  1. Whilst I'm not saying anyone has signed for any particular club, my post is more seeking the opinions of fellow demonland members. Should a player in Tom Scully's situation have to declare to their football club that they have in fact signed with another club at seasons end prior to the completion of his current contract? I pose the following arguments to suggest the club should have a right to know if a current contracted player has signed with another club. Whether they release it to the general public/members is another issue. 1) Should the club have the right to know for Salary Cap reasons, if they have a number of players/stars coming out of contract at the end of the season, they will be able to factor in room in the salary cap for a player who's market value would increase in their second contract in the AFL? 2) Avoid speculation so as not to disrupt a football group. 3) Does the club play him given the fact that he will be filling a spot that could be used to develop other kids on the list (Scully's case would be you would play him to benefit the team) I could try and list a few more arguments but will just see how this goes.
  2. First of all please forgive me if i'm out of whack here. I live interstate and obviously don't get the coverage most of you receive in Melbourne. However, from what I have been reading in the papers and this site. This years draft has been labelled as shallow. If that's the case, then why are we at Melbourne persisting in trying to get more picks and not trading anyone or picks for other players. I'm fully aware picks 1&2 are off limits, I would've thought if the right player came along then picks 11 & 18 would be thrown out there as bait. Just a thought.. This is an article from the Melbourne website. Just for info. News Dees look to tighten draft range By Matt Burgan 1:43 PM Tue 06 October, 2009 Melbourne list manager Tim Harrington Today's headlines MELBOURNE is still trying to secure further draft selections in this week's trade period, although any further deals the club is in involved in probably won't occur until Thursday or Friday. Club list manager Tim Harrington said the Demons were pleased to already have four picks in the top 18 of next month's NAB AFL Draft, but gaining more would be sweeter again. "[We're] trying to improve our picking position, really," he told afl.com.au on Tuesday. "We've got 1, 2, 11 and 18, which are great picks, and the others at the moment at picks 34 and 50, so we're just trying to wind those down as best we can. "It'll be the bigger deals that actually go first and then ours later on." After trading midfielder Brock McLean to Carlton for pick No.11 on Monday, Harrington said Melbourne was unlikely to be involved in another trade of that profile. "I would think now that the Brock deal is done, we won't have a whole lot of play in trade week," he said. "But that's what we're doing – ringing [clubs] and getting on the front foot and just finding out what's happening out there, so that we might improve the position of the club. "That's what I'm working on in the next couple of days."
  3. This topic is a what if? What happens if our draft picks don't cut the mustard at AFL level. No I'm not talking about their first years in football as I'm well aware that these kids can take time to develop. However, as we all know, there have been some number 1 draft pick flops in the past. I'm just curious to know what people think about what we should do with pick 11. Considering if we go with all kids and don't entertain the idea of possibly putting our 11th pick on the table, who knows what we may get for it.

  5. I don't know what responses I will get from this topic but here goes. I am a beloved Demons supporter and have been all my life. Anyways, I also enjoy other sports like, dare I say it Soccer. In the English Premier League, I follow Liverpool. However, no where the passion I have for my beloved Dees. There is one thing I admire about Liverpool fans is the way they get behind their team before, during and after the each match. Not saying that Melbourne supporters don't do that. The point I am trying to make is, they have a chant called You'll never walk alone. Every time I hear it, I think how great it would be if the players and opposition supporters could see a crowd of Melbourne supporters doing this chant behind the goals. There is a significant story behind the lyrics, basically stating that no matter what, You'll never walk alone. A way of saying Win, lose or draw the supporters love the club. I would also love to see it as no other AFL club would have something like this. Not saying scrap the Grand old flag tune, maybe have both, i'm only putting this out there to see what responses I get. So please don't hook into me. Before you judge me, have a look at the link I paste in here and imagine to yourself what this would be like at the "G". I'm pretty sure Essendon has an affiliation with Manchester United, maybe we could have something along those lines with Liverpool. This could expand our club even further around the world. Well here is the link, keen to hear what people think. Excuse the fool talking at the start of the clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nfFi-_Hb2A
  6. How does everyone think we went in the trade week??? Thoughts
  7. The cats are getting pick 90!! yes pick 90, what a bargain for the Saints
  8. The cats are getting pick 90!!! Yes pick 90. Don't know whats up with that
  9. Just reported on SEN that Gardiner and King from the cats are being traded.
  10. Just curious as to who to believe. SEN or Channel 7? I hear some people on this site they don't rely on SEN as a trusty source. Thoughts people????
  11. As just reported on the news, and who knows what's true and what's not. I'm just guaging everyones thoughts of what they think is a better deal. First one is: Johnstonee to Brisbane Wood to Collingwood Pick and Rhys Shaw to the Dees Second one: Or Pick 20 and a player from eagles. Which brings me to the last question what player would you want along with pick 20 from the eagles?
  12. YM, why do you persist on posting such garbage, when in fact none of it ever turns out to be correct?
  13. YZE_MAGIC, didn't you bag someone on this very thread I believe for posting garbage? Quite hypocritical of you I say. Cousins will not go in PSD. Where did you get this information????????
  14. Word has it that Jed Adcock is not going to sign with the Lions, don't know exactly why. More than likely contract disputes, but he also may follow the same suit as Judd and want to come back to Vic. Would anyone want him at the club????? <_<
  15. YM, you have put some posts on here that aren't realistic. Judd on our list in '08?? C'mon, he was never coming.
