POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Carlton

On Sparrow

He has always been aggressive and giving his all to create pressure, but he had this horrible habit of getting possession, looking for options (Prior opportunity) then getting tackled and giving away a free kick. This week he knew the options beforehand and got rid of the ball quickly. The only times he kept possession was when he was in space and moving quickly. I hope he continues that way.

Then that is very disappointing on both levels

Max Gawn said they weren't there lol. How clear cut does that need to be.

Refreshing to hear from the horse's mouth rather than rumours. He said more than that. Said Clarrie was going to come, changed his flights to do so, had been in contact over weekend but was "ill on Sunday".

Nice of the team to give Michael Evans a trip down memory lane while there for TMax - had more than a bit of 2013 against GWS about it!

Its amazing to think he was given very little time under Simon in the guts.

Clearly didn't trust him inside and has now shown he can play inside and feels like a new recruit all of a sudden.

Kudos to Kingy and the coaching staff.

Cheers 😁

Not really surprised how Sunday transpired. Similar pattern to Sydney and Richmond games and much of last season.

I never like watching my team lose but in this instance there are positives:

  1. Great day for Max Gawn on his 250th, one of my favourite players and he with Kozzie and Fritsch were (and admittedly a couple of dodgy decisions leading to goals helped) instrumental in this great comeback win for the Dees;

  2. A big nail in coaching coffin of Michael Voss. He simply can't continue coaching the Blues in 2027. I have immense respect for him as a legendary player, a good bloke but he is not a head coach for the current style of football being played. He either is too stubborn or hasn't been able to adapt to the changeing nature of modern footy. He can't make rapid in game changes on the run either. In another era where contested footy was more crucial it might have been different but we live in the here and now.

Hoping this Iran nonsense dies down so I can then go on along Euro holiday and avoid a chunk of the rest of this season 😁 [being a sucker for punishment I will still probably watch games online]

Fair play to you for presenting No.31. It's fair to say that the only people who like Carlton are Carlton supporters so you've given yourself a tough gig mixing it with this motley crew but we appreciate your candour. Rest assured as the lesser of two evils we'll all be on the Blues bandwagon when you play the pies. I hope you get your wish to visit Europe. Who knows, you might bump into Vossy!

Didn’t we owe them that after we [censored] the bed 2 years ago in the last two minutes. Clear easy kicks no panic. That was the other side this time

Neither were there, OMac was in WA and Clayton who knows.

?? Just not true. A bit less of late, especially in 2025 when players like Kozzie and Windsor started getting more on-ball time and CBA's, but prior to that Sparrow was a regular at centre bounces - albeit behind the usual suspects of course.

Not sure why this constant rewriting of history around the Goodwin years. Lots of Outcome and Hindsight Bias in play methinks.

Someone should send Carlton a couple of kilograms of Nappy San, it is known to prevent fade.

That was very good... been working on it for a while? 😘

His best, most impacful and influential game he has played for us.

Indeed.

Under goody, Sparrow was basically the chop out for viney for 5 seasons

I could watch that all day

From the non-plussed Blues player (#20?) having no idea what to do

And then the awareness of Kozzie sizing up 3 or 4 options. His mind was in overdrive

Except that it has been noted on this thread that he was there. And a number of other players not in that photo.

She did not ask enough people that question .

You put more weight in comments made on this thread (second hand information mind you) than I do.

He wasn't, neither was Trac or Omac even though its been reorted that Omac was there and Gawn confirms this.

But damn you Caro for reporting factual information.

Obviously Gawny doesn't know what he's talking about because Clarry and OMac were definitely there 🤣

Gawny is clueless.

He should know supporters know better.

Were there any after game photos or videos of the 250 celebration?

Would have been good to see who rocked up etc.

I saw Harmesy was out there which was awesome to see.

Pretty cool that Spargo was there and Howe especially as he’s been away from the club for so long.

To be a good side Bin must continually turn the magnets and list over. still think JV can have defensive fwd mid rotation role for 2 more years

Finally watched the replay and glad I did because walking away from the ground on Sunday I was baffled as to just how we managed to over run them like that in the fourth.

Besides the obvious crew of Koz, Max, Sparrow and Steele getting ontop of them in the midfield I thought Windsor was excellent in the second half. The decision making is still a work in progress but boy his ability to cover ground and evade to get good disposal is terrific already. Culley also really impacted the contest physically in that last quarter and was clean with ball in hand.

Howes was also terrific, I thought. He's really important as that medium/tall mid, another who has evasive skills and could be more damaging as he grows in confidence. He's only 22 and feel like he's got a really good chance to cement his spot over the next few weeks if he keeps this up.

Also we kicked out 7 last quarter goals with 12ish minutes to go. Incredible!

Well said, Rab. @No. 31 is always welcome on this forum regardless of who he barracks for. He’s never nasty, never childishly rude and never bullies anyone. Certain individuals on here could do well to take a leaf out of his book.

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
