I was told by a newspaper sports reporter that Godfrey & Ward have been delisted with possibly 2 more to follow has anyone else heard this

No but I'd be a little disappointing if it was true about Ward.

Not too fussed about Godfrey however.

Although, what newspaper & is your post legitimate?

im the opposite way on that- would rather see ward go than godfrey. reckon he was alright this year whereas ward is too old and youngsters overtaken him

I agree, Godfrey did his job this year and with Bartram being so young and getting over a full season of injuries, he's some handy depth to have.

Ward i'll be happy to see out the door, too many younger players that should be taking his spot now.

I agree with you that Godders did his job this year and a bit stiff but it's time we cut these handy depth playas.

We've got too many of those. Hard decisions must be made and if true, it's one small step...

If this is true. Good to see this happen. Have always loved the warden but he has prob gotta go.

And it will be adream come true if we have got rid of Godders, I love him cause he gives it his all every week. But you need more than giving your all in the AFL.

Absolute garbage. Godfrey struggles to be a good player at VFL level. No football brain or skill. Plus every 'shut down' player in the modern game needs to be able to hurt the opposition when you have the ball, ie; K. Cornes, Ling, Sewell, Stenglein. With Godfrey at the centre bounces, we were playing 3 against 4.

Great news if true....3 out of 4 of my wishes since round 6 have come true -

1) the sacking of Daniher

2) Delisting Godfrey

3) Delisting Ward

now I'm hanging out for the 4th - Trade or delist Miller.

Out of the 4. The outstanding is probably the least likely.

But lets not start another Miller thread.

No, lets not, not everyone thinks so badly of him as you do  ........

Can you post a link?

I cant find confirmation anywhere.

There is no link. He says a reporter from The Age told him. Confirmation is the important thing here. Maybe something on news tonight.

Stats mean diddly squat if you're a defender who is unaccountable and your disposal is mostly ineffective.

Daniel Ward had alot better year than Godfrey, He averaged 18.4 disposals a game, In the teams top 6 I think for disposals.

Most as a result of chipping the ball around the backline. Meaningless.

agree with you Madness!

The number of goals from his turnovers is a stat that i would like to see - also how may goals his opponents kicked!

a good servant but time for sauce ward to go!

we need hard decisions and this one is an easy one!!

i would be sooo happy if this is true...

its not because i dont like Ward and Godfrey. i think both are more than servicable and are decent fringe players...i think considering their limited abilities the fact that both have played over 100 games is a credit to their character and determination...(i would have probably kept them on as depth next season)...

however, let's be ruthless. both these players were very limited in ability. Ward and Godfrey are both dreadful disposal and they turn the ball over more times than they hit target.

i have said for year, that MFC's main weakness is that we have about 15 players on our list that arent afl standard! We will never win a premiership with the likes of Brown, Ward, Godfrey and Ferguson in the team. none of these players are young and none are going to improve. so why put games into them when we have the likes of Dunn, Buckley and Frawley who will only improve more and more the more games they play!

be ruthless Bailey because we are starting a new era at MFC. new attitude, new coach, out with the old mediocre players. mediocrity is no longer acceptable. Brown and Ward are both mediocre. they are decent depth (i love em both), but i see it as a positive sign that we no longer accept mediocrity

So whats going on? Is this confirmed?

I dont see a source anywere

I've edited the title so people know that this is still hearsay and not indisputable fact.

That said I hope this is true. I've thought all year that both would stay because they both had (relatively) good years, but the more I think about it the more I agree with the "no skill, no spot on the list" principle. Especially after watching Geelong recently.

If you have woefully bad disposal then IMO it cancels out any benefit you bring to the side and then some.

The newspaper sports reporter doesn't go by the name of Chilliboy does he?

the only reason i doubt this is because i would've thought neville would be the first player to be delisted, unless his lower profile resulted in him not being mentioned...

Absolutely correct.

I am surprised why posters want to hold retain ordinary footballers.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
