Back in the day, that role was described as the kick behind the play type

Remembering that a lot of the onus in the midfield will fall on to some relative newcomers (Windsor, Lindsay, Langford, Kolt and even Culley)

If we have more than a few half forward injuries I'd just throw him forward and tell him to use his competitive spirt and athleticism to do his best. Richmond did that last year with Luke Trainor. I don't think it would hurt him as a short term thing, and the way he reads the play and attacks the ball at half back would make him a bit of fun across half forward, at least in getting the footy.

We actually have an abundance of taller guys that can play down back so I think they are just taking their time as he missed valuable practice game time

We have Petty, Lever, TMac, Turner, CJ, Taylor and Howes.

The speed at which players were retreating after a turnover was insane. The focus to set the defence was huge.

That will settle down after a few rounds I suspect but teams like Coll and Bris were happy just to chip it around their backline, changing angles and waiting for the right angle kick before pulling the trigger.

Interesting watch and the better drilled teams seemed to come out on top.

Does anyone know if we've gone back to having a day's break between our main training session and our Captain's run or are we still doing the main training, then captain's run then game day (i.e. 3 sessions in a row)?

I just don’t rate St Kilda at all. We can beat them and beat them well by around 3-4 goals.

PS I think you forgot Culley, as a mid and or forward. Strong, fairly quick, high flying and a good kick.

I’d rather that Rivers is played in the midfield, not back. I’m sleepless in Dulwich Hill, and totally wired out of necessity, so, at the risk of making a fool of myself, I believe that Howes could be useful, based only on his pre season, which I thought was not too bad at all…he attacks the ball and provides run and carry; I’d love to see him and/or Jiath(?) linking up with Windsor, to get the ball quickly into our forward fifty.

100% Rivers will play midfield but I think he starts down back and will play down back when he’s not in the midfield or not having a spell on the bench.

You can aways get an indication of the crowd the day before the game, when they release the GA areas on the MCG website

If they close the 4th level of the Warne stand (which has only become a recent thing for MFC games) you’re looking at a sub 40,000 crowd.

I expect high 30’s based on previous games between the 2 sides at the G.
