Having a 10 year coach isn’t a prerequisite in my view and anyway we don’t have King probably until the GF weekend anyway. We would have lost nothing by waiting.

Except that that story just isn’t true. We very well may have to wait til after GF day for King if the cats go through, which is precisely why we could’ve waited for Bucks if we wanted him. We didn’t want him, King was more impressive.

Notice how all the Bucks ummm and ahhing started when he realised he was going to have to do a proper process with an interview and presentation? Couldn’t be that he was hedging his bets and managing his PR in case he lost, especially as he’s never actually done a proper head coach process before, it has to be that we’re incompetent, because media said so!

All those external experts and our new highly qualified CEO and board director and our unanimous board are all fools, they should’ve just waited when they had to wait anyway! What [censored]! These highly informed media people, who got every report about who was leading our process wrong, were clearly so much more right!

[censored], do you even support this club?

Premiership player at Geelong in 2007, Premiership assistant coach at WB in 2016. Knows how to win them, not just chase them

Good chance to be a Premiership assistant this year too 👀

Well well well, and its a River ! Looked in to see some news what a shock, But if you cannot say YES then you really do not want the job. Go Dees

It’s another Neeld appointment, it’ll be a disaster, membership will drop by 10,000, we won’t get to 50,000 next year, it’s just a bad choice

Based on what?

Mean spirited post. Just be grateful it wasn'tBucks appointed

I had come round to Buckley in a big way, but if he wasn’t ready to commit to the club this late into the process then he wasn’t the right choice

Yeh a little funny when the situation is framed in a social setting and you're after a new relationship
Option 1 : Yes I would like to date you 100%
Option 2: I'd consider dating you, but only after I've spoken to someone else about possibly dating them.

At some stage would love to hear the thoughts of the people who were on the panel.

I don’t think anybody on the thread predicted King. On paper, he’s probably the most experienced and had dealings with a lot of successful coaches.

The Hawthorn coaching machine under Clarko produced Beveridge, Hardwick and Simpson.

Let’s hope King is that next premiership coach from the assistant line.

Looking forward to the press conference.

Not only was this not announced by Tom Morris first, the club had both an email and press release ready to go immediately.

Kudos Paul Guerra for sacking the media department and replacing them entirely between the B&F and today!

Tom morris would be spewing he missed out on this being the first to report it.

When I think about it, I want a coach who wants to coach us. And it sounds like King wants to coach us, so all is good. Long live the King!

That happened? I was going to say, why didn't i hear about it... but if you don't have a media department ...

I’d say as applicants are crossed off the list their managers release the “he blew them away” statements” so as to keep their images on the up. In my mind Buckley isn’t and never was the choice. King comes with an impeccable CV. How anyone can be disappointed is beyond me.

Bravo @DutchDemons.

Brings new meaning to ‘write your own story’.

Welcome & good luck Kingy!

I don't understand peoples obsession with wanting a experienced coach. Pretty sure only 1 coach (Malthouse) has one a flag at there second club in the past 20 years.

I am also a curious why people were so sold on Bucks... I have nothing against him, but its not like he's a Paul Roos or Al Clarkson.

We know the Kings name, but what of his Princes !!

Who will they be ??

More surprises await no doubt.

King sounded more committed than Buckley.

Not fussed he's joined us after Geelong finish which is hopefully next week.

In the nrl, coaches a season out sign with another club but still coach there current team

That is like being asked out on a date and the answer is 'not sure, I might get a better offer'!

So pleased the club didn't indulge his arrogance. He was probably a bit surprised we didn't say: 'Ok, Nathan we will wait for your decision'.

I'm liking this new mfc no nonscence stuff!

“Hi guys, Steven king here, just trying to decide if I want this position, I’ll let you know in a month, gotta go Tassie are calling!”

Oh wait that’s the other guy

Buckley also mentioned early on in that he had to consider does he want to give up his cushy media gig and lifestyle. I would think if he had to ask himself that question he was never going to be fully committed.

Congratulations to King, who has done a great apprenticeship under some of the best coaches of the modern era

Hope he can follow the recent trend of guys like McCrae and Kingsley who can come in and make an impact early

Me as well mate.

I was all in for Bucks but the fact he had one eye on Tassie still says to me that he was half committed.

I am very excited for Steven King.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
