Kozzie says hi

Kozzie will fly for the mark.

kozzie will do the defensive run downs.

Kozzie will rove well from the ruck taps.

Kozzie will crumb off the back of the pack.

Kozzie will distribute from the midfield.

Whereas Sharp will work hard to get front and centre and read it off the talls.

I saw Sharp do his best work, when the coaches ask the talls to bring the ball to ground. That's my impression from the training sessions.

I am hoping that training is a reflection of how they play.

The only selection I don’t like is leaving Heath out. Gawn needs support but let’s see how it pans out.

Bingo! and thats why,in the absence of ability, he doesn't cut it!

I'd prefer to see melksham over sharp but I'll trust the new coach

Yeah that’s my only query on selection.

Sharp was awful in his last 7 games of last year only managing 0.5 while Melksham was nailing 52 metre goals against Collingwood on the Friday night stage. There’s no substitute for class.

It’s a new season and chapter so we’ll see how it pans out.

Lol. I didn't even need to back-track through the thread to know that you were talking about Chandler 🙄

Thing is that he is more than just a role player though. He's an elite endurance athlete, that also has a bunch of great footy skills and character attributes to go along with it.

  • Hard and tough

  • Does the team things, chases, does a bunch of unrewarded running and tackles hard

  • Takes a strong overhead mark (particularly given his size, but even irrespective of that he's still strong in this aspect)

  • On average, he kicks goals regularly enough to be one of our most prolific scorers.

  • One of (if not the) most reliable player we have for a set shot on goal anywhere from 0 - 50m out from goal

I'd easily rate him in the same league as Nibbler, if not ahead of him at an earlier stage if his career.

Face facts Pickett, he's well entrenched in our best 23 for all those reasons, if not more and he'd need to lower his colours alot over a number of weeks for that not to be the case.

Even if Jefferson was fit, Chandler would still be getting a game ahead of him.

Kind of with you a bit. (Not the Chandler part, his output absolutely is comparable to mid tier small forwards) but I do wonder if the appetite for runners amd smalls is a bit too much. Key positions can get injured, have off days, opposition has more marking power than expected etc. You're left with limited flexibility.

But as he's a new coach, willing to check out the experiment. Also, its fun playing the drinking game you take a shot every time Sharp coughs the ball up in traffic.

BINGO ..

Ahead of Nibbler?? Nup not even a poor mans

As to comparing to Jeffo?? Get real two totally different players.

You are comparing small to tall.

When Chandler gets 25 plus possesions and kicks 2-3 goals he will remain.... ordinary and surplus to needs.. end of story

Maybe hairline fractures heal faster? I had a broken arm right at the shoulder (fell out of a tree) and that felt like it took forever to heal; also modern surgery techniques probably accelerate the healing process.

The worst thing about my broken arm though, was that while I was waiting to go for surgery (Children’s Hospital in Melbourne), Rolf Harris came through giving all the kids wobble boards and promoting Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport!

And as for the ‘wobble boards’ they were just a piece of friggin’ Bernie Board, that he hadn’t even bothered to sign! Was a scumbag then, and right up to the end!

Now that is showing your age, HT!

Yeah, I get that's your new favourite excuse, but the fundamental proposition that you need to admit is that Chandler IS currently a best 23 player and Jeffo is NOT.

That all said, I see definite potential for Jeffo to soon become a best 23 player and hope he delivers on that. He's also a good few years younger than Kade, so it's also not a fair match in that regard either.

But reality is that one player has jumped over that hurdle and the other is yet to.

Guess we'll see at the end of their careers what relative contributions they make to the mighty Demons. If either or both of them play in another flag for us, I'll be more than happy with that.

Do we really need to play a song after every goal ? 'Country road' and 'Sweet Caroline' gets annoying after a while...but that may just be me as I get older and grumpier...

I’ll go a step further and say that they have a negative effect.

I’ve noticed at games that a blaring (often sh*thouse) tune after goals can actually discourage the crowd from making their own noise. Why bother cheering when you can’t even be heard over the Venga Boys?

If it was me I’d just ask for a few car horns.

Nibbler was 💯 just a role player also. They are on very similar trajectories

That and all the blaring pre and half time entertainment noise is bloody horrible. It's so bloody loud that you literally have problems having a conversion with the person next to you alot of the time - do the AFL and the stadium management people not realise this? Or maybe that's just how they do it in Merica, so we must follow?

‘And water is wet. News and sport at 11.’

The club would hope to have the next ruck on the list and we should use this year to see if it is Heath. He can also learn to play forward which will be more and more important with these new ruck rules.

But Max and the club can continue to want AA jackets if they want, I just don’t care in a year when we will win 8 games.

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season.
