Henderson before Rance, as Essendon require a forward or midfielder more than a backman IMO.

Hence we draft Rance with pick 7.

If Judd doesn't come to melbourne, pick 4 has to stay. Rarely would you consider trading pick 4. Judd is an exceptional circumstance though.

You've nailed it.

If Judd said he wanted to go to Collingwood, would you give Collingwood Pick 4 for, say, Pendlebury?

I don't know too much about the kids in the draft and who we could grab with pick 4, but you would have to seriously think about that offer. Pendlebury is a gun, and he's still a kid. That's why Collingwood won't trade him.

It's foolish to say that if not for Judd, we are not trading pick 4.

If we can't get Judd, and another club can but needs our pick 4, I'm all for ripping that club off!

Will we actually have any players left for next year?

You can't put all your eggs in the one kiddy basket.

I would not trade Pick 4 if it wasn't for Judd.

there could be a great demand for pick 4 from a club who is trying to secure the judd trade... carlton, collingwood and essendon will all be looking for another top selection if judd wants to go to their club... one that comes to mind is Carlton trading Fevola for pick 4... carlton supporters may say that fev is worth more than pick 4, probably true, but if they need it to secure Judd, then it still could happen...

I agree with you Vanlo, having pick 4 maybe a blessing in disguise for us. Essentially it could be looked at by the other clubs, (except for Richmond and Carlton of course) as the number 1 pick, so to speak. For obvious reasons like the blues and the tiges not wanting to part with their picks, then that leaves us with the highest pick, and I am tipping if the price is right the dees will part with it. You never know who we may get if we trade pick 4. Going by our past history in recruiting and trading, wouldn't surprise me if we traded it for someone like Shaun Mcmanus!!!! :)

Are they on the market?

My interpretation of the discussion is who would you trade pick 4 for, the question of whether they're available or not is irrelevant ;)

Question-

what would people think about trading pick 4 for Jed Adcock who looks like quiting Brisbane to return to Victoria.

He is 21 years old, and was desperately unlucky to miss out on All Australian. He is a dashing half back flanker with massive pace and a great kick. After this breakthrough season in 2007, he is basically fully developed and ready to play a huge role for his club.

If we go for a midfielder with pick 4, we will probably go for Ebert, Palmer or Masten. These guyz are highly rated, but are not standouts in the same way hodge or Judd were before they were drafted. These guyz could become great, or could just end up solid players.

Jed is extremely young, and you know you are getting a fantastic player of the future. With the retirement and delisting or Brown and Ward, we are looking for a dashing half back flnkaer with skills.

Is Jed exactly what we need?

If we dont get Judd, he should be our man to go after!

while i rate jed, im not sure if i want to put pick 4 on a half back flanker. i know that might sound silly, but id rather see it used to draft a high quality KPP...

I'm with you 'dean ox', I think we need a real big KPP. We have enough mobile lithe light bodied 191cm 194cm players. If we were to get Judd then that would satisfy the midfield need @ the moment, as long as we don't lose any to trades of our kids. We do need a POWER KPP.

Fair enough. I assumed we were trying to be determine who we could spend this year's pick 4 on, realistically.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
