Cricket Australia rejecting spin?

Now we've seen everything. (Just a little joke there, see what I did?)

But seriously, not taking the chance to develop our spin bowling options will haunt us. There's going to be a series soon enough where pitches favour spin or simply the opposition batters get their eye in against pace and we'll having nothing else to give.

In addition to the unjustified retention of Green, Weatherald and even Labuschagne

Labushagne was dominating the shield competition prior to the Ashes commencing and looked to have been in great touch. I'm honestly not sure who else really deserved a call up to bat in the #3 position.

I've loved the Weatherald selection as he was probably the best opening bat in the shield comp also but he hasn't set the world on fire here and this test could be his last if he doesn't fire in the second innings.

Green..... well.... I almost feel for him how he's continually played when form isn't warranting. Should have been dropped with Renshaw in as the most in form shield player batting at 6.

I'll never understand our real desire to select an all rounder. For the minimal overs they bowl, just roll with Head or Marnus. Furthermore, Starc & Cummins chipping in runs covers the need for an all rounder also.

Got their favourites

The ACB & the Test Selectors should be sacked for incompetence.

Ditto the MFC Board (except Brad Green) & the whole Football Dpt starting from the coach. (Should have happened 12 months earlier).

I thought this was another quiz!

Disappointed.

Why the exception of Brad Green?

He's the common denominator that's overseen the current situation.

I think BG inherited a mess & did a decent job in the circumstances.

He was there when things seemed to be going off the rails, so he didn't inherit it.

He has taken steps to get things on track but it's a bit early to tell if it's a decent job or not.

I hope it is...

Same old, same old.

โ€˜Spinโ€™ is the key wordโ€ฆ CA went without it, while the MFC used it to excuse their poor selections.

Green, HUGE DUD

Weatherald , BIGGER DUD

Laberchagne OVERATED and needs to shut the F up

Webster.... My 4 year old Grandson bowls faster!!

AUSSIE SELECTORS....HEAD IN SAND!!

Neither picked Matt Renshaw and both regret it deeply

Iโ€™m curious as to why no one is bagging George Bailey, being that heโ€™s the Chief Selector. Iโ€™m not saying he should be bagged but it seems on here thatโ€™s the way folks roll (looking at you, Fence).

They forever crave the Richie Benaud, Allan Border, Steve Waugh successor.

They continue to demand the form but cannot get the function.

Travis Head though, what an absolute gun he is

Always nice to see the same people who fire off reactionary takes about footy feel the same way about cricket.

The selectors did a masterful job picking a side who won the Ashes given there was no Hazlewood, almost no Cummins and Lyon was declining then injured. They juggle the guys they do have and found a way to take consistent wickets.

The batting is a problem. Cam Greenโ€™s the only young player whoโ€™s made any kind of consistent runs at first class level, theyโ€™ll stick with him as long as possible. Thereโ€™s some other promising names but the Ashes isnโ€™t the time to blood younger guys.

Yeah the Bangladesh series in August is the one to give some of the younger bats a chance. I'd be picking Renshaw for that too.

Must be doing something right...we win the Ashes series 4 -1 and consistently play off in the test cricket World Cup.

Lets hope our footy club can have similar success.

I don't necessarily agree with all the selections but at the end of the day I'm just another fan with an opinion.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: โ€œIs Melbourne even at the ground?โ€ Moments later, as Carltonโ€™s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demonsโ€™ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.ย
