Wow. I never loved Simon but never hated him. But I love him for delivering us a drought breaking premiership something I never thought I would see. I wish him all the best for the future.

Still not sure I trust this club making the right decisions going forward.

You've got a future writing rom-com scripts.

doesnt seem like this was well thought out, or a solid mechanical plan is in place .. but generally it was the best thing to do.

i think we need longmire

we still have a great list and lots of young talent and can see quick upside gains.

dont eff this up melbourne

This could be disastrous! It always looks like a club is doing something but a coach sacking can just wallpaper over the cracks. How many coaches did we have between Norm Smith and Simon Goodwin? Statiscally the next coach probably won't win us a flag. Fingers crossed we get a Chris Scott replacing Bomber Thompson. But if not and the player shortcomings persist then suddenly there we are desperately needing the draft picks Tasmania take. (And don't feign surprise if this happens.)

Too often coaches go prematurely.

It's all fine.

It's not like sacking a premiership coach has ever haunted us.

(Right decision or not - the manner/timing in which the call was made)

There is no excuse for leaking. NONE. Do we know for fact that the players didn’t know? I suspect they would have found out last night as well.

According to Morris who broke it, the players were set to be told this morning.

Goody is be a premiership coach at our great club - few - he has a rightful place in our history.

The timing a little confusing - but I guess club want to be proactive for a few reasons

  • player retention

  • player trading (incoming)

  • player trading (outgoing)

  • make sure we get the best coach available in the event that Carlton sack Voss soon.

Goody ultimately has paid the price for his inability to correct some fundamentals that have plagued us for many seasons (goal kicking/inside F50 delivery) and two subpar finishes. I thought he'd have 2026 but I guess the Board still think we have a list capable of doing something in 2026 and thought he wasn't the man to lead us and a fresh voice needed.

It's a real shame it was leaked before players had a chance to hear the news.

I'd say I'd buy Simon a pint but he's got a bit more disposable money than I do now.

Any one going to training. ??? Should be a big of interest from media as well

To lighten the mood a little., did receive a joke text in a group chat that he was sacked for not beating the Eagles by 100 points.

ANNND LONGMIRE it may well be!

With hindsight, maybe a year too late? We could have had Adem Yze step into the role ...

Understand the decision and unlike others I don’t have an issue with the timing, the way it’s been handled seems very poor though.

Overall just feel a bit gutted for him at the min. Always found him very likeable and he will always be premiership coach.

Thanks and good luck Simon with your next chapter in life.

The writing on the wall has been there since the end of 2022. I'd argue the W/L column of 22 - 23 plastered over the cracks; the results are there in 24 - 25 r.e Goodwin.

It is an undignified exit for him though, but it's well and truly past the time to move on from him.

your average AFL journo is pond scum

why is Tom Morris breaking this? Right call but a premiership deserves to be treated respectfully.

Goody wasn't solely to blame for the shambles of the last 2 years. Now that the head coach has departed if things don't improve next season the gun should be aimed squarely at the board.

Every decision could be disastrous. Not making a decision, however, is unforgivable. The club has been festering in more ways than one since the flag, we need and deserve change. President, CEO, senior coach and presumably head of football next. That's a fair old sign of change.

Disrespectful would be not telling him when we had made a decision.

This is it, if it’s done it’s done. Eagles win didn’t change anything, they’d be lucky to win a game in the VFL.

If we’ve decided to move on then do it now, find out who’s available and get cracking on 2026

I think this is the correct decision, I still thought they would not doing it until next year tho.

I think a young coach is the right path but I'd be pushing for Longmire to oversea the football department.

Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with the decision, I think we can ALL agree that what Goodwin has brought to our club was immensely positive and he deserves a huge amount of respect.

The only premiership coach in my lifetime, and probably in many other supporters' too.

I hope the timing is connected to our last home game of the year, and that he at least gets to coach the final match against the Dogs and we can say thanks to him as a supporter base.

I for one will always have great respect for what he achieved and 2021 was the greatest joy of my Melbourne supporting life.

Let’s face it we all wanted him gone & now it’s happened, should’ve happened after the StKilda game.

2021 was awesome but nothing but disappointment since

We left another flag out there with this list

  • AFLW PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
