Goody should be recognised for his wonderful contribution to the footy club and delivering the Premiership in 2021. I think everyone should be respectful of Goody today.

As for the timing, if they had made the decision than go with it. There will be at least 1 other club in the search for a coach and we need to move so we can get our ideal candidate with so many successful coaches on the market .

Thrilled for the future but sad for the past. Thanks, Simon. Always an icon of this club. Just hope the power brokers get the next one right now.

@Demonland

I thought make the decision at the end of the 2025 season. Dees would move to dismiss Goodwin and payout him for 2026.

Terrible timing from the 🤡board 🤡with 3 games to go in the season. Not the way to treat a man who delivered a premiership. A little respect could have been shown.

Thanks Goody for your service and for 2021 🏆

That remains to be seen.

How strong a position will it be if they haven't sorted a strong replacement, or at the least have some serious irons in the fire - not to mention a clear timetable to sort a new coach in a timely fashion.

I mean, how do we go about trading players in and preparing for 2026 if we are still faffing about in November trying to land a coach.

I mean a strong insofar as sacking him so late in the season, but agree with all the points you've made.

Appreciate the premiership and the memories Goody. But this is the right call to make.

Of all people does it have to be broken by that [censored]?

Whoever at the dees is feeding that creep should be ousted from the club immediately.

Unacceptable to allow him to break the news, especially if players and Goodwin's family don't know yet.

It should have come from the club.

Goodwin deserved a dignified exit, not a media shiiit storm

This is truly bizarre timing if it turns out to be true. After the St. Kilda loss there was a scheduled board meeting on the Monday morning, if you were going to do anything wouldn't that have been the time to do it, not wait a week and then after an 83 point win suddenly drop the axe?

Maybe they did but had to sort out contractual obligations. Who knows, to be honest the writing was on the wall.

And forever thanks for 2021. I have held the cup and seen the light. !

How bloody typical the club didn't get ahead of this and show Goody the respect he deserves and make a proper announcement instead of leaking to Tom Morris (whichbis clearly what's happened, ir if they didn't they knew it would come our because they told Goody ladt night and didn't have a presser first thing this morning)

That puff piece by Gleeson the other day was basically a board written background piece and in hindsight laying the ground fir today's strategic leak.

I know there is no easy way to do this but hasn’t the bloke earned a more dignified exit?

Just got the news from LONDON!

THERE ARE NI DIGNIFIED EXITS, Once sacked, yeah well thanks for 21 but since then has been totally Shizzen. Now for the next DYNASTY!

Wrong call. Particularly the timing. Pretty disrespectful to not happen in a more controlled and rational way. He will be remembered as a legend of our club and deserves to go out in a dignified way.

Not after the Saints game, but after we smashed the Eagles?

Why now? Big boy interim president Green trying to be presidential?

So strange. Whether you were on board with sacking Goody or not, with 3 games to go, you reckon you just ride it out and part ways at the end of 2025 - you know, in 3 games' time - which is a respectful way of ending the gig for our first premiership coach in 57 years. I am just not sure what message this sends?? Were we supposed to win by 100+ last week??

This shows the club is a mess behind closed doors.

Yeah I think the writing has been on the wall for a significant period of time, especially externally (ie supporters, sponsors), but I just question how this is the best timing. We have 3 massive games to finish the year, we are already likely to be the underdogs in all of them and this will just add further instability to the playing group to end the year

The learnings from this are telling. Can't even sack a coach without it leaking. Good show old chaps.

Totally agree. He did what i never thought would happen in my lifetime. Hats off to Goody and thanks

Right move but poor timing. Should have been given the decency to coach out the season. Change needed to happen and I applaud the club for being ruthless. Will be fascinating to see who else goes and who replaces them.

Anticipation Popcorn GIF

As usual a messy & poorly handled with interim president & Ceo, only 3 days ago we had Green sending a letter what appeared the support of Goodwin and a week later he’s sacked, agree his time was up but such a crappy look with not the new president or ceo in place, club will need justify the process, I just hope it’s done respectfully and respect that he did win a flag

Has to be done now - gives a chance to get things in place before preseason starts. Otherwise its not together until Christmas at the earliest

Can’t have players potentially wanting out due to the uncertainty surrounding this whole thing.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
