Disco Bounces Back from Tragedy

How Dee bounced back from family tragedy to find his best

Daniel Turner has starred in the Demons' defence this year, just months after tragedy struck his family

A young man that speaks very highly of his club.

There was a video over the pre season where he stated that he'd like to be a leader of the club down the track, and is already trying to act like a leader, so if his football continues to develop could he be a left field contender to be skipper post Gawn??

What will the haters say now? A young gun speaking glowingly of our club does not fit their narrative that we are in shambles and our culture is trash.

Never mind that all our young players say exactly the same thing.

Great article. My favourite quote Re his preference for playing forward or back:

"I love playing both positions, so as long as we're winning games I honestly don't mind where I play," Turner said.

Top attitude, which I really hope is shared by all our players

Gun defender and the long term Lever replacement as our key intercepting defender.

Great story and love his positive attitude towards life and the club.

They always have a preference.

I think there's a difference between the culture of the football team and the culture of the wider club. Our admin has been highly suspect, hence Roffey and Pert going.

Remember when Gawn kicked across the goals late in a game and missed the target? May went to ‘critique’ Max’s effort but was stopped by Turner. He’s a gun. Future/current leader.

Just to note … in reference to “ our terrible club culture”

“Demons list manager Tim Lamb, head of football Alan Richardson and interim chief executive officer David Chippindall all put their holiday plans on hold and made the three-and-a-half-hour trip up over the border to Albury”

Me seeing DISCO and TRAGEDY in the same sentence

But in all seriousness, crappy situation but a good read., Glad the club went above and beyond for him as well. Glad Disco is pumping

… especially since it was his grandmother who gave him the nickname 😂

What is the difference, exactly?

Roffey went because she handled an interview poorly at a critical time. Pert went after quite a few successful years as CEO, but where the team was performing poorly. But what is the difference in culture? I can't see it!

I said something similar recently and it wasn’t received well at all (by the sadsacks, that is).

Not only do our young players say the same thing but (arguably more importantly) so do their parents. For mine this is the most important endorsement, especially with the interstate boys’ parents.

It certainly outweighs anything spoken by those outside the loop looking in. Thanks Ollie and GW.👍💕

You're kidding right? Roffey went because of one interview?

The less said about Pert's off field reign, the better.

Plus we re/sign arguably one of the best young players for 9 years ..says something about our club

Don't know why there's an argument about culture over one players one interview.

Yes, couldn't be happier to have Turner on board and was very nice of Lamb and Richardson.

There's 40ish players and more than 2 staff so forming conclusions off this is a bit of a reach.

If Adams and Howes come in next year as best 22 and May and Lever are still here I wonder if there's room for everyone and if so who plays forward.

Gawn aside, I reckon he is our best contested mark, and he is the stand alone best kick in our team. For sheer steadiness and consistency he is a beacon of hope for me. The fact he loves the club is also a huge tick.

I have a lasting memory of the siren going in the 2021 GF, and he ran onto the field to celebrate with arms and legs flailing like a wounded baby emu. I wondered - who the hell is that? How can he be on our list?

Living proof that after 30 years of abomination, the MFC can seriously develop young players.

There’s no argument about culture here.

It’s simply yet another example (on a long list of examples) that illustrates, despite what the media and opposition clubs want people to believe, we don’t have a toxic culture at our club.

Define successful under Perts tenure as a CEO.

I'll eagerly wait for the response on this.

Great to hear the family is getting back on their feet.

Seems like a great lad, couldn't be happier with his form.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • GAMEDAY: Gold Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons are back at the MCG and have a massive challenge ahead of them as they take on Premiership contender the Gold Coast Suns. What do you want to see from the Dees today?

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
