6 Gawn.

5 Steele

4 Pickett (although I hesistate with so many turnovers)

3 Langford

2 Chandler

1 Turner

I dunno, feel like I'm giving out votes for anyone who didn't [censored] their pants.

We stopped. I do believe it was 13 goals to 2 after the midpoint of the second quarter, and we hadn't seemed great before that either.

Bank the zero points. Move on.

6 - koz (would have been a lot worse without him)

5 - disco

4 - petty

3 - gawn

2 - chin

1 - steele

6, Pickett

5, Petty

4, Gawn

3, Sharp

Anything under Petty played average. Anyone not listed awful.

6.Kozzie

  1. Steele

    1. Gawn

      3.Turner

      1. Tholstrup

        1. Langford

Pickett - 1,2,3,4

Petty - 2 Qtrs

Rest of team - putrid performance

Gawn beaten by 2 VFL players today, cant be great every week, and definitely cant carry us , give him a chop out.

#Max Heath

6- Steele - battled all day with ZERO help - 6 clearances- 6 score involvement- 28 disposals

5- Howes - another good game - 14 touches at 92%DE- tackles and spoils were effective

4- Kozzzy … for his 2 goals and for trying … but his turnovers and missed

3- Gawn … for his heart … but his hitouts and knocks to no one was disappointing

2- Petty… for contested marks only

1- Sharp for first half

Lots of poor to very poor performances. Lots of players looking down and without any fight or smart play. Too many to name.

Honestly the other 17 players were the ones to watch their moments and be very disappointed.

Anyone giving votes to Chin, Langford, Kolt didn’t watch the game.

I can only come up with three that are worthy of votes today

Kozzie (loved that he had the most tackles on the ground today!)

Gawn

Steele (albeit very quiet fourth quarter where he had a lot of friends)

6- Steele - battled all day with ZERO help - 6 clearances- 6 score involvement- 28 disposals

5- Howes - another good game - 14 touches at 92%DE- tackles and spoils were effective

4- Kozzzy … for his 2 goals , and for trying … but his turnovers and missed crucial tackles

3- Gawn … for his heart … but his hitouts and knocks to no one was disappointing

2- Petty… for contested marks only … goalkicking is not near AFL standards

What an utterly disappointing game to watch, they looked like us and we looked like them, so many underachievers this week.

Kozzi

Steele

Howes

Sparrow

Turner

Gawn - 11 clearances

In contrast to last week I had to scratch my head to find anyone worthy, but here goes ...

6 K Pickett
5 Steele
4 Gawn
3 Petty
2 Langford
1 XL

Our best 6 weren't hard to find. Did they play to the standards they have set for themselves? - not at all. But full credit to Essendon. Brad Scott certainly has no problem coaching against the Demons. Today was his 14th win from 16 attempts.

Gawn -6, our best yet again. Nullified by the Bombers game plan as much as his opponent but a big game nonetheless - 11 clearances, 19 contested and a goal.

Pickett - 5 . A good game but his disposal efficiency of 42% hurts when 21 of his 28 possies are uncontested.

Steele - 4. Solid today and workmanlike is really his go. There's not a lot between his best and worst. Which means most of his games are going to look the same.

Lever - 3. 8 intercepts, 10 marks. Reasonable effort.

Turner - 2. Weight of numbers told in the end but he busted a gut.

Langford - 1. Only for his second half. He was absolutely non-existent until half time.

Agree!

I can’t see how some people could include Tholstrup, Langford, or Lindsay in the votes. Encouragement awards, anyone?

Very dispiriting performance.

Yuck! We looked listless from the grandstand, and I doubt I’ll be in any hurry to watch the replay in search for a spark of inspiration.

  1. Steele -worked very hard all game, without adequate support. Very commendable game!

5. K. Pickett - lots of ‘electricity’ but too many ‘blackouts’.

  1. Howes - starting to find his niche.

  1. Gawn - the constant scragging and blatant interference might be starting to wear him down.

  1. Turner - out sized and outnumbered but valiant.

  1. Lever - respectable for his 10 defensive marks.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
