GAMEDAY: Rd 05 vs Essendon

It’s gameday baby. Pumped!

There will be some serious emotional damage if we lose to these [censored] again.

Go Dees!

If this game was at the G then I think we would absolute wipe the pants off this mob… but something about us in gather round brings things back a tad.

We’ve been blessed with great footy conditions with our games thus far so it’s going to be interesting to see how we deal with a ground that will be heavy under foot & with possible rain throughout.

Don’t think this game will be a spectacle. Don’t be too cute today Dee boys, today’s not the day. Tough footy / territory footy / pressure footy.

I bet you also claim to not have a favourite child too.

The weather makes for a different test of the game plan. To me that will be an interesting watch.

I’d like to see Kolt line up on Merrett. Merrett is so clever at finding space and only needs a second to hurt the opposition. Kolt could learn a lot from following him around.

This is a big test of our leaders as we should win this.

Beating Essendon in Gather Round for a change, won’t that be the sch!ttt. Beating Essendon period, for that matter.

Words can’t adequately express how I feel about Essendon. There aren’t adjectives in our lexicon that can sufficiently convey the intense hatred I have for them. In the absence of such this will have to suffice:

GO OUT THERE AND GIVE ‘EM SHEER HELL DEES!

MAKE THEM SUFFER LONG AND HARD.

GIVE THEM 120 MINUTES OF PAIN AND HUMILIATION.

Us by any margin, the bigger the better.

15yo me is hoping the fat slags who bullied her mercilessly at school are at the match today sitting in torrential rain watching their team get brutally taken apart by the mighty Dees.

Nice to have a Saturday game!

Great day of sports watching

Masters as live now thru to 1pm game time.

Get my bets on the ponies.

Races kick off 11:45 am

Game 1:10pm

Races replays during the breaks, more after the game finished

Post game, 3 group ones in Sydney, includng the excitement machine Pride of Jenni enjoying the trailing wind - can they catch her (I hope not).

And Australia's best horse, the u defeated Autumn Glow gunning for her 12th straight win in the Queen Elizabeth, which this year is stronger than last year's Cox Plate.

Then watch the replay of our victory over the bombers.

Gold.

While hrr boyfriend has just dumped her for eating the last dons Frank.

Your hatred of Essendon really moves me.

I think a career in motivational speaking awaits us both.

Mine for revving up anger towards the pies and clearly yours for giving non dons fans a strong reason to live.

I'm so excited for today.

There's a beautiful expression that "the opposite of love isn't hate, it is indifference".

Collingwood are an enemy, a toxic liability to Australian football, a combination of grotty inbred sneering inferiority and the unaccoubtability of the rich moron shielded by family lawyers and devoid of civic virtue. It is a duty of all football supporters to do harm to the Collingwood football club.

Essendon are an inconvenience. With due respect to Ghosty's personal glorious vendetta, success this week is to play our way, earn the four points and move on.

Fact is, if Essendon were dropped from the AFL the only thing we'd miss would be the memes.

Demons by 50 with the coach putting the focus on winning every quarter and learning to not let inferior teams get a look in.

in an ideal world i would like about half a dozen teams to finish 11th - not good enough to make finals (nor wildcard round) nor get a top 5 pick to help their rebuild

Bloody hell bin that’s a full day. Enjoy especially lets hope we enjoy the footy the most.

For those of us with long memories my distain for Essendon eclipses everyone after the 2000 grand final

  • Troy Simmonds Taken from the field on a stretcher after being hit high by Michael Long just before half-time.

  • Brad Green Punched in the throat off the ball early in the match.

  • Jeff Farmer Played through the match with broken ribs.

And 26 years later GO DEES!

Big watch on umpire Nicholls #15 today. Ever since Maxy thumped a bad bounce that was recalled.

Am I only one who hates Gather Round? Means instead of going to the MCG to watch the Mighty Demons pound Essendon live I have to be stuck at home watching on my ancient Samsung telling my children to shut up…..anyhow I hope we give them the smacking they richly continue to deserve

I have Bolting Blue in race 1 Werribee, should run well, would be a great double with the Dees.

It's Game Day and the Demons are in Adelaide for Gather Round to take on the winless Bombers who are on a 17 game losing streak. What do you want to see from the Dees today?

No mercy !!

Of all the teams I hate.

Must win game.

Wow, have you forgotten Collingwood are part of the league !

I am also hoping for a win.

But with some mentioning large wins I don't think that will be the case.

If it rains this normally evens out teams and makes the game a slog fest. Hopefully the Demons can adapt to a wet style of football.

We should win but it might be ugly.

A good way to start the season. I believe there is more importance in a win today, away from home nit on a dry track and against a team that everyone had written off, would be a statement.

I am sure others would disagree.

Good luck the Demons.

Essendon on the canvas and the Dees with expectations to win. What could possibly go wrong.

This is the game that will start to show me how much our mental fragility has strengthened. Last year we lose this.

Interested to see how much we back up our manic pressure from last week from the get go this week.

Also how we choose to use Melksham (congrats on 250) and Fritsch together and what it does to the forward dynamic.

better with them both in forward 50m gives us more options, fritter to play up the ground and stream forward

Are you serious?? You hate them more than the filth??

I do to. The arrogance of their fans after the 2000 gf, how they thought they'd go on this gf winning streak, the whole peptides saga with them saying we didn't take anything illegal, their obsession with hird.

It's hysterical how far they've fallen

Dont you just love game day, scotch cigs, pies LETS GO DEES

I absolutely do.

I think it was @old55 who posted once that he was raised to hate Collingwood, but learned to hate Essendon through experience.

Correct. Although Collingwood have put their nose in front again in recent times.

It's raining steadily here atm but hoping it will clear up by gametime. Either way I'm looking forward to this. Go Dees💪

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show.
