Yes. Keep well.

I am very sorry to hear about the very sad passing of your dear Mum. My deepest sympathies to you, and your family.

Petty was a better forward than defender in 2025 and I’m not convinced defence is his best spot going forward.

Up forward he would’ve kicked a prorated 34ish goals had he played an entire season in attack, which is quite serviceable.

Meanwhile in defence he played well in round 1 but looked “off” after that. Larkey got a hold of him round 2 and he was a complete liability against Geelong.

Happy for him to reset down back but I’m not convinced as a defender.

Who would you have picked??

Not sure who 'Gator' would have picked but Weddle would be looking pretty good I would think.

Thank you, we're in shock. You can't choose the timing for these things. I never expected this at Christmas.

Sorry to hear this 'Go Ds', there's never a good time but Christmas just seems wrong.

Take good care, thoughts are with you and your family.

White needs to build his body up before he's considered for seniors.

I wonder why Kalani is in Melbourne for 2026.

With a structured training plan and some hands on mentoring from his father he could benefit from another year in the QAFL or whatever it's called. He would be on the MFC list.

I suspect it's just too hard from a liability viewpoint but given that he's 3 year minimum from a senior game what is the hurry to drag him away from family and support etc.

He needs to be within the Club D_J to get the feel or “vibe” of AFL, he needs to build relationships with the playing group, the coaches, physios, dieticians work out in the gym and on track even whilst he is developing his trade at Casey. With Kalani’s pedigree, height and field and track record I would expect him to break into the team sometime in ‘27 at the latest.

McAdam running laps with Reece Conca.

And this is why I’ve decided I no longer want Reece’s job when he’s done. It’s one thing to do so much running during a game but now this???? Running laps around the boundary (and keeping up) with players? Yeah nah [censored] that. I didn’t sign up for that. Well I haven’t signed up for anything per se but it’s well known at the club that I’m next in line for Reece’s position. Richo rubber-stamped it two years ago. Reece himself has endorsed it.

@DeelightfulPlay … I know you’ll be disappointed I’ve decided to give up on my dream job but for someone who doesn’t run unless her life or the life of one of her children is at stake, this running around the boundary caper is a bridge too far.

If he was the type of person that needed family and support, he would have chosen Gold Coast. He chose Melbourne, know it would mean moving and knowing it would be a while before playing AFL seniors.

He's a Dees fanatic, grew up around Maxy and other club legends. He's already capable of playing VFL, he does not need another year in the QLD b-leagues.

Just a question.

Casey or q’land what comp would have the higher standard. (Or age grouping)

I find your constant haranguing of our only living premiership coach a bit ludicrous PF

I actually find the comments accurate.

Goodwin had a generational list & delivered 1 flag. Tigers & Lions with arguably worse lists delivered multiples.

Lions had swags of injuries in 25 but still found a way.

And his coaching was dreadful in 2017, 2019 & 2020.

Biggest underachieving coach in recent history - but we can console ourselves with the learnings........and the lurve .

Is this a serious comment ?

Why would you get drafted to a Club & then not physically turn up & train with teamates, attend meetings, talk to coaches etc & play for the team.

Name any other Club that lets their draftee stay interstate away from the team.

I hope Petty remains as a forward. Aside from 1 good game V GWS, he was really poor in the early 2025 games as a defender.

20 g from 19 games in 2025 and 9 goals from 20 games in 2024 says he sure as hell isn't a forward.

How much evidence do you need?

It’s a bit rough to call our only premiership coach in 50 years an underachiever.

Look Ghosty, it is disappointing... how else am I meant to be introduced to my future husband, Langdon, if you are not the new and improved Reece?!

But since I have a very similar stance on running as you... I guess I can come to terms with this if you think of an alternate way for the matchmaking 😂 (and to overcome the small problem of his delightful current partner lol)

In 2025, four of those 19 games he played in defence, 1 game he was swung forward after half time and the other he was knocked out before half time.

So essentially he only played 14 games as a full time forward for 20 goals. That's on pace for 33 goals over 23 games and he takes the all important contested clunk from time to time.

Not great but I think we're selling him a bit short as a forward.

I actually boast a very good rate of success with matchmaking. True story. But my efforts would be futile if I was to take this one on since you live in Sydney and we all know how long-distance relationships go (just ask Lily Johnson). But…

If you can forget about Ed, how about a Sydney-based player? I have Clarrie’s number; just say the word 😉

Odd perspective. Disagree with your premise that he's "3 year minimum from a senior game", and given he's been on our list all of 2 months you've gone super early.

Watching training on Wednesday, I was impressed by the amount of support and direction the new additions to the squad get from specialist coaches, physios and others to help them maximise their development into AFL ready players. That combined with being immersed in a highly professional squad with leaders like Max, Jack, King, Jones, Rivers (Jared) and the sheer high quality workload these players are exposed to.

Maybe we should have sent a young Max Gawn back to the Sandy Dragons for 2010 and let them develop him given it would take him till halfway through 2011 to debut..?

Weddle and Gruzewski both currently showing a lot more but drafting in hindsight is always easy but the suggestion Goodwin hampered Jefferson’s development is laughable

A better forward than defender??? The metrics suggest otherwise!

Just back from training and I was really impressed by Trelly again. I think he is a different type of player to Kossie. Kossie is the burst type player with, as we know, exceptional X factor and is more a small forward with patches in the midfield. He's the Bobby Hill, Charlie Cameron style of player.

I think Trelly is different, more in the mould of NWM. In the training drill he covers so much ground and is continually running. He will link up time and time again in them. He's very quick and evasive and at this point his skills are just good, not exceptional like Kossie. But he looks like he could play as a line breaker of HB, he could play through the midfield and he can clearly play forward. It will be a really interesting watch over the PS.

The other to continually impress is Jai Culley. He's going to be a very difficult match up because he's a very strong overhead mark for the position he plays. Midfield or wing? Do those positions exist under King the way they did under Goodwin? There really haven't been any match sims in the last few weeks to know as the players for the main have been in about 3 different groups all doing different things. We will start to get a better idea of where

Harry Petty was tracking as a great key defender and was part of a flag at 21. Goodwin and co then decided that we don’t need a genuine forward, instead we can turn Petty into a forward. I’m all for him being our main defender moving forward.
