Steven May vision sparks fresh controversy for Melbourne

‘That was a really poor look.’

seems that Ch 7 and the ‘journos’ monitor this page!

All the media hacks scan these pages...

“This is after we know that players in June went to the coach and made the point that in a year where it was meant to be all about love and all about looking after each other, they felt that Steven May was not being held to account for some of his behavioural stuff with teammates that they were being held to,” she said.

How many examples have we got under Goodwin of certain players being given a longer leash than others?

Alternatively, why would you keep a guy that's turning 34 before the start of next season, yells at team mates, doesn't perform to the level anymore and has off field problems? Not sure what his salary is but its too much to have him yelling at blokes in the VFL

Agree,see ya later

Low hanging fruit. Also, seems like a pretty casual address; sitting at the back of the room speaking to the backs of the players. If this is what the ‘media’ are reporting on these days, then God [censored] help them.

#tooclosetotheplayers?

Se do not need more second rate players from other clubs. Who cannot get a game at the original club. Sign him up for 3 years I say. Just like the others. One year with a trigger, if he does. Not improve the club. See you later ! Alligator!

Personally I feel a little uncomfortable about the current Maysie pile on taking place. I think with 46 blokes on a list it's always going to be hard to get 100% conformity on everything. Some guys are just wired a little differently and need to be a certain way to get the absolute best out of themselves. Anyway, I'm sure Melky would sort him out if he really was getting out of hand. If he has a year left on his contract let him see it out and retire a Demon.

I'm not good with the trade stuff, but I'd be surprised if we can't get at least a second rounder.

But let's say you're right and the best we can get is a third rounder. In that scenario, assuming we can trade him and don't have to pay part of his salary, it doesn't matter that we extended his contract.

West Coast are crying out for someone to replace Barass and a retired stalwart.

May will be in the oldest dozen players in the AFL by the time next season starts, safe to say any physical issues he has this year will not improve and only continue to get worse. As much as I love what May did in our premiership year it’s clear he is starting to become a liability on field (statistically the worst 1v1 defender in the afl this year) , I think we can move past him next year and not miss a beat. Not even considering his off field issues and personality clashes too.

He was the general of probably the greatest defensive setup in the last 20 years.

Also got an amazing head for the game. Downside of his departure way larger than the upside for a side about to get a new coach.

Going forward I would like petty to be entrenched as a full back. Disco has stamped himself at centre half back. Lever when fit can play a floater 3rd man up intercepter role and tmac is cover/horses for courses.

May is surplus to needs with his greatest asset being his vocal cords and pointing fingers. If a club can see a use for him, I wouldn’t care if it’s virtually for free. A packet of crisps would be fine (late pick upgrade?)

Adams and derksen (and fullarton if still on the list too) as developing options who can break the door down to get in will be ample key defenders for a list. Kailani might spend year one in the vfl down there too.

By the way - I am pretty sure it is Howes May is talking to - not Disco (as Caro thought) or Salem.....

Yep, that was my take also.

I dont understand the hate on May. its everywhere in the media (abeit indirectly). He has said a couple of stupid things, but to me that is his character and i think we need more hard nuts in this team.

His body is really letting him down and i wonder if it is down to bad genes or bad preparation. You just have to watch him move in 2021, 2022. It is night and day different to how he moves now. I think his lacking confidence, fumbles etc is all due to him knowing that he cannot move like he used to.

I think the Dogs would be silly to trade for him - he will retire end of next year and i would even suggest he would not be getting much game time next year.

I done see much hate, but rather an admission that his body no longer does what he (and the club) require from it.

We can no longer rely on the Premiership 🏆 combo of May and Lever - both, sadly seem no longer able to do what is needed in today’s fast pressured game.

I reckon contracted players will have to wait until there is a new coach. Some may want out and be told no by the new coach, and some might want to stay and be given their marching orders anyway.

And I don't think we will delist anyone officially until Casey's campaign is done.

No doubt there will be lots of noise coming out of the meetings tho. There always is.

Maybe that are working through the Casey finals ineligible group and just maybe behind the new secure no leak doors the coach in waiting is there???

There's an interesting narrative forming.

Almost as though some have an agenda .( elsewhere...not dland )

Fascinating time of year.

Storm in a teacup I think. Kero can not help herself to jump on anything remotely down on the Demons.

The only thing against May next year is his age and fitness.

It was 100% Howes. How any journos thought that was Salem is bizarre - they look nothing alike.

It's not like journalists to be sloppy and inaccurate.

Ralphy said last night Dogs will definitely not be after May.

Should we therefore lock him in as joining the kennel?

I posted this when it was clear from the club they want May out

KB was the final straw for Gawn

Am I missing something here?

You'd be forgiven for thinking we're on the verge of getting the next Alex Rance. Derksen has played zero games in three years at GWS.

As l recall a recent post in another thread suggested that young men get an opportunity of an extended adolescence in an AFL Club environment.

GWS is a lost boys home located deep in the heart of the NRL hinterland. If anything of the Paul Roos heritage remains trust the no [censored] policy is still in place.

If Tim Lamb ‘honours’ a squeak of commitment and the Derksen gets on the list. The cull has not come quick or complete enough.

Maybe Roos.

Dogs probably still a chance.

If Silvagni goes to the Dogs, even the Pies might have a nibble, with Howe now suspect and Moore needing help.

If not he plays his last year with us.

Max would be a good get for us, our first choice key forward, but it is very unlikely.

They do have Cadman, Hogan, Brown and Riccardi. I think there might be another kid there as well.

I hope he is on our radar and we at least try. He is contracted to 2026, so this would be the year to do a deal if possible.

I know his dad and in his draft year he was excited about the possibility of us drafting Max. Unfortunately it didn’t happen.

He can take his mate Lever too. Both too slow and fumbly now, both are great at finger pointing and mouthing off to teammates, then next play stuff up themselves.

Both great servants of the club, but time to move on.

Mentioned elsewhere lock in Petty and Turner down back for the next 5 years.

Without Tmac they would be found out in a big way in 2027. Sadly they are not good enough to replace May and Lever. If May and Lever want out I don't see it as impossible. Father time as caught up with May and Lever is injury prone in one of the worst areas " his feet". The problem is we would get 9 tenths of nothing for them. The only positive thing I can see losing them might help is the Salary cap. Both would be on fairly high salaries.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
