Not last touch mate, last disposal. Punches or fumbles out don’t count. And only between the arcs. There’ll still be plenty of boundary throw ins.

It's a stepping stone rather than ripping the bandaid off, i am certain last touch is where we will end up, rightly or wrongly.

But these are the issues a head of strategy specifically needs to deal with, what rule changes are confirmed, what's likely beyond that and making sure our game plan and list are set up with the best chance for success within that.

I would hazard an educated guess that the Saints are comfortable with their huge dollar pursuit of TDK because they can see where that rule is heading and believe they'll get a huge advantage out of it

Dunno the rule they're bringing in is what the AFLW has had for it's entire existence. Think it's worked pretty well.

It won’t be for spoils over the line. So it will diminish midfields slightly that are reliant on clearance but not overly.

Also Max’s superpower is his marking and his workrate, not his tapwork.

Was going to say something along 'rpfc's' line...

It will probably make it easier for Max as he won't have to run as hard to get to boundary throw ins (plus the wrestling) and be able to set up behind the play around the ground. It will make him a bigger pest.

I agree. His best asset is getting ahead of the ball as a marking target or intercept marker so this rule if it were to come in next season will work in his favour. Max's ruck contest win % and hitouts to advantage has been diminishing the last few years and but I feel he's adapted more to the modern game with his work rate, contested marking and hard ball gets/contested possessions

I wish there were split stats for both ball up and throw in ruck contests as I would be interested to see if different rucks excel more at throw ins compared to ball ups.

Its my fear too that the last touch (regardless of possesion) may come in to play at some stage. I do think thats a fair way off and Max will be retired by then. But if we go to last touch it will bring in further video review for confirmation especially if they bring it inside the forward 50. I watch a lot of NBA and the review system for things like last touch out of bounds have ruined the game somewhat. Can you imagine a packed house at the G and we're stopping every 5 mins for an out of bounds touch video review? Lord.

4-6 boundary throw ins a game will be eliminated. not so significant

I was initially concerned about this but the AFL stated the ball only goes out of bounds off a handball or kick 1 - 2 times per game so should have minimal impact on tactics and really just make it easier to officiate the 'insufficient intent' rule. Most stoppages occur when a player takes the ball over the boundary.
