Henderson will only get a game if they’re absolutely scraping the bottom of the barrel

They are if Cross is fit then I would have put in Cross ahead of Jefferson.

At least the game will be fun to watch given new players and heaps of kids

With Riv, Bowey, CJ injured and AMW still finding his 'footy feet' we are pretty light on down back.

Big Moose was starring at VFL and will be a good foil for Gawny. Both can run forward.

Jeffo deserves a game showing good VFL form and is mobile enough to play high half forward as well as kick goals.

It's Jeffo time.

Miocek surely gets the defensive forward job on Andrews. You need a smart player on him and it's why Melky has always got a hold of him.

I'm still not convinced on Kolt as a defender. I actually think he's a far better tagger or even a forward.

I get Jeffo. Pickett fence is dancing. Jeffo will outshine Roo in a year. Big call I know. it's a question of roo going backwards and Jeffo finding his confidence on the big stage since Goody didn't help it.

But definitely don't understand Laurie.

One game...,0nly 12 touches...2 tackles...no marks...no scores or involvements.

Tmac maybe...although he took ten marks last game and was getting better.nid he injured?

Milkshake....gotta feel for the bloke.

The others Im not sure about. Haven't seen enough.

I'm concerned where our goals will come from?

Hopefully young Jeffo.

Not confident about Roo who has gone back into his shell and Fritta back to his consistent inconsistency.

Maybe Brody.

Who knows.

Maybe the Picketts will both kick bags if our talls don't get out marked.

Outs. Lindsay (injured/managed) Melksham (injured) Tmcd (omitted) Salem (injured)

UNAVAILABLE- Bowey, Rivers, Viney, Jiath, Lindsay, Salem (all potentially in best 23), Melksham, McAdam , Campbell, Johnson

whats happened to johnson now? saw he was out of the vfl assumed it was to be a carry-over emergency tbh?

Loving the look at our next generation of players, but this coming against the Lions gives me the heeby-jeebies.

So glad Moose, Jeffo and Taylor are in, and stoked to see the Moose. I reckon he will surprise many by being AFL ready. I thought we might have needed AMW because of our injury riddled defense.

i dont think its really a surprise to anyone whos payed any attention, hes been best on every week and beat xerri in PS, its a known fact he is afl ready

I’m thinking 15 players under 25 playing on Sunday? Bris 10..I’ll ask a question..Pies won..Carlton just lost .Bulldogs thrashed ..we’ll possibly lose to Bris ( want to show fight) but would you take our list over the above 3 teams..I def would. I’m excited to go Sunday & watch our young talent but I’ve tempered my expectations for this year . Realistic more than optimistic but I’m loving the ride ..

There must be a twist with your obsession for Jeffo, your going to come out & say I’m Jeffo’s DAD after he has a good game!

Kentfield confirmed Will not play

Yeah, but at least The MOOSE 🫎 has got a gig.

And good on your boy Jeffo - hope he plays well and builds his game at AFL level. I do see the potential there.

No doubt Kentfield will get an opportunity sooner or later.

think i'd take the dogs list over ours, Darcy, Croft, Naughton, Richards, Sanders, Freijah whilst still lacking the same KPD is a bit more secure for the future than ours which has more untapped talent

I'm expecting the ins to be Jefferson, Laurie and Taylor.

I can't see Max and Heath lining up in the same game this year - AT ALL.

If they share the ruck equally, it means we get less production from the best player in our team.

If it's 80-20 in favour of Gawn, then I can't see the point and value of playing Heath - he'll only play about 25% of game time.

Well we've got Max and Heath in the same side.

Incidentally, even if Gawn doesn't play, it's likely we'll still have Max and Heath play in the same side!

Glass half full.

If you take the side that played the Suns and ignore last week’s mess, it’s basically 773 games out for 186 in (with 175 of those from Fritta).

Truthfully, I don’t think we lose a heap of recent impact beyond experience. TMac is a step or two off it, Salem’s been getting it without hurting sides, and while Melksham had a day out against the Suns, I’d still take Fritsch for role and upside and I'm adamant you can't play both. Lindsay’s form has been patchy and Jefferson preseason and VFL form deserves a look. We get Petty back where he belongs, and an in-form Moose to support Gawn and potentially cameo forward.
My concern is the shift in the balance of the side, particularly our small and half backs for bounce and to contain Cameron, Lohmann, Rayner, Bailey.

Bring the same energy, intensity and execution from the Suns game against the champs and it’s a genuine free swing. Let's see if and where it lands.

On this point, I actually think we're likely to see more of this going forward as well.

Just my take, but I think things have changed somewhat since the Grundy days. At that time, Gawn was what 4 years younger and we were in the window to win another flag mode.

Fast forward to the present day and I even think Gawn would acknowledge that he's closer to the end, we're in a rebuild phase and will be more willing to sacrifice some of Gawns output to get The Moose an opportunity to establish himself.

I also think the 5th bench spot has resulted in more teams playing 2 genuine rucks and I think that actually impacts Gawn's ability to out work a single main ruckman.

I think the Moose also has more potential to impact up forward than Grundy, which is partly why the Grundy experiment failed, because he didn't have much forward ability.

Also as much as I actually really quite liked Petty's impact in the ruck, bringing in Moose will allow Petty to focus on being the quality key backman I think he can be and we need him to be. The past few weeks, he's been a bit of a utility type player, whilst we've had a gallant, but lacking in mobility T Mac down back - it's been a bit half pregnant and I'm not sure that has worked.

Essendon beat us with possession football - 300 uncontested, 140 marks. Brisbane is twice as good at this - things could get ugly unless we took learnings from last week.

He’s Clayton Oliver’s dad

Looking forward to this game to see the response against the best team in the competition. Love to see us win the first quarter, haven’t won one all year. Most importantly for me I want to see a massive improvement in the tackling intensity ( Gold Coast game) we cannot allow too much uncontested possession as they will absolutely carve us up. Pressure must be amped up from our forwards we need to get the balance right down there, love the offensive side of Melksham and Fritsch but they let us down defensively. Obviously Melksham out for this one but a bit concerned that we may be one tall too many. Bring the heat Demons, the effort and attitude things and see where it takes us.

Very happy to see big MOOSE in, we need to plan for the future and his aggression will be an asset. Not expecting a win tomorrow, a very young side vs the premiership favourites it could get messy on the scoreboard, but as long as the boys have a real crack all game, as we have for our other MCG matches you can’t ask any more

Um no, but I reckon I've seen his dad at Casey!

  • PREVIEW: Brisbnae

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
