Jefferson's best game.

To all the MJ detractors, how about acknowledging this was his best game.

He's only played nine.

Could have easily kicked three goals instead of two.

Needs to stay in and keep building his confidence.

He is quite the talent IMHO.

Wait and see.

We've given Laurie dozens of games let's give this bloke a fair one as well.

Played better than Roo I think.

And for nine games under his belt it's pretty good.

I said I think he has been intimidated on the big stage at times.

Some nong said he shouldn't be playing then.

Some of the greatest players ever were terrified in their first couple of seasons.

Again this bloke has very little game time so take that into consideration.

As his confidence and comfort grows so to will his impact in games.

Playing in such a big game last night and doing a fair job will give him much needed experience and self belief.

And Goody never did him any favors. Every time he showed a sign of improvement, he was dropped the week after. Go figure.

I hope King perseveres with him and sees that he could well surpass Jvr.

Also in those limited games he played remember how bad our fwd delivery was?

Just bomb after bomb. So there's that too.

Strangest limerick I've ever read but I agree Dee Vinci!

It's a resounding YES from me

Jeffo, Laurie, Howes. All played solid to good games and its this part of the list where the majority of our improvement will come from. I agree with leaving them all in for confidence building. I think jeffo has less competition on his spot where as Laurie getting a decent run is a problem - at some point there will be a squeeze with Rivers, Bowey and Salem all fit

G'day, nong here. You have your opinion, I have mine. That's what forums are for. We will revisit later in the year

Listen to Brody Mihocek post game interview on SEN I think…him and Roo lead the forward line; Jeffo. Very quiet as are the half forwards. Tells you he’s not comfortable yet; Mihocek will be gold for these guys. Now he’ll develop.

Laurie played his 15th game last night and has been sub about 10 times, having very little actual game time.

Not sure where you get " dozens of games " from.

Also well done Bill on your best game for the Dees, with now something to build on.

Sorry I misquoted you before. All fixed.

Glad you appreciate it.

Have a great Anzac day if that's the appropriate thing to say on this type of holiday/ occasion.

I thought it may have been @binman 's. Never use twenty words when a hundred will do. lol

Some players just take time.

Jeffo took a long time to look comfortable even at Casey level...but once he did, he could really impact a game. He's never going to be doing heaps of ground level work like Roo does - he's much more a clean catch and kick player who stays closer to goal.

I'm still not sure if he ultimately makes it - the hard work is still in front of him.

But he's given himself a shot, which he deserves a lot of credit for having worked on his game for years in the VFL.

I rated him 4/10 last night. Yes there were some positive signs.

Run through on my rating (just through my eyes)

  • Jeffo goal in qtr 1 (Dees first) was honestly a very soft free kick

  • One good passage where he marked and goaled in 3rd qtr. Good.

  • Dropped 4/5 marks where he got his hands to it. Needed to stick them. That’s still an issue.

  • One tackle for the night. Missed 3-4 tackles. No real 2nd efforts still.

  • Shot for goal in last qtr from 25metres out was horrible. Barely scored a point. A real shank.

  • Intensity at this level is not there.

I do want him to make it. I would like him to get more games and build confidence. We need marking forwards and I think the Dees getting Mihocek in will help Jeffo and JVR.

Just posted a Bill post in the podcast thread. Best game for him by far. It shouldn't suprise people that it takes time to get used to the speed and intensity of the senior level. Big leap from reserves to the first grade. Great game by Bill and Jeffo.

Howes is a very accomplished player. Made a mistake last night (a miskick). Noticed it because he makes so few of them.

Another nong here.

You do him a disservice hailing after a game like that.

He was presenting well at times and got a bit of luck with the umps.

It was the first real step in a long journey. And he now has to work within a Mihocek-JVR paradigm and games won’t be gifted.

Personally, I rate Kentfield higher from what I have seen. But they are all both fledgling.

Drive by on Laurie was undeserved. He has not had a good run of games and had a really promising half last night.

Careful, sam; you'll be prosecuted!

(On here, definitely!)

It was an ok game, but what is promising is that he generated a number of scoring shots for himself and was also involved in other scoring chains.

I'd rather have a forward who finds a way to impact the scoreboard in a ok performance, than one who doesn't.

So lots of promise.

the combo of jvr + el jefe + checkers would appear to be working well to me

gawn even rested forward last nite after he got tunnelled and it still seemed to work okay

Quick ball movement forward is the key and not bombing the ball on their heads is also key

Resulting in a lot of 1 on 1's or unopposed marks in the f50. And we're staying away from the boundary line when going forward

A complete contrast to previous years

What is most surprising is how quickly we've changed ... the buy-in has been remarkable

And that can only help players like Jeffo. The ball is now in his court
