Sam McClure's 2026 A-Graders

I agree with Sam about not having Kozzie in the side.

A player that just got selected in the All Australian and had three x 5 goal/24 possession games isn't A grade worthy.

Sure Sam, one of these players is A grade and one of them isn't.

Stay on 9 Sam. For losers

McClure wouldn't know a good footballer from a good haircut. And he's got neither.

You're kidding if you base ratings off an exhibition game...

For everyone complaining that Pickett isn't on the list...read the article. McClure makes clear that to be on his list of A-graders, you need to have performed at an A-grade level for at least two seasons. He notes that Pickett will be on the list next year if his 2026 is as good as his 2025.

Now you have just gone and taken all the fun out of Sam’s post.

And he claims Gawn may be the best ruck ever and certainly the best ever Melbourne player. (he said it, not me.)

The only thing I would argue is that Kozzie is very hit and miss. When he’s on, my god is he on. But sometimes he doesn’t turn on at all in a game or only does for a quarter or two.

Hopefully this is hit season and he makes his stamp on the game.

McClure is D grade

He’s certainly showing signs of D-gradation.

Like the 21 finals. Red hot in the PF and MIA in the GF.

Toby Greene fascinates me.

I dislike him intensely. And because I'm not a rational creature, that dislike manifests in accentuating his negatives and ignoring his positives. Even still...

...when I watched Kingsley tear him apart in the half-time team meeting I was thinking each point, as blunt to the point of nastiness as each one, was correct.

I can appreciate Greene is a good footballer, but he has never struck me as a captain and is defensively hugely questionable. I wouldn't have screamed his flaws at him in front of the entire playing group and I certainly wouldn't have released those criticisms publicly, but I can understand how frustrating they would be for a coach...

...and why they make him a LONG way from an A-grader.

But, no, there is is every top 50 list... and has been for years.

Is my contempt just blinding me or is the "Toby tax" actually the 25% extra credit he gets from Herald Sun and Fox Footy journalists for being a misunderstood tiprat-made-good, the perfect antidote to a world gone woke (where woke means preferring people don't spit on you)?

They're not.

You need to read their post again.

A bit left field, but I’ve heard commentators say Brandon Starcevich is a genuine superstar, but because he plays a lockdown defender position he largely goes unnoticed. Essentially never gets beaten? (I don’t watch many Brissy games so I’m only going off what I’ve heard).

No A+ rating possible if you’re a lockdown defender? A REALLY REALLY good lockdown defender?

That explains Pickett not being there. It doesn’t explain Dangerfield being on the list nor to a lesser extent Sicily Petracca and C Camreron.

Kosi, statistically, has out performed Charlie in most key categories over the last two seasons. McClueless is exactly that.

Can’t stand this guy. Prefer we don’t even give his article any oxygen at all. All about the “clicks”.

I think Will Ashcroft is A Grade, his dozen games in 2024 must’ve cost him a spot.

I find this really surprising to be honest, besides Dusty, Toby Greene would have to be up there in this recent era as one of the most consistently damaging forward/mids. Whatever flaws he has as a player or person, he single handed wins games of footy. He’s kicked 233 goals in his last 103 games…

If Kozzie can kick 2.2 goals a game for the next 103 games, I’d say he’s an A-grader, haha

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
