Did any Melb listed players play in the praccy match over the weekend

No - Casey listed and some ring-ins from Berwick's seconds.

Saints will have a monkey on their b ack this week with us now, whether it will do them good or not will remain to be seen.

Would love to get a win that would be just lovely!

Can’t wait til we are up by 6 goals at 3/4 time so i can relax

Meanwhile there won’t be hordes of Saints fans packing out the trains at Jolimont. No, this time they’ll stay to watch us win. 👊🏼

Yeah the Mighty Dees!

Real pity Luker got injured.

If we only have Mihocek and JVR, we have to play Moose, especially against his old side and now with 5 on bench.

He is a chop out for Max and a big guy up forward they will have to counter.

So who is tagging Nas? Langers?

Perryman probably won Pies the game he did such a good job on him.

Be interesting to see if King is a believer in tagging?

Sharp!

Moose is down for this! I told him someone on here said they’d love for us to win with a goal after the siren, kicked by Steeley after a pass from Moose (or vice versa). I said I know that’s your former team but us supporters wish much pain on them. Moose said, Nah we’d be TOTALLY down for that scenario… bring it on!

I reckon Mihocek, JVR and Fritsch is enough.

With Marshall out, their next tallest forward is Sharman 193cm then Owens 191cm although they will most likely bring Keeler in at 198cm.

Lever 194cm Turner 194cm Howes 191cm Petty 197cm. We could probably move Petty or Turner up forward for more height if needed.

Might well be that sliding doors opportunity for the Moose. He may surpise/delight a few.

Might not be the line up we thought going in but I think we'll acquit ourselves ok.

Their first true dinks game as Dees.. ( for points ) ... and it's against the EX .

Universe has humour ;)

Is Keeler a forward? I thought more a ruckman/key back but I don’t know a lot about him….not exactly a big name goalkicker yet at any rate

I’d prefer Sparrow tag Naz. Rivers is going to be 1 of our main drivers out of the middle this year. Not sure Sparrow can play back, so I assume Howes gets him when he plays forward

Not quick enough. Langdon good fit

Pretty sure forward

He did kick 3.1 against us last year in round 12

You can train all you want but nothing compares to a game of footy for building match hardened fitness.

The interrupted PS game vs Richmond hasn’t helped

Totally agree.

They've now been able to review their game against a good team in a high pressure environment and make adjustments.

We come in with a new coach, new game plan and only practice games against lower ranked teams who to be honest played like witches hats.

Who would know how we will go this week, what are the realistic expectations.

I wouldn't be writing the Saints off in this one and I wouldn't be writing us off if we don't win it.

Interesting times ahead.

Sharman is their full forward. They have no forward presence. They won the inside 50 count by more than 20 yet had the ball rebound out with ease.

Their midfield is also average.

no idea how they are red hot favourites against us??

Playing opening round is a 3-5 goal head start and our most proven midfielder is a guy they just paid to leave (purely for on field reasons).

So whilst I think they’ve spent millions of dollars to finish 9th they should be too good for us.

Saints look vulnerable. Collingwood missing two key backs and they couldn’t score. Reckon we could catch them sleeping early and pile on a few goals with our new ball movement. First chance for our youth to really prove themselves.

I saw absolutely nothing last night to suggest that. Have no doubt theyll be better for that run but I don't see the elements of their game style that would make me think we can't cover it. Their entry into and craft in the arc was abysmal. Once the Pies got a little bit of a foothold they had their measure

We now have speed out of the middle and run with intent, play with verve.

Saints will have to cover Checkers, Roo and Fritta. Good luck there ( well..actually no... lol )

Not sure who Lyon has to, or can use to , cover both Picketts.

I thought TDK was bog average

Saints looked scared of the corridor...

Not suggesting we're a shoe in... but i think we'll take the choccies here.

Be an interesting game

Or Sharpy he has an elite tank.

We've never used him as a defender or tagger in the past so I doubt this will be the game/opponent to try it...

You might be right, I did forget about Langdon

Agree. Langdon on NWM for mine. A proven tagger (yeah, OK, one game).

Sharp's game is centred on getting free of his man - not tagging.

Langdon spent time on Nas in Alice Springs and got flogged. If only Howes had Sparrow's toughness, or Chandler was four inches taller..

Wonder what we might glean from training this week 🤔 👀

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
