Who Will Be Our Next Coach?

It's so hard to win flags. While a close loss isn't quite the same as a GF win I doubt an ordinary coach gets that close.

Watch them get pumped next week and need to beat us to make top 4. We all know how that story goes. But if the roles were reversed...

If they get pumped next week, they could very well be playing for just a spot in the 8 if all the chips fall the right way. Even if they win next week, I suspect they might still need to beat us top 4.

surely the only way bucks in fav rn is if longmire and daly both turned it down

Maybe they have.

Horse seemed very coy ( and others have expressed the idea he's unlikely to uproot from Sydney...presently )

Daly might prefer life up north and eventually the Lions gig.

All speculation

I’m becoming quite confident that Buckley was always our main target

👍

I listened to this a while back by chance, it made me really appreciate the journey Bucks has been on post Collingwood - would highly recommend.

Out of Simpson, Longmire and Bucks I’ve become reasonably excited at the thought of Bucks coming on board.

Initially, I was all in on horse but have swung around

Buckley has begun assessing potential assistant coaches including some of his former lieutenants at Collingwood to join him at Melbourne.

The Herald Sun understands Buckley has held talks with some of his former right-hand men and football connections in recent days.

Buckley should come in and coach us for the final round to knock the pies out of the 8. Would be like a WWE face turn.

The good thing about having Bucks, maybe Bartel and Smtih as Pres is it really allows Guerra to focus on getting the business sorted. They others can do the footy stuff, he doesn't have to dip his toes in quite as much as Pert or Jackson needed to

Who were they? Had a look at an article in 2015 and it was Rob Harvey, Scott Burns, Lockyer, Rocca and McCrae

Article didn't mention names

Not sure what he has been doing the last few years but Sanderson was his most senior assistant late in the piece I think. I believe they are very close

Fagan never played AFL either. The importance of being a former player is increasingly overstated.

I don’t think that was the main reason I offered for not being keen on him

Would’ve thought he wouldn’t be making those calls if he didn’t have the job.

He ends it with:

"And this is just a personal opinion, but if he were to declare himself available to coach in 2026, then Melbourne would hire him."

Danny Daly is a happy medium between experienced and untried.

Sure he hasn't coached an AFL game, but he's had experience in assistant coaching and administration so he knows how an AFL football club is supposed to be run.

He's also obviously been instrumental in Brisbane's rise to become a perennial top 8 contender for the last 7 seasons, as he and Fagan have been a tremendous duo for that club.

But the thing I like the most about him is his media interviews. He comes across as respectful, knowledgeable, transparent and full of common sense.

This is really compelling.

From memory it was Robert Harvey, Brenton Sanderson, Gary Hocking and Matt Boyd

I like the idea of Buckley becuase he never tasted the success means he will have the extra drive to get there.

Longmire and Simmo have tasted the ultimate, and unless they are complete narcissists (which i dont think they are) will be more likely to rest on their laurels when the going gets tuff, bit like Clarko now (a proven narcissist) and pick up the annual 7 figure salary...

If Buckley has been spoken about the coaching role, he would not be selling himself to the media. Probably more like like he is looking at Tassie longer term.

Looks like Bucks has got it - and probably had it before Goodwin was sacked. Not sure how I feel about it.

Nathan Buckley

It’s a YES from me

Commands respect

Proven record

Driven

Wants that premiership

Has spoken about how to build relationships

Get him and support with guys like Jimmy Bartel and Scott Burns

Hope we get him a petrol card for the drives out to Casey!

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
